Shetland 27

Hi All

Been looking at a Shetland 27 as possible boat which would be basically for use by two of us.

We may have very occasionally very close friends/relations overnight so not a problem that is does not have fully separate berths although there is

a curtain division between forward berth and dinning berth for some privacy.

Does any one have a Shetland 27 who could give some feedback of how they find it?

Or any opinions/pros and cons

Welcome any comments

For what you want the boat for it sounds ideal , far to many insist on separate cabins that are used for very little time , at the end of the day its for 2 /4 not 4 if you see my point , I would however get a survey done , now this might have been a rough boat but iv seen an amazing amount of osmosis on a 3 yr old 27 Shetland in the brundall area , this is not from a photo this is from antifouling it therefore first hand knowledge , not saying in anyway that they are all going to be suffering with the same problem but that one was hence the survey , yes they cost but they are piece of mind too and to my mind essential in the buying process on less the survey is recent .

Other than that good choice I take it you mean inboard diesel though some have outboards ?

Plenty of room for 3 with plenty of seating area ... never had 4 of us stay overnight on it ..lots of storage space ... our son (13) has the under helm sleeper compartment that he calls his own space. Easy boat to handle and control plus with screens down it's only 6ft 6inch air draft.

As a solo helmsman is the canopy easy to raise/lower?

Yes very easy .... the canopy splits in half (unzipps in half ) so you can have just the front part up if you want a bit of sun shade and the back end folds down flat.... however it can all be left up and to get the whole canopy level with the top of the windscreen we just unzipp the front 2 canopy bars and they fold forward thus lowering whole canopy level with top of the screen and the rear canopy bar ( we do this when it's raining and want to get under bridges quickly without to much fuss and worry about airdraft)... whole canopy down is also easy and a one person job.
