  1. They don't all have one! We have two loos aboard Friday Girl and one has the spring and the other doesn't. One of ours stopped working a month ago so I bought a complete service kit from Peachments in Brundall, about £24, I recollect. Taking it apart and servicing it took about an hour or so and it now works perfectly.
  2. Thanks for that, Grant. I was unaware of exactly how it worked. Unfortunately, when I connected it all up, the led flashed repeatedly for a few seconds when I reset the potentiometer and then went out... sounds terminal and it doesn't work... where did I go wrong? I discount soldering errors as my hobby is Amateur Radio and I've been wielding an iron for 50 years or more. What I did do was to turn the potentiometer with a small electrical screwdriver, as I don't have room for the plastic control. Might I have shorted something? Any suggestions welcome, preferably not rude, before I get another kit...
  3. One more thing, I may modify this further by separating the peltier & the fan, but this is something i will do later. Que?
  4. I took the whole lot down to the Hockham Eagle tonight, more in hope than expectation!!! One of our regulars owns a firm who make test gear for Martin Baker (Ejection Seats). "How do I do this, Chris?" "You can tell the polarity by the length of the wires" he said........ you can, it's fixed!
  5. Unfortunately my LED is uniform in shape.. even under my powerful magnifying glass!!! I'm going to have to power up the PCB and stick the LED in one way or the other and see which way works.. just hope it won't bugger it up....
  6. According to the info sheet you must solder the LED with its cathode to negative but there's no indication which lead is the cathode..........
  7. I've soldered the PCB this morning and would say it needs a bit of experience and a suitable soldering iron (mines an Antex Precision 15W). What I can't fathom is which way to solder the LED, I can't see any way to differentiate which way it goes. Can you help, please?
  8. Trevor, Hi.... What ever next???
  9. Simon, HI That sounds like an absolute rip-off. What a load of cobblers!
  10. It must be nigh-on heartbreaking (well it would be to me!) to think that something as beautiful as that will no doubt come home bashed in the not too distant future............... But I suppose that's one of the joys of a boatyard owner?
  11. Grant, Hi I've been looking at my cool box (2years old) and the lid's different to yours so I'll have to put the unit in a small plastic box and araldite it to the lid. Yes, I did, didn't I?
  12. Biggles, Hi Peachment at Brundall do all Jabsco spares. 01603 714077 and open Sats 9am - 1pm.
  13. Hi again. back from the pub.. hic!!! If you're picking up at Richardsons and ask them nicely I'm sure you might get away a bit earlier (as Senator says)... so I don't think darkness will be a problem as it's BST then ( It's nearer 7.30pm for darkness). With the tide with you you wont take any longer take the 3.15 hrs as Martin says. Good Luck
  14. OK, I've just looked at the tides for the the week Sat 24th and Gt Yarmouth slack water time (when the tide changes direction) is 3pm on Sat and 4pm on Sunday. It will take you about 4.5 hours or so to reach Gt Yarmouth and as you will be on Neap (less strong) tides it will be the easiest time to arrive there. If you can't leave Stalham in time then the Acle Bridge pub is a great place to overnight with good food and a choice of beers! It's also FREE to NBN members.. just tell them when you arrive! (Will be worth a phone call to book a table on Sat night). If you let me know how that sounds and how long you want in Gt Yarmouth I'll suggest further!
  15. Velleman thermostat now £4.65!!! (At Rapid Electronics). As I'm only16 miles from them at present I'm having one!
  16. Do you have the dates and how old are the children? (Then we can offer suggestions).
  17. When you let us know where you're hiring from it will be easier to give you advice. A yard in Wroxham may suggest that you head for Norwich and then Oulton Broad before coming back (Yes, in one week!). You will certainly use a heck of a lot of diesel if you do that! Using just the Northern Broads for a week you will have far less bother with tides and still have lots of interesting places to visit. That would be my advice given your circumstances in September! Matt's advice is also good; there's a heck of a lot of difference in prices charged.
  18. David, Hi Good idea! Any thoughts on how much one might cost?
  19. And getting slightly off topic I think hirers (or anyone else who worries about the cost of fuel) should print off a week's (or fortnight's) copy of the tide tables before they set off! http://www.norfolk-broads.org/tides/bro ... 0#tidegrid The difference in going with or against the tides (especially at Spring Tides) can increase fuel consumption significantly. Simply: If you want to travel at 6mph over the ground then with a 2mph tide behind you you'll only need to set revs for 4mph With a 2mph tide against you you'll need to set revs for 8mph That will more than likely double your fuel consumption!!! Yes, I know, you don't often get 2mph currents on the Northern Broads but you certainly can around Gt Yarmouth, across Breydon and up the Yare! We're not usually in a hurry and I try to use the tides with us and tend to set 1400rpm and accept what I get in boat-speed!
  20. Ken, Hi First point is correct. If you've only used £50 of fuel when they top you up then you get £50 back. Secondly you don't say for how long they had the diesel heating on for, that can easily use up to 10L/day in a big boat if you have it on high and 24/7. If you're that concerned about "stick measurement" then ask to see where the dipstick measures up to before you go out! You won't be very popular but you'll probably be happier!
  21. Welcome aboard! I agree with Jonzo and would add the proviso that I'd spend as much as I could afford on a decent 4-stroke outboard. 10hp should be enough if you intend to keep to the speed limits! Good Luck!
  22. That's brill, Grant! We have a Halfords cool box lying around but stopped using it for probably the same reasons you modified yours: 1. It will freeze the contents if the ambient temp is low! 2. It uses about 5amps which can soon flatten a battery! Many Thanks from me for the cool beers and Mary-Jane for some fridge space!
  23. Lori, Hi Thanks for that, I'll try it now. ps. Are you coming to the Spring Meet?
