If solo mooring then have the bow rope running nearly all the way down to the stern... you can then step off with both ropes in hand. (In a forward control boat such as our Alpha 35). Instruct crew in which direction to move the bow-thruster controller if you are lucky enough to have a bow-thruster!

What a wonderous tale you do tell, Jon! :clap

A Morning Cruise (PART 2)

It certainly was a pretty windy old 24 hours, wasn't it? We passed you at Somerleyton at about 06.45 and there weren't too many peeps about! -

A Hearty Welcome aboard, Peter. She was also nicely moored at OBYS with the tool-box open on the cockpit table! -
Some pics while up the coast today.

I am both envious and reminded of the great times we used to have flying down yon lochs and around/over the mountains, Iain! -
A Morning Cruise (PART 2)
Hockham Admiral replied to Hockham Admiral's topic in Holiday Tales & Blogs
Our return journey to Brundall started at 06.00 last Wednesday morning. I wanted to make Low Water slack at Reedham at 08.00 and gave myself about 15 minutes spare in case I stopped off for pics or a cuppa. As we departed Oulton I looked back to see a rather pretty sunrise: It was beautifully tranquil heading down Oulton Dyke: And the reflections on the mirror surface were lovely to see: A bit further on, just before Somerleyton, one of my earlier questions was answered.. here's what "John Fox" was doing with the dredgings! Somerleyton Bridge looked its horrible self (Take note, please, Railtrack!): While the moorings looked as though a few more might have squeezed in: Friday Girl will keep a pretty constant course when it's as calm as it was at 7am that morning and I was able to go back and stand on the stern to take these two pics near the Herringfleet Mill: A little later we disturbed this flock! And met the first boat we'd seen travelling on the water towards us: Reedham was pretty full and there was smoke coming from The Nelson's chimney. All the curtains were drawn as well, so is it open again? Finally, just past The Ferry, a pic for the yotties, (the bigger one is for sale), myself included: And so back to Bells marina, mooring up at 09.40, after another beautiful morning's cruise! (And yes, Pollyfin, to put the kettle on to wake Mary-Jane with a cuppa!) -
Moored on the outside, close to The Wherry, at Oulton last weekend I had fair reception from the 'Wherry Guest' wi-fi. They then moored a Pedro steel boat betwixt Friday Girl and The Wherry but I just logged onto The Commodore's wi-fi, which had much better speed! :clap

It's probably the reason he was pick(l)ed, Maurice.... I like pickles with anything! ( I wish you every success with your purchase. Our local was advertised by Punch over a year ago at £290 + VAT and I know it was bought for under £200 INC VAT!)

Or a shackle knife on a lanyard, Peter?

Welcome aboard from us too, Mark. When, in October, are you coming? You've certainly come to the right place for information!

Home now, peeps. Yes it was 06.00 on the dot when we departed OBYS... and arrived back in Brundall at 09.40. Again it was a magical first two hours.. I've got lots and lots of pics to download asap but so much has piled up while we've been away for the week or so that it's going to be tomorrow before I can do it. Peter, fascinating stuff and we have a lot in common... I'm not going to explain that here! :naughty: June, I did come and look around late last night but I think I was looking for the wrong boat! :bow (I've just noticed a number on my avatar!)
-
Just back online when I picked this thread up 15 mins ago, June. I'm now back from looking for your boat here at the Yacht Station but couldn't find you.
-
Keith, I don't know if you've met Mark & Sue but they are only young folk... 'little naps' don't come into their vocabulary!

Hey, Timbo, that's cheap here in Norfolk! (We don't have too many JDW's 'out in the sticks')
-
Another way to help them is to volunteer to empty their collection boxes in nearby pubs. Mary-jane does this in our part of Norfolk.

BT hike prices from December 2014
Hockham Admiral replied to ranworthbreeze's topic in The Broadscot Lounge
Hear, hear! Despite my ability (learned over many years of VHF/HF communications with them) to usually understand foreign accents I just can't pick up all of BT's foreign customer support teams' explanations. This is not jingoism but I usually ask to be connected to a rep in the UK, which they will do immediately. I too had Tiscali 'out in the sticks' and their service was even worse than BT's. My download speed was frequently below 1Mbps and with BT it's usually around 6Mbps... -
Sounds like a great place for a special meal and I'd entirely agree with what Hylander and Neil say about the TA reviews. I thought I was missing something when I first read through the posts because I've not heard of them in St Olaves before... When I Googled them I had thought that we might walk there from the moorings but I found this: "via Beccles Rd/A143 1 h 9 min 3.5 miles" Their address should perhaps be "Bradwell"! Anyways, we've marked them down for a visit when we're next anywhere nearby in the car.
-
Thanks, Peter! We did try to get him onboard for a bevvy of some sort.... perhaps today, Peter? (We'll be in Broadview at lunchtime; their Little Sharpie, at £3.20, suits my taste quite well!).

A Morning Cruise (PART 2)
Hockham Admiral replied to Hockham Admiral's topic in Holiday Tales & Blogs
Simon, Hi. It seems a waste of a day to just sit around all morning when: a) I can enjoy the cruise to Beccles at the best time of day, and We get to Beccles for a lunchtime pint! I rest my case! -
What a lovely first post, SWMBO. Welcome aboard from us. May we know your name, please?
