Guest
Hi Peeps just to keep you informed Dave and April arived this morning at i think 10am and was nice to see the fella again i will let Dave fill you in on the full story. weather is nice sun is out few clouds and a nice wind hope to get all done and runing so i can take my sister out for a week as shes down in two weeks for one week with her boy friend yet to say yes. but we dint take the boat out from the yard over the last week as we got told this that and the other it could be a number of problms. She dint mind staying in the yard she said better than staying in the house doing nothing wich is true. We was intending to take Curlew up south to meet my uncle and frinds on San Elena and San Evita but things changed. Paul e got a new starter fitted at a cost of £500 and a set of new glow plugs £50 shure Dave wull give you the problem in more detail he knows his stuff
Stranger
hiyas everyone well after arriving at jonnys boat and a quick test of the electric stop solenoid it was obvious that it was not working and not allowing fuel through to the injection pump and injectors properly so lettting it fire up. so a quick test was to remove the solenoid remobe the plunger and spring then replace the solenoid to stop fuel leaking and turn the engine over, if you try this anyone make sure you know where the manual stop lever is so you can stop the engine if it fires up. well the engine burst into life after about 10 seconds of cranking thus proving the fault. The annoying part of this was a local broads boatyard (with a so called good reputation) charging £500 for 3 hours labour and a new starter motor.....daylight robbery more to come.... Antares_9
Well diagnosed Dave, The words clueless, fetid dyke, crumbling quayhead and cowboys spring to mind when I think of most of 'em. Time a bit of professionalism was introduced and I can think of only enough to count on one hand that I would call professional.
Guest
(with a so called good reputation) The yard in question is Bulter marine the tall fella who came down stayed an hour more than he should of done and tried to get her going the price was a little steap as i rang up peachments at Brundall and got a price for £140 but couldnt give me a price on getting it fitted as they were so busy. But £500 for two hours work inc the started EXSPENSIVE!!!!! Dave after you left i tried the other throttle and that dint work either a little pants so when to put it on the other thottle again the same way it came off and just dint work. Guest
aparently it was the bendix and i dont think think they would waste there time with replaceing the bendix easyer to put a new starter on
Stranger
hi flanaguff, apparently there was a starter motor fault on the boat befor the non start situation arose as to where boulter marine was involved fitting a starter motor and new glow plugs eeeek wired through a starter solenoid which i guess is no fault the plan being that a low tension current operates the solenoid allowing the high current to go to the glow plugs to asssist starting, only on testing i found that with the key in preheat position no current reaching the glow plugs so i thought ok ill try a short across the solenoid thus bypassing it to alow the plugs to work the scarey moment being when i did this the engine turned over so im hoping jonny will get boulters back to sort this wiring out the ign switch is a lucas plant type with on, preheat and start positions. also to bypass the electric solenoid on the fuel system jonny is going to fit a stop cable to the injection pump with a strong spring i hope to return it so the engine will run

Guest flanaguff
I see! just that im used to being told it wont start must be the starter motor [this from the wife and daughters now im in trouble sexist!!] But of course if the lump is turning over look elsewhere.Lets hope the prob is cured soon for jonny! Really think for owners an "A" list of fitters would be usefull. B Lucky! Best one, daughter rings up car wont start, ok what happend? went out this morning, did a few trips, put some fuel in 200 yards later is stopped! ok what did you put in it "petrol" really thats clever its a DIESEL. £200 bill to drain system bleed through etc! no Dad didnt pay [anyone know a cheap undertaker?]
