Moorings At Horning

we are an approved fitter for Nanni diesel and 

fit a fair amount of webasto heaters and side power thrusters from JPC 

we have nice displays from the suppliers for these products,

Thanks Clive ill get something sorted and be in contact.. it would look brill on the commodores upper deck too. Much cheaper than that flexi teak!

Just wondered.....but anyone know how to remove that stuff

and especially that black glue holding it down!

Would much prefer carpet in our cockpit which is what it had

originally before someone thought it looked better with this rubbish!

Hi Bill,

I would try an iron on a small section to see it will melt the glue enough to lift it up. If it works out OK tackle the glue left with scrapers and solutions like Nitromors assuming it is fitted to boards and not fiberglass, or maybe stickystuff remover.

Thanks for those answers. The fake teak is about 6mm thick

so I don't see an iron being any good to loosen the glue.

The fake teak would melt before that happened!

Also Alan, the stuff is stuck directly to the fibreglass floor so

care will be needed when choosing something to dissolve that

black glue stuff.

It's got to come off as Jenny has said she wants carpets down

Can the carpet not be put on top of the fake teak? Just a thought.

Fake teak is just basically thick lino, so if you can free a small corner then use a heat gun on low to soften the adhesive a bit then wait a few seconds before scraping with a broad paper scraper. It will take a long time but will work. It took me 4 hours to lift 2sq yards!

Another way is to sharpen the scraper and GENTLY force the adhesive away then if you are covering with carpet any marks will be covered, but the heat gun method does work. When I lifted the stuck down lino a quick sand then I could stain the floor,

It's now covered in carpet!

Ive not had the pleasure of removing tekdeck I suspect its something we wont as its too expensive. Id say a mixture of clives method and a scaper is the way. I guess it depends if it was laid properly though as it should have grooves like a tile spreader... if not u suspect you will make a right mess. Once you.do get it off.. ive found silicon eater pastes do a good job at dissolving all types of glues.. if it was me id just lau the carpet over and spend more time in the pub ;-)

I don't do bodge jobs! If I do a job it has to be a proper one.

Laying carpet over the Teckdeck is a no-no for me. The 

heat gun method may do it having thought about it but it's

the glue which may be a problem.

When I do sell the boat, I don't want the purchaser saying it

should have been done properly etc.!! I can't live with that thought!

I'm down tomorrow so will have a closer look. Alan's carpet turned

Jenny's head at the Jumble last week. So that's another job for me!!

The adhesive (black stuff) is bitumen based so any left on the deck just heat gun again and carefully scrape away.

I did it on floorboards and they were good enough to sand down then stain.

If you cannot get a corner to lift just use the heat gun to soften the edge.

It is important to wait about 10 seconds after heating to allow the heat to soak in and avoiding burnt hands!

Just incase anyone's still on topic, i hear there are some lovely, beautifully constructed, new mooring in Oby, not really that far from Horning. Apparently opening in may.

No, it's a private dyke, but a very reasonably priced one (or so I'm led to believe) considering the facilies and location.

Not a clue, don't even know if that will be offered. Would make good business sense until the permanent moorings are filled up, and seeing as BAM are currently pulling out the public moorings, it would be a golden opportunity but i really don't know.

I rather think these will be private moorings, similar to the adjacent dyke. The planning permission was granted subject to a 40 metre length of bank being transferred to the BA for visitor moorings. I believe these will be on the main river. No doubt there will be someone who can confirm this, or otherwise of course!

Oby dyke and mill etc is just downstream of the Thurne Mouth and Boundary Farm moorings (or should I say ex-moorings?!).

Oby is not Horning , 

When finished I imagine although reasonably priced the Oby moorings will be much cheaper than most of Horning, some of horning is reasonably priced, will they have finger jetties, lighting, 16amp electricity supplies to each mooring and fresh water supplies, is there vehicular access to any moorings? is the car park far away? are there any on site facilities?

I would imagine that like most things in life, you get what you pay for. The broads has moorings to suit most budgets, the cheaper ones having few facilities, the pricier ones having more.

I'm still looking for one where nubile young virgins drape themselves all over the boat 24/7... Anything to keep that wretched duck poo off the decks.

Ah, thanks for that. Is that correct there'll be some free 24 hour moorings, and will there be public access to Thurbe village by footpath etc?. The reason I ask is I can see with the Lion being totally refurbed and under new ownership, Thurbe dyke will be extremely popular and very busy, more likely even full, so this would make a good alternative, even though you will have a 10 - 15 minute walk.
