hi peeps

does any one have any sound tips on buying lens cleaner please ?

I bought a sensor cleaning kit from wex for £19.99 and thought

as I squinted to see the vial of cleaner ....

there must be a more sensible way to tackle the next bit ... lense cleaning.

is the answer rubbing alcohol and is it the same as the stuff I saw  in maplins ...

isopropyl alcohol ipa 170

and and and ......... ?

Hi Jill

Never had to do mine yet but I know there is a system made by Lenspen I think for cleaning the sensor......lens pens are really good (the genuine ones) so I would guess the sensor clwaner would be as good.

I don't think you can go far wrong with WEX

I seem to recall there was a product you put on the lens then peeled off, taking with it all the dust and dirt, as for sensors (a far bigger problem in my mind) I have a sensor pen, but even that doesnt always get everything off, a little puffer brush is good, but they tend to redistribute the dust. try not to leave the camera body open any longer than necessary, either change lenses or get the body cap on, prevention in this case is a lot easier than the cure.

to check for dirt on the sensor, take a picture with no lens on - pointed at a pale background, then get the picture up on your computer, you will see any dirt on the sensor. for cleaning I use a sensor pen, a strong light and a magnifying glass, check all the edges and corners particularly.

thanks for the replies

iv had a look on utube and this looks to be a good guide as well.

I just wondered what the fluid was and if its available in a simple

form for cleaning the caps rims and lenses.

hi quo

I will perhaps put some pickies up later to show where ive been.

hi trev

your post loaded while I was messing with mine.

I think I prefer the idea of the puffer rather than chancing getting

propellant on the lens with the air can method and tipping the

camera upside down to blow it out looks good.

if I find out what the cleaning fluid is for certain I will

post it up.

I seem to recall there was a product you put on the lens then peeled off, taking with it all the dust and dirt,  . . . . . . . . .

I've used this and it was more trouble than it was worth.  I reverted to a simple blower brush, moist lens wipes and a micro-fibre lens cloth (mine is from Jessops).

I haven't cleaned the sensor on any of my digital SLRs - too much of a coward and fear of causing costly damage, I think.  My local camera shop offer a cleaning service and I would rather use that.
