1. David,

I am SO sorry to hear of your disgraceful treatment, horrendous experience, and fully appreciate your rawness. Thank God you are all physically OK, though fears take their own time to heal.

It has to be said, and no doubt I will stir up a hornets nest, but hey ho. We have met many a hirer who sadly report inadequate hand over. I think it is totally disgraceful that you 1 had to ask, and 2 were left feeling, by the sound of things, short changed, in terms of training. At very least, feeling apprehensive breeds fear, tension and then worry. How dare they leave a customer in that situation!

Where is the rally to get whatever company involved to pull their socks up, give their customers what they deserve, or take their shoddy service to somewhere people are not going to be endangered by their neglect!!

AND, following their customers worst nightmare......."what did you hit" beggars belief!! Hells Bells!!

Sadly, it has previously seemed that whenever the subject of shoddy hand over was broached, the poster was berated. One customer left in this predicament is too many. Yes I'm sure there are some who take pride in customer service, but we have experienced tales from many who have experienced inadequate tuition. Are there no regulations?

David I am so sorry you and your family have suffered such an horrendous experience, but I would say one thing-do come back and have another go, use your experience to leave the company you may choose in no doubt that you want quality service, tuition to your satisfaction, and a complete assurance that should you encounter a problem, there is a number where help can be reached 24/7. Put your requirements in writing.

And before anyone jumps on me, no it won't stop idiots, hirers or owners, accidents happen, we all misjudge things now and then, but this is in a class of its own-but sadly not entirely unheard of!

Best wishes to you and your family David

  2. I'm sorry Perry that it didn't go well. When you drilled that hole in my head you apparently missed my brain by 6 feet!

    :lol::lol:

No he didn't miss!! It's about 6 feet south for you men isn't it? :party2::party2: Now was it Phalangus major or Phalangus minor??? Thats the question!!

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

  3. I am off to have a crack at some brain surgery tomorrow just to gain a bit of experience you understand, not done any studying, training or been mentored but will just learn as I go

Well, having been studying in the NHS, seeing one young doctor one friday administering ECT to a Mental Health service user, and then as THE obstetric SHO on the monday.........and making decisions-yes there would be a registrar on call, but obstetrics can change minute to minute, it was rather disconcerting-being expected to trust the guys judgement, yes he had years of training, but absolutely no experience of obstetrics until that day!

I spend weeks in a classroom, training, even in a state of the art virtual auditorium, but the real deal can and often is incredibly different.

Why is it that after weeks boating followed by much less over the winter months, when it comes to simple things such as mooring up, I feel like a total numpty, often messing up-misjudging posts-you name it!

I dont think you can devalue experience-I know the theory, training, call it what you like is vital, but its quite scary how quickly we can deskill without maintaining the level of experience to do a job to the level needed.

Men know how to walk, one foot in front of the other stylie, (generally speaking) but put most of them in a pair of heels and the theory goes out of the window :lol:

  4. .............I thought the word was realistic!!

I think the question is, one of safety and obligation. Im sure some would happily give instruction for the sheer pleasure of it and love of the Broads. If it is indeed low wages that are affecting standards then surely that has to be addressed.

As for the "five" minutes, that was on the water time David, there was a few of us watching, jaws dropped.

Its easy enough to say "don't sign the acceptance ticket" but if its been five minutes for a first time hirer in a relatively quiet area, they may well be experiencing a false sense of security. More to the point, they shouldn't be offered the "acceptance ticket" to sign after just five minutes surely?

  5. Hi all,

As some of you know I took part, along with two special friends, in the Race for Life in May this year. Gav was chasing goats and I had big decisions to make career wise..........That day planted a seed, the friends, people, inspirational stories.......I am now lucky enough to be studying for an Honours degree in Radiotherapy and Oncology. We have only 10 places in the country offering such a course each with very limited places, but what has really warms me is the passion and support of the academic and clinical staff. They are passionate about what they do, and see huge progression ahead for cancer treatments. I was also pleased to find out about the amazing technology we have in out all too often slated NHS. We have some of the most up to date and advanced equipment where I am, one of only 2 units in the country at the mo.

