  1. these beautiful boats being rowed up The Yare today. stunning!!
  2. The wife allways complains that the ranger at Reedham never helps us......reason? we should know what we are doing! Must admit there is one guy there who is bad tempered and grumpy, but that dosn,t stop him doing a good job.
  3. Off on a tangent from this ,on the way back from Barydon to st olaves , Wendesday we came across a hire boat(no names no pipedrill!) disabled 400m around the corner from the public moorings, mud weight down , asked if they were ok they indicated yes, waiting for help, the help came in the form of Spirit of Braydon, as we found out , as all of sudden there was a very loud voice on said boats pa that they were intending to moor against a hire boat on the full public mooring at st olaves, the poor people were enjoying there lunch complete with beer and wine ect....but fair play to them , they helped in anyway they could , doning life jackets and following the very clear instructions from Spirit of braydens skipper, who moored up beside them making a tripple mooring. All boats were moved up to get the stricken vessel in , a very slick operation and a credit to everyone , well done BA crew......job well done.
  4. The moorings at the Bell st olaves are currently full, with one hire boat very near the bridge, looks like a club meet, as most boat s are i think Normans.

  10. yes.....same as you did it, only engine in reverse, with the stern quarter protected, wheel right hand down
  11. i think you would have to make an enquiry about the path from the public moorings to the mill, depends how old the signs are , if before the crow act they may be out of date, ie The river continues through Herringfleet Marshes. The marshes stretch from here to St Olaves and are overlooked by Herringfleet Hills, part of the Somerleyton Estate. Recently the hills have been classed as open country as defined under the CRoW Act. Together with the Broads Authority the estate has opened up the area to walkers and provided a car park and way marked paths leading to Herringfleet Smock Mill.
  12. Forgot to add for the pub ,your better off keeping off the b1074, it s deadly, in the day and very dark at night!
  13. Location TM 465 977OS Sheet 134About 5 miles NW of Lowestoft. Access by footpath only from B1074 between St Olaves and Somerleyton (about 1/2 mile). Small car park beside B1074. from the moorings walk along the river to the mill then upto the carpark, near ponds farm ,walk on the embankment no probs, The mill itself has sail stock problems as here that,s why it,s arms are missing https://www.nationalmillsweekend.co.uk/pages_wind/herringfleet.htm

  17. Welcome to the forum, see you got my boat in your picture! tide at st olaves can be a tad more than 2 ft thou.you will be fine next door boats ropes will go slack also at high tide so the gap inbetween should stay the same.
