  1. Sadly Natural England have become all powerful and have taken everything to the extreme, I am all for protecting the flora and fauna but there needs to be a balance. Fred
  2. Sadly its a sign of the times and while we keep on expanding the population it will only get worse, all our cities and many towns are just concrete jungles, look out over London and its suburbs of a night and all you see is a forest of red lights. Fred
  3. Save the world!! ban people save wildlife. Just a thought Fred
  4. Biggest problem these days is to many think they have a right regardless of how it impacts on others, there have been examples on here and elsewhere. Fred
  5. It is the EA not BA who issue the licenses, and there are strict rules and reasoning behind there issuing, I don't have the link to hand but the information is available on Google. Fred
  6. While I fully agree they have been trying to rid the Thames and lower Lea of them since the 1980s to my knowledge along with signal crayfish. Fred
  7. Like everything else in life times change, the majority of pleasure anglers still keep things simple but if as a bank angler you are fishing a venue where changing conditions like tidal waters can call for more than one approach then you don`t travel several miles without the necessary equipment, match anglers in particular cover all eventuality's, I use simple methods but having a boat I can carry plenty of options without having it all out at the same time. Fred
  8. You couldn`t make it up, more twist and turns than a who dun it. Fred
  9. I have turned 38ft there also reversed in or out when not enough room, I have also helped walk less confident helms out, there is always a way, speaking personally I would have kept clear of the anglers but then I always pull down as far as practical to make it easier for anyone arriving later. Fred
  10. While there is no right or wrong here it does demonstrate the lack of thought and consideration towards others and the I will do what I want attitude that has become more prevelant in recent years. It's often remarked on here about the attitude of a minority of Anglers towards boaters, while it is sometimes justified with unacceptable behaviour it is not helped when a little bit of thought from boaters could save a lot of the antagonism, there is or should be room for everyone to get along together whatever their preferences. Fred
  11. Not cheap! I just use the shower head to flush, simple and you control how much water you use. Fred
  12. And at only £2 admission?? As for the leaflets, it wouldn't be because the NSBA are now trying to employ a KC to challenge the tolls and BA accounting by any chance, smells a bit like a child sulking and taking its toys away when it can't have it all its own way. Fred.
  13. All totally unnecessary, boat moors in middle anglers fish either end, he was right in that it was nothing to do with the BA but that dosn`t excuse the behaviour as there is a notice clearly displayed by the car park, maybe a report to the police regarding abusive and threatening behaviour is called for. Fred
  14. They also have two planning applications in. Fred
  15. Agreed but that only applies to people who react responsibly not those that have no disregard. Fred
  16. Any law or legislation is only as good as its enforcement, the amount of drink/drug driving is still significantly high despite strong enforcement, waterborne it is only likely to be enforced after an incident, any change in legislation is highly unlikely to have any impact on those peoples who's behaviour is a major problem when there is very little chance they will be caught. There is the problem now days that to many want to legislate everything in life to the point where we are no longer responsible for or able to make personal choices, as with unrealistic speed limits on the roads for many this leads to legislation fatigue with a disregard for even sensible regulation. Fred
  17. Wise words, I am afraid age and health are beyond our control and we all need to maximise and appreciate what we have, both have caught up with me but I am fortunate enough to still be reasonably active and able especially when I look around and see many a lot younger far worse of than myself, life`s to short for regrets so make the most of what you have. Fred
  18. I agree rain has been a major factor, also we shouldnt disregard the wind factor which again has been far more prevalent the last couple of years, a major factor with tide locking and holding back the flow of ebb tides. Fred
  19. This may be of some help and interest pages 148 - 153. FINAL-Local-Plan-for-the-Broads-May-2019-Appendix-1-ba170519.pdf (broads-authority.gov.uk)
  20. I would think there is no one answer to this, it depends on the contract the marina has negotiated with their supplier of choice, there is also the question of whether they have a pre payment card system that could give you several months use on an earlier price or billed quarterly or more at current price, there is also the question of whether or not there is a standing charge. Fred
  21. My memories only go back 40 years or so but they are somewhat different, I used the Ferry Inn regularly in the !980s and 90s when Malcom was mine host and there was never any charge, the non returnable mooring fee at pubs is very much a recent phenomenon as those that did charge always refunded against food. As for the lost wild moorings I see two main reasons, restrictions came in all over the country with the foot and mouth epidemic much was lost on the Thames as well as the Broads, I would also suggest the behaviour of a minority of boaters was also a factor with litter, noise and general lack of respect, as a farmer I wouldn`t want my livestock put at risk. Fred
  22. There is a world of difference between a private individual who is prepared to make a mooring available and is responsible for the upkeep etc making a charge which is their only benefit and the BA who receive the benefit of tolls income. We should be thankful someone is prepared to make the effort to provide a pleasant mooring available not criticise them for making a reasonable charge. Fred
  23. I didn't find it good when everything started going South. Fred
  24. Living in London I would say my local Post Office only survives from locals selling on ebay etc. With so much on line these days and the cost the old trade in postal services is long gone. Fred
