  1. I knew you'd say that! Talk about ice rink!
  2. The dinghy needs a new cover, so I have bought some nice waterproof fabric from eBay, made a mini mast to create a bit of height under the new cover and got to work. It's good to invest in the coming season.
  3. One further point, wooden quay headings can be awfully slippery after rain, so even when stepping off, care is needed.
  4. Yes, Happy Mothers' Day. Mine started on Friday, I met my daughter and small grandson in London for a foray to the London Transport Museum, lovely.
  5. Ah yes, Danny, I remember it well. . Have you and Alison found a 'parking space' yet btw? If you really are interested in my suggestion, Phill says to tell you he thinks it will have a short shelf life. JM if I saw a drifting boat at 2 in the morning, I'd take more than a passing interest and if I got no answer to a hail or two, might call the services. Reading the subtext of this article, there was a fair bit of irritation about this shout. I wonder, just wonder you know, if the skipper had been at that famous hostelry?
  6. Yep we try to do it the MM way, I never jump, I could, but I won't . It was an early lesson in boating when 'the bank' turned out to be an overhang complete with brambles. I ended up to my ankles in mud and up to my bum in brambles.
  7. Brilliant is posh, she has an induction hob hidden away for when we are on shore power, but the oven is bust (being fixed though £££) and I wish I had stayed with two burners and Origo you know where you are with meths! Are we posh? Errrrrrr? Don't think so!
  8. I thought it was pretty dire Fiona's memory was of the haziest and her delivery irritating, just my opinion and apologies to Fiona fans! The programme lacked focus. Craig's database has Jenny Wren as no longer registered in, I think 2013, so she must have been ashore for restoration?
  9. If anything was going to kill the Broads, the 1970s would have done it. Most folks do use their commonsense.
  10. Nope Brilliant isn't coming, on this one.

    Advice

Hi Sarah, welcome. Ranworth has a nice big green for ball games etc, right next to the mooring; there is a floating wildlife centre well worth going to and the climb up the church tower gives you spectacular views. Salhouse is good for children too with plenty of play space from a sloping beach, there is canoe hire there too. Likewise there is a lot of run about area at Sutton Staithe, a great traditional pub with games room and very good food, the Sutton Staithe Hotel is right by the mooring. Easter will be fairly busy so aim to be moored up by about 4pm would be my suggestion as spaces may be in demand. A don't worry too much about mooring go slowly using short bursts of power rather than lots of it. People will help. LIFEJACKETS for everyone when out of the cockpit on deck or on shore near the water will be a very good family policy.
  12. Enjoy!

    Tolls

I wish you'd warned us before Iain, I've opened ours now!
  14. Get sails and a quant pole, as you know even outboards are not really needed!
  15. Last time I used East Croydon, I found that taxis were as rare as hens teeth.
  16. Lol nope . I celebrated 'retirement' with a holiday in September in Tuscany oh joy after years of higher prices on every holiday. I still try to sail the second week in September 'because we can'.
  17. Ok I do work sometimes! I was on the train to Croydon at 5.45 am the other day, and not back until 5.45 pm; but usually my guilty pleasure is hearing the school run going on outside and knowing I can stay in bed. As a former teacher, that has to be a favourite sound!
  18. Jonzo, the BA would probably provide a supply for burgee bundling. Peter, the title of the thread was a Freudian slip The article said that 8pm to 8 am were key times but that running the engine at any time was an offence, (when not under way, Peter!)
  19. I think NBSA are getting the tags for members too.
  20. I really welcome the news in our BA newsletter that engine running is being highlighted as antisocial and contravening the byelaws. There will be posters at moorings and the boatyard keys will hopefully carry a fob with 'Wear it' in one side and a message re engine running on the other. Last time we were at Salhouse I had fears for our health and safety on the score of the boat next door running with a hot exhaust next to our cockpit awning. We had fumes coming in, so being British, we moaned and did nothing for some time, then I got really spooked and was about to approach them when they cut the engine and we could literally breathe easily again! (The carbon monoxide alarm stayed silent so I was hoping it was right!) Classic sailies have a very low freeboard so are vulnerable to this kind of thing.
  21. Amazing! And I have trouble filling one wine rack!
  22. Well it used to be, when Phill was doing his postgrad. for example they had a lift that was like an open boxes upward conveyor belt, called a Paternoster; to get aboard was a leap of faith apparently. However, it's amazingly glossy and smart these days.
