  1. For those wishing to pay their last respects to Hardy Marine's Mark Funnell, who died suddenly on 26th September, there will be a Memorial Service at St Mary's Church Wroxham at 4:00 on Wednesday 10th October (this Wednesday). Casual dress at the request of the family.
  2. And I should also mention that Ferry Marina at Horning now have a similar setup - paid for Wifi across the marina and free in Harry's. Charges (at WRC and HFM) £6 day, £10 short break, £20 week.
  3. The internet and Wifi connections have been significantly upgraded at Waveney River Centre, watch out for a news story on how we did this soon. In the mean time, in addition to our paid-for WiFi service which works across the Park and marina, we also have free WiFi available to customers in the Waveney Inn and Eddie's Café. This is slightly slower than the paid-for service - but it is free. Yours swimmingly Eddie x
  4. Thanks for the nice words Geoff. My team will keep trying their hardest
  5. In the hope of bringing the thread back on topic, I should say how sorry we are to hear this Andy. It doesn't surprise me, now that the BA have brought in their new regulatory framework for small passenger boats. This was entirely unnecessary IMO and has, as predicted, resulted in the loss of a perfectly good service. And plus the tolls are ludicrous when you consider the possible revenue that the service can generate. Unfortunately the Authority appear to feel the need to regulate anything which isn't already regulated, simply on principle - regardless of whether there is any objective need to regulate it. I think this is a very sad day. As you know I am a great fan of ferries.
  6. well yes that would indeed have been jolly amusing. But no - sorry to disappoint
  7. I thought I was a well-informed fish - but honestly marshman I have no idea what you're referring to? Can you give me a clue? The only stuff we dragged back was a couple of canoes, some barrels and some timber. Not much comedy value there I'm afraid...
  8. I would certainly always defend the right of people (and fish) to have an opinion. But if we spout random 'opinions' without any real thought or factual support then we really should expect to have those 'opinions' challenged. I could for example declare that 'in my opinion' and based on my experience as a freshwater fish, there was no world beyond Breydon Water. Sure, I'm entitled to my opinion - but it doesn't change the fact that its based primarily on ignorance and lack of research so I shouldn't be surprised if I'm challenged. If I was to go further and started heaving insulting remarks at people who I've never met and know nothing about, then I think I would expect those people to be cross. And on reflection I really don't think that I do have a 'right' to do that. In my opinion, this crosses the line between 'expressing an opinion' and 'being offensive'. I think there's a consensus that the forum benefits from the input of businesses. It's very easy otherwise to make all kinds of assumptions which before long become accepted fact because nobody has challenged them or put the other side of the story - and there always is another side. But remember that these are privately owned, privately funded businesses; ultimately it is down to the owners of those businesses to make whatever decisions they wish, and those decisions will of course impact the fortunes of the business going forward. Of one thing you can be sure. If businesses develop the idea that sharing their thoughts on a forum will simply result in insults and accusations of stupidity and greed then you can be sure that before long they won't bother posting anything at all. Let's keep the questions coming and the follow-ups civil. Of course, this is only my 'opinion' Eddie x
  9. WOW Daytona - if that is indeed your real name. You are one angry DUDE. We THOUGHT we were going to operate 4 boats on the southern Broads. We decided NOT to. This is BAD for the Broads and GOOD for us? Please explain for a stupid FISH exactly how does THAT work? Tell me Mr Bill, how do you think WRC made MONEY out of this 'business decision'? Please explain the LOGIC behind your OPINION? Don't worry Mr Bill we won't be SEUEING (sic) you. Eddie x
  10. Waveney District Council. Subsidised through Council Tax... Seriously, I would love for you to come and "Talk to the fish". James will even buy you a pint if you like. You two really should talk to each other. Eddie x
  11. Mr Chugger - I said 'best value' not 'cheapest'. If you'd read my post you would have seen that showers are *included* in the price of the mooring. For everyone on the boat. This makes us exceptional value. Water policy is no different to any other marina. WiFi is as good as BT will provide in the wilds of Norfolk (ie it's rubbish and we're sharing less than a meg amongst everyone on site) but we are working on that. Norwich & Yarmouth are Broads Authority-operated which is not a fair comparison, you subsidise these through your tolls, and I believe you'll find that the Council collect the waste - a luxury which is not available to commercial operations which have to pay for their own refuse and recycling collection. Obviously you are entirely at liberty not to use our moorings but passing opinions on facilities which you've clearly not visited in recent years is pretty bad form. Eddie x