Id just like to say once again "Thank-you" to all those who sponsored me..............the whole experience has changed a large part of my life, and although im sure it wont always be easy, I will have the privelege to help make a difference every day.

    So glad i did it.

  6. Having seen a dog in distress and being involved in the subsequent rescue along with other familiar posters on here, a dog without a life jacket gives me goose bumps. The owner was a non swimmer, no life jacket himself who was helplessly watching his beloved dog getting into ever increasing difficulty and which would without doubt ended up drowning. The chap was completely beside himself when Claire,(who had jumped in with her wetsuit and buoyancy aid on) handed him his dog back.......and was off to get both himself and his beloved dog one immediately.

  7. :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

 oh dear g&a ive only just stopped laughing , if was you i'd take another look at the pic i posted, the white bear on the end is a soft one, you can tell just by looking, & the others are hard ones & NOT to be played with, just shows how much you know about steiff bears lmao.:lol: lori

Are they growlers too? I keep mine in a cabinet cos they're not quite hard enough to fend off 3 Cocker Spaniels, growlers or not!!

Ive got a few, along with a mean looking rare Deans and a very limited golden nosed Gund, that ones very firm. Neither growl. :)

Im assuming the refuse lads may be a little wise, and guess it was a rather unruly lesser felt Paddington variety, though, IMHO, I'd have thought a Womble would be quite appropriate? ;)

  8. :wave hi littleboat, are you sure it's a steiff bear, even old tatty bears are still worth alot of money,if it was a steiff bear, did it look like any of these bears ? & was it a soft or hard bear ? lori

Forgive me, I dont know about anyone else, but i did have a rather disturbing image of Gav squatting in front of the bin waggon, bewildered driver yelling "what you doin mate?" and a reply of "just poking it to see if its soft or hard" potentially resulting in........

    Gav squashed,

    Gav beaten up,

Gav pounced upon by men in white coats.....or

    Gav arrested!!

    .......or i guess any combination!!

I think we will have to assume it was just well weathered!!

  9. ill be fishing most of the broads

    at my upcoming holiday

    only after smaller fish realy

up to say 3lb would say size 10 to 14

    hooks be sufficent....float fishing

and what type of fish can i expect :Stinky

Well, I guess there won't be any sign of Nemo or Dory, and hopefully no Bruce types!!

Sorry, couldnt resist nibbling on that one!!:lol::naughty::naughty:

  10. I would say get a dog.......or as in our case, 3!!

Do you have a garden fence?........smear the top with very hot mustard!!

There are some green jelly crystals you can get from pet stores, puncture the top of the plastic lid and sprinkle-supposed to be a deterrent, they certainly deterred the dogs from "unloading" where it wasn't wanted! Think they cost about £4 so not a huge amount lost if they don't put the critter off.

    Good luck with the mission!

  11. ..........depends which outfit ive got on!!

.......wearing a pyjama like outfit and wielding a mallet-assisting an anaesthetist get you off to sleep :naughty:

........have been known to give a good pummeling on the couch.......all in the name of therapy of course!!

    ......pinny-cook

    ......hat-taxi

    ......bullseye........target for teenage angst!!

......a few others but not for on here!!:lol:

  12. Some of us girls have spoken bout pitching in and cooking together so we didn't see that as a problem, eating out is nice but good food costs so we were banking on all mucking in. I know the non-tidal areas are beautiful but not without restriction. I think it wod deserve time but not as a hurried venture causing difficulties elsewhere, maybe that is a trip of it's own worth? Overnight fees will be cheaper in a residential area-but does that mean we have to be quiet? I feel if it's been discounted on more than a couple of occasions, there must have been reasons for it? As a stopgap I agree, if we all have enough of St kats then it's a possibility, but it was coming across as a detour for u guys to play on ribs, if that's wot u want to do that's your call, but rightly or wrongly I would have thought that would have been brought into the equation long ago.

  13. Forgive me being scratchy but we don't all have ribs! We have children who need to travel by train depending on the awkwardness of 3rd parties. Has anyone considered the added cost of travelling to places from limehouse by rail? Us girls aren't spectators either.

    Sorry I'm getting fed up
