  1. I have windows 10 on the laptop. grrrrrrr!! It decided to upgrade itself over the weekend. I was using it and when finished, went to shut down as normal but got “shut down and upgrade” there were no other options. I couldn’t shut it down any other way. So thought “what the hell” and went for it. It finally shut down about 30mins after so I closed the lid and went about my business. Monday was in a hurry wanted to check emails started it up and “commencing update 20% done”. 50 chuffin minutes later it was ready to use. So what part of “shutdown and update” at the weekend didn’t the laptop understand? Anyway before, I’d press on the icons I wanted and surf through my stuff. Now I turn it on and can go make a cup of splosh while I wait. Then have toast etc in between each press of the button. Ok. It’s not used for business so can wait a while but I’ve lost everything I had stored on there as well. ( insert sad angry face here) why are you not given the option?

  2. 35 years ago I was called to put a new roof on one of several square chalets that were there. It’s correct it was where the boatyard is now and I believe their office is one of the old chalets. Have no recollection of an eatery though.

  3. I ordered a sheet of walnut laminate to make a new dashboard. It came in a sheet 10’ x 5’. Cut mine with a grinderette. Went through like butter. Can even do slight curves with it. Then a hole saw for the dials. Job was a goodn. Meanwhile 12 yrs ago I rearranged the layout in my boat and built a new toilet/ shower with 1” blockboard then lined the inside in a sheet vinyl (flooring)with spray glue. Still good to this day.

  4. There is a good and easy to understand explanation here:
    https://www.selectsolar.co.uk/cat/202/guide-to-inverters
From personal experience,  we used to have a modified sine wave inverter on Moonlight Shadow.  When we were on board for one of our weeks, we suffered failure of about four phone chargers and a television.  We later found out that it was the inverter causing the problem and after other syndicate members had similar issues, it was changed for a pure sine wave device.

Thanks for those replies. We had a remote switched Sterling pure sine wave for about 10 or 12 years. We ran vacuum cleaner, hair drier and telly etc no probs. But just popped it’s clogs last week. On further inspection it revealed internal moisture damage. So looking for another but not wishing to spend that amount again.

  5. Could somebody please explain the difference in idiot speak between “pure, modified and quasi” when it relates to sine wave inverters. Ta very much. (No jokes about the hunchback please)

  6. Surely when we have JCB’s with long reach arms that can chew up an average building and car crushers that can turn a transit into a 3’ cube surely there could be something made to dispose of the boats? I’ll bet when they’ve chewed up a few there’ll be companies chomping at the bit for the mountains of granules left. Mixed with concrete? Fashioned into bricks with some amalgam? It just needs somebody with the time place and money to set up the business because it’s not just boats it’s cars and fairground rides spring to mind as well.

  7. Are there many people who are not paying their toll yet? The hire companies had some letoff I hear. Was there a way of paying for nine instead of twelve months this year? We were moored at St. Olaves last week and used the BA toll checker and seven out of ten were not rolled. Was that intentional do you think?

  8. This is headline of the latest hoo-ha in the EDP this evening, where Broadsbeat are reported as saying that they have had a lot of complaints about speeding in Thorpe which detract them (sic) from their normal duties.
They don't say who these young men are but I suppose the implication is that they are on day boats.
CCTV footage has apparently been supplied by the Rushcutters pub.  A pity (for them) that they seem keen to select their potential customers, in these hard times.
Or is this perhaps more ammunition for the Norwich City Council (who claim, spuriously, to own the river Yare) to ban everything from the navigation that doesn't have to be rowed, or paddled?
I just offer my own photographic evidence, from 1955, that speeding in Thorpe is nothing new!

Doesn’t that picture look like a lid from a jigsaw or chocolate box. Aaaaaaah the good old days.

  10. why in a marina with stern mooring do you pay for the length of the boat ,not the width eg, 30ft boat takes up 10 ft of mooring

The bigger the boat, they think the more money you’ve got. Then the cogs start to whirl “we’ll have some of that”

  11. I’m in the middle of renovating an apartment on Gorleston seafront for my daughter. This past couple of weeks the beach has been chocker as has the promenade and gardens. Just quarter of a mile away is the main A&E hospital ( James Paget) who yesterday said their virus related cases are on the up again. Coincidence?

  12. You would also need a very low air draft as Haven bridge needs about six months notice to open. It’s apparently having £1.2million spent on it soon so no doubt it’ll be closed for a long period