  12. Once again, a couple of the recent replies should serve to remind why so few business owners are present on these fora. You ask for information, it's provided, it's followed by rude, ill-informed comments verging on the slanderous. If any of you want to have a face-to-face in person with the 'bosses' then please be our guest. If not then quit with the personal insults. "Good manners and politeness cost nothing" after all. Anyway. I see no reason why any private company should be required to publish the rationale behind its business decisions. Sure, some people will be disappointed. But probably not enough actual customers for it to have been the wrong decision. Either way, it was a business decision, there were sound reasons for it and it wasn't taken lightly. It is likely that at some point there will be a hire fleet at Waveney River Centre. It will be the right hire fleet for Waveney River Centre and their customers, as judged by that business based on the knowledge and experience of the directors and their staff. WRC is a (multi-award winning) destination rather than a traditional boatyard and the operation and composition of any future hire fleet will reflect this fact. For the benefit of my old pal Vetchugger, whomever he may be, our visitor moorings are probably the best value you will find anywhere on the Broads. They are free during the day, and cost £10 overnight which includes use of the heated shower rooms. Waste collection is provided free of charge as are the childrens' play areas and you can even sit on my tail. I'm pretty sure Dick Turpin didn't provide all that kind of stuff. And now, to bed, to dream of fish. Eddie x
  13. Hi all You are correct, I've done an about-fish, the proposed hire fleet at WRC will be running from Ferry Marina in 2012. For information: Rose Emblem - returned as Rose Emblem Lady of the Lake - Sparkling Emblem Princess Royal - Bright Emblem Why? Apparently the bosses looked at our target customer profile, and the type/duration of holiday which they would want to have when starting from WRC, and decided that a different (probably smaller) type of boat would be more appropriate. So off to Ferry Marina with them, whilst we will keep things under review down south. Never fear, developments continue at WRC - the pool is open all winter and there are some big improvements coming to the campsite - including flatter, marked-out pitches, all of them with electric. And a nice new wash up area. And I saw a lot of solar panels going up in November, too. Eddie x
  14. there is indeed a ladder, you just can't see it on the aft photo as it is on the starboard side. there will be prices very shortly... hope you all like it love from Eddie x
  15. Thanks for posting this Brian Just to be clear, this boat was designed & built at Waveney River CEntre but will be in Ferry Marina's hire fleet. We believe that this boat should also go well in the private market and we're taking her to the London Boat Show next month - so you'll have an opportunity of stepping aboard if you're visiting the Show. We'll be in the new Boardwalk area next to Hardy Marine. The fish.
  16. not something we're usually asked to do, but I'm sure we can oblige yes, all the info you request is in the to-do list for the next few weeks. Unfortunately our web developer rather underestimated the scale of the job and although the site still isn't 100% finished we decided to go live with it anyway. eddie
  17. thanks for the positive comments. it's still a bit of a work in progress so expect to see more improvements over the coming weeks. Maybe there'll even be more interior pictures! That is something we're working on this year.
  18. greetings one and all I believe that any week now there should be new websites, both for Ferry Marina and WRC, which I hope you will find to be a significant improvement on the old 'frustrating' ones Radiant Emblem is indeed the front of the Sedan but with an entirely new rear section - not the same as the current sundeck models. Solitaire Emblem also shares the front of the Sedan but has a sliding roof and aft cabin. Jade Emblem is based on an Alpha 36 hull, there are two of these in build. All of the above are in build at either Ferry Marina or Waveney River Centre (where the team also carried out the plug development work on all models). bring on the bookings... Eddie x
  19. I am going to steer clear of the debate on whether boats are BETTER LOOKING or not because I am only a fish and you know how things can look through a fish eye lens. I can read a spreadsheet though and for 2010 I find that, on our new boats, 18% of bookings are for short breaks and 82% are for weeks or longer. Our bigger boats (42ft) are entirely booked for weeks or more. Hope that helps the debate. Eddie x
  20. Glad to know that the new boats are creating some interest, I will let my friends up at Horning know. Hopefully my mate Harry the Heron will be putting in an appearance on the forum soon so watch this space. There are actually two more designs currently in development - a new aft cabin variant with a steering position above, and a 42ft sliding canopy model. Both are being developed at Waveney River Centre, the first aft cabin model is being fitted out as we speak and the mould tool for the sliding canopy version should be finished this week. I will post some artist's impressions when I have them available. The best news is that the new boats are letting exceptionally well, which gives us the confidence to keep building. There are already 8 'Funnell Class' cruisers in the Horning Ferry Marina fleet. TTFN Eddie x
  21. sorry about that pic Lucky you seem to be getting nearly as much stick as I get over on the dark side. you will have to come again and get a better one taken fishy wishes Eddie x
  22. And here you both are look! Thanks for your kind comments Lucky, I'm just sorry you beat me to the front of the queue! Eddie x
  23. Yep, today. I'm going up there for my breakfast in a little while. Things are still getting ready for Easter across the rest of the Park but NIgel & Tracy are all set!
  24. More exciting news from Waveney River Centre - Max the giant Newfoundlandpopped over this week and mentioned that the new Poolside Café will be opening this Friday. Not content with running the ever-popular Waveney Inn, Nigel & Tracy have taken charge of the pool and will be offering cooked breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and heaven knows what else, all season. Hash browns have even been mentioned (my favourite) so I'll be flapping my way up there on Friday morning at 8:30 sharp. Rumour has it that there will be pool entertainment including an inflatable hour and other fun stuff during the school holidays. I'm lovin' it. Eddie x
  25. HI Brian Any problems, just ask. I run a couple of Mac networks, Exchange support is built in to latest OS so you should be fine. Have fun James
