  4. Today
  5. That means they will need a full complement of "ships Biscuits" for the hound. :)
  6. Yesterday
  7. It's been blowing quite a hooly this evening. I opened the door to put Suzie out for her last pee and a gust blew it wide open. There is something nice about being in bed on a boat though when you can hear the weather outside.
  8. It's definitely been a windy day. Enjoying reading where you've been and seeing your photos. :)
  9. Yes (I think). There is a calorifier heated by the engine, and a backup immersion heater element running off 240V mains I wouldn't quite say the boat is reliant on 240V, but there certainly isn't enough/any native 12V / 5V (USB) capacity. That is something I need to address over the coming months. The fridge is 12V, but has the 240V-24V converter an extra There is also an inverter, so for now when away from the marina, and with the lack of 240V "in the wild" on the Ouse, I can use mains chargers for any gadgets. I will just need to make sure the battery banks get a recharge from the engine. And on that note, there are 5 batteries in 3 banks - 1 engine/starter, 2 house and 2 for the inverter. That is, until I do a major rewire and combine the house and inverter batteries.
  10. That’s me n Purdey onboard for 1930, four Hrs inc a stop. Heating on, all to the good, she is sparkly clean too, well done JT Griff
  11. £405 sounds about right , 1/12 @ £61.50 and admin costs of £343.50 based on the not inconsiderable staffing levels at Yare House
  12. Just as well The Broads are a National Park then,or the rivers wouldnt be looked after then!!
  13. Today started with my third engineer call out of the week. The heating has been working but cutting out after a random length of time and refusing to come back on until a later time. An engineer attended within half an hour and diagnosed an overheating unit. He tried to swap to a replacement unit but the replacement required a different mounting bracket he didn't have. He offered to let me get on my way and for me to phone later for them to return to wherever which I accepted. First destination was Upton Dyke. I love it down at the Staithe and reckoned on it as a good midday stop and dog walk. Suzie loves the chance to be off the lead and it worked out really well, even if the weather was blowy and inhospitable. I decided on Womack Staithe next and to call the engineer from there. It was raining hard by the time I arrived but I didn't have any issues mooring. I phoned Barnes again and the engineer duly attended with a new bracket and it was soon job done. Despite 3 call outs, all have been for issues that are just bad luck more than anything and the service I've received has been excellent. I think of it as a great benefit of that premium price I pay for repeated hires - I'm paying someone else to look after the boat for me rather than have the stress of doing it myself and that suits me very well. Heater fixed, the lure of The Lion and another pint of gluten-free beer was too much to resist. I had to give in and make the short cruise to Thurne. The river was choppy with the wind and I made the mistake of initially mooring on the main river by the mill. Not only did it need a couple of attempts, I soon realised once I'd tied up that the boat would be bouncing up and down all night. I walked down the dyke to scout out the scarce mooring rings and then moved around a short distance. I'd noticed the wind was blowing in to the mill side so I had no issues repositioning. Not so lucky were the couple on the boat who came in just after. Despite being pinned to the bank by the wind on the mill side, they subsequently struggled to moor the boat on the opposite bank, taking several attempts and much flailing of arms at each other. I chatted to them in the pub later and they'd been trying to avoid using the rhond anchors which would have been necessary on my side. Dinner at The Lion has been lovely as usual.
  14. I certainly had some fun at Thurne with the wind this afternoon.
  15. Paid my £849 last week. The visitor tolls are crazy prices though, surely 1 month should be 1/12 of the annual cost with maybe 10% for admin. Sounds like the BA want to discourage short term visitors.
  16. Any waterborne visitors to the Broads are gonna be getting fleeced at the eye watering visitor toll prices. Added to that GYA port authority charging a £20 transit fee too Griff
  17. Seeing the weather forecast, we didn’t cruise anywhere today either. The dogs enjoyed a walk this morning at Caister-on-Sea and we just hunkered down this afternoon. I just hope the strong winds die down before we visit Boulter’s tomorrow morning!
  18. I presume you have a hot water cylinder? id go for a normal domestic mixer shower, then you won’t be reliant on shore power. your boat seems to be set up to be quite reliant on a 240 v supply . there are no power supplies outside of the marinas on the Ouse. our broom 30 is all geared for basic mooring and it works quite well but one can get a bit paranoid about battery charge levels😆
  19. I have today paid the Blessed Authority £405:00 for a 28 x day visitor toll for 'B.A' It commences on 01st Apr through to 28th Apr when we must pay the balance for the remainder of the year - £333:80. We are supposed to display the visitor toll sticker whilst out on the rivers – We ain’t gonna bother, besides it won’t get to me in the post now until Saturday at the earliest and I’m away shortly from today till Monday then home Griff

  21. You remember our conversation from a few months ago . . . . . you know, when I said ‘you don’t buy a boat, you buy a hole in the water to throw money into.’
  22. I had one on my calypso, I replaced it with a new one as a previous repair had failed. I did the same on Whitey but beware that if you lose flow it is probably due to the feed filter being blocked with chalk. That was an easy fix fortunately.
  23. Everything I've heard about the NDR from people in infrastructure seems to suggest that the Western Link was always planned, but that the council knew they'd never get the cost approved to build it in one go so they split the project into two. The overall cost of doing so (allowing for inflation, analysis etc) is almost certainly going to be more but that's public sector procurement...
