  1. Many thanks Jim, much appreciated! Hi Wayne-thank-you!! Well im searching for pink stetsons, got the t-shirts, hoping to find pink combat shorts (saw them about last yr but not this year so far!!) pink socks, pink laces, and whatever else i can find that wont make me overheat!! As for not looking like Mr Blobby, pink and blotchy may not be avoidable, tho i will not be charging round yelling "Blobby, Blobby, Blobby!!" and knocking everybody over.......unless i fall and cause a domino effect for which i accept no responsibility!! Under such circumstances, im pretty sure it won't be "Blobby" i'll be yelling!! Many thanks again for everyones support.......will keep updating everyone with how the training is going!! Annie
  2. Im just out of the shower from my 3rd training session............woop woop, managed to run a greater proportion of the route!! Not that its a long route, but it has 2 steepish hills ............tho i must admit i havent managed to run all the way up them yet!! Blister plasters are working a treat, but I must remember not to breathe in through my mouth.................flys are cr@p at navigating, don't feel great when they hit the back of your throat, and result in a gagging and coughing fit!! (And im not going to think about where they might have been.....eww !!) So, quite pleased.......i did have the feeling progress just wasn't going to happen.........I haven't actually said that i spent a lot of my childhood restricted by severe asthma, on steroids and in many an oxygen tent, intimately aquainted with nebulisers until 19........and never actually made it round the 400m track at school!! I guess its never too late!! ..............and if it is.......i'll flippin well walk!
  3. Hey Neil, no worries, not a problem at all. I hope Karen's recovery is going well? I will keep the thread posted as to my training progress-maybe i should make a video diary if only for Gav's amusement (couldn't post it there'd be nothing but bleeps!!) Off to get more blister plasters..............and must remember to charge my ipod-it does help!!
  4. Many thanks, hope u are well and look forward to seeing u soon!! Annie xx
  5. Thank-you very much guys, .........spent 2 hours round the local reservoir today, "ouch" is all i have to say!!
  6. Many thanks Mark, much appreciated. xx
  7. Note to self-must train outside the village to avoid utter humilliation due ones running style akin to that of Mr Blobby-blotchy appearance and all...........lets face it, resembling luncheon meat is not a good look!! Result of day 1 training-blisters -achy legs -sore knees -craving for butterkist popcorn, Galaxy chocolate, and sweets. Plan for day 2-blister plasters (lots) -resemble Mr Blobby somewhere no-one recognises me so far less chance of being sectioned!! -get the children to hide the popcorn, chocolate and sweets! (if they didn't all get eaten!!) -pray for a miracle in the form of a dose of stamina and lungs that are a little more compliant to the requirement for large doses of oxygen. -Keep calm and carry on -have some Pimms in the fridge if all else fails !!
  8. Hi Everyone!! Thats it, im all signed up for the 2011 race For Life 10km challenge!! Yep, the 10km and for a non-runner as myself, some challenge it is!! I know what its like to hear the words "I'm going to refer you", to feel your blood run cold, and that very minute how everything feels like it has changed for ever. Ive been with patients prior to surgery, assisted with their anaesthetic and been there when they have woken up. I don't know anyone who in one way or another has not been affected by this dreadful disease in some way, be it themselves, friends or family. Cancer Research UK is at the forefront of giving us all the chance of achieving the best possible outcome from cancer treatment, and only through their continued research will we be taking our future back. Please help me make a difference if you can, the link to my online sponsorship is below, and if you are a taxpayer, please tick for gift aid. If you would like to sponsor me but prefer not to do it online, then please pm me, i will be very grateful for every penny. If anyone would like to sponsor me in memory of a loved one or friend, and have their name written on a banner my friend and i will be carrying, please do, you can pm me any details. Many thanks, Annie http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/annhudson-smith0406
  9. Hi Wallsend, welcome to the forum. May i pick up on two points-bridges of architectural interest......that swing and as such should thus be kept in fully functioning order, and yes whereas its lovely to be moored up on a summers evening, but over October half term many a hirer were severely restricted in their travels due to virtual total closure of this bridge to ALL river traffic......all the families we had met had been unaware of what they were to encounter. Such works were planned for half term due to fewer rail passenger numbers. Last years free passage was seriously affected for many, and whereas we all appreciate the need for maintenance it was taking the p1ss to be honest. The bridge could be locked open and passengers bussed, it has been done on many an occasion and on far busier lines. Personally last years closures seriously affected our enjoyment at some particularly stressful times. Its unfair to toll paying river users, NR are breaking the law, yet they show nothing but contempt in sticking up two fingers. Frankly, if they'd rather avoid national adverse publicity.......they really should take note-it will be coming.
  10. Hmm.......best we get prepared then eh? :
  11. Thanks for that, positive news there.............so is it fixed and swinging, or just fixed?
  12. I guess with Christmas and all, the last half term may seem a long time ago, .......100% of river users were affected, and if such work is to be undertaken again, then no doubt it will again be during one or other school holiday period. We encountered 3 families in one part of a pub on one evening who had hired for the holiday, not been made aware of the bridge closure and had their river travel seriously disrupted as a result. 3 families who may not bother hiring again!! So in answer to your wonderings, everyone is affected. As for tolls, Ian, im with you on that..........and if everyone who is a toll payer gets behind the problem, then surely everyone will benefit?
  13. Parliamentary level........if only the local MP showed any 1 interest, 2 knowledge and 3 passion to do something!! If you read his website, his feelings towards the value of the broads are clear.........words are one thing though. The crux of the matter as I see it begins with clarity as to who's noses are in which troughs, who makes the decisions and therefore where the buck stops........and who ultimately will suffer the most from adverse publicity............and what they will do in order to avoid it. Legally-if all is based on history of a different age, it could all take forever. What to do about it? It takes people pulling together.......being willing to act, add their voice, do what they can, whatever that may be. How many people on this forum say how they love the broads? This subject was covered in detail last year, so why aren't we all as a collective adding our weight to the situation? If this bridge is really going to interfere long term with the enjoyment of the broads by those with boats requiring a swing for passage.........as we have seen, people, reluctantly, relocate. Maybe some think... yeah well take your boats elsewhere.......have they thought about the amount of money brought into the local economy that would be lost at a time where small businesses can ill afford to loose business? Then everyone looses out. Us boat owners are here all year, but we saw all too well how all craft were affected last year. This is a new problem, with,as we know, more work anticipated over half term....... Who is prepared to say, regardless of owning or hiring, river boat or sea boat,.........that bridge is supposed to swing on demand, NR are sticking two fingers up, BA are not being seen to act on the toll payers behalf........what can we do?? Sorry to sound blunt, but it's all too easy to complain and sit back while others attempt to do all they can. I cant see on the NR website any indication of when they anticipate resumption of functionality..........surely having the kit to repair signals should be pretty standard? If the signals on the line are dodgy.......close that part of the line, leave the bridge open, fix the signals...........or is that too easy? Oh......maybe we shouldn't forget Reedham bridge has a habit of malfunctioning too..........
  14. Trev, I think thats NR speak for "prepare yourselves for another f***ed up season!!"
  15. Well how disappointingly predictable that this s0dding bridge would start the New Year in the same old fashion as before!! Augers well eh??
  16. Wayne......another option.......Torch man
  17. Count us in!! As for alias, will leave for you guys.......open to suggestions!!
  18. G&A

    Any Excuse

In all honesty Neil, yes i would think the same! Careful and considerate being the operative words!! We do learn how to handle speed through experience..... fast or slow........lets face it, if you have a bike that is capable of those speeds, given the chance are you saying you wouldn't open her up??.......You didn't say where the motorway was, there's not a speed limit everywhere!!
  19. G&A

    Any Excuse

Couldn't agree more guys, Hey Smelly...... Speed always needs control doesnt it?.........but only by going at speed, carefully, do you learn control.......... Careful considerate people is what we need on Breydon.............at whatever speed. Hey wot no smilie with a wooden spoon??

  21. All being well, im sure we will be joining the gang!! Look out London!!
  22. Jonny, it was the salty equivalent of "Hide and Seek", and we found the best hiding place!! And according to our son Dan, who was on Waynes flybridge, we were also "flying"!! There really was quite a fair swell, though the pics are rather deceptive, and I must admit my vocabulary was rather involuntary at times!! It was the first time out for us salty side with Escape, and she handled very well. I on the other hand need a little more work, as coming out of Yarmouth on Sunday was a bit of a bottom clencher!!
