  1. I’m all for speed cameras where they reduce the risk of accidents.  But this morning on the A14 roadworks section there were 3 safety camera vans one at the beginning one in the middle and another one just before the end.  Their only purpose for having 3 is a money making exercise and nothing to do with road safety.

  2. Being a nice sunny and warm day we decided to head out in the Z4 roof down but were to go. We (I) decided on Diddly Squat Farm. As it’s about 40 mins away. Nice drive out admiring the lovely Cotswold cottages on arriving it was incredibly busy the car park is very uneven and took some navigating to avoid being ground out. The farm shop had a queue to get in but was very disappointed as most of the shelves were empty. Bought some chilli marmalade the headed into Chipping Norton for lunch and a coffee.

I’ve only sailed one of the Wood class. I agree it is a wonderful boat to sail in most conditions, but in strong gusty winds we found it unsatisfactory. Because the jib is so much smaller than the mainsail (and smaller than on Hustlers or the Lullaby class), it becomes very difficult to control in strong gusts as you can’t use the jib to start the turn as you normally wood, it’s just not big enough. We weren’t far off capsizing at Barton in strong winds (I got very wet bedding instead lol), so they may have experienced a similar problem. If we hire Hunters again, it won’t be a Wood class.

That is what reefing points are for to keep the boat balanced. I sailed Wood Anemone for 5 years in a row while at school and never had any issues with the way it sailed. People seem to be reluctant to reef until out of control.

  4. Hele was with Hastings when her car war written of. See got an email to say the claim had been settled and the money paid to her account no option of whether to accept the offer or not they just stated the claim is closed. The offer was around 2k under its value like for like replacement I wouldn’t mind but it wasn’t even her fault. They are now off our Christmas card list.

We have used Hippersons a few times when on Water Rail. They are very helpful. I would recommend phoning them beforehand though. When we first visited, we just cruised into their basin but found their fuel quay was taken up by their days boats, so we had to retreat to the Yacht Station until later that morning. If you phone them, they will advise what time they can accommodate you.

They don’t do fuel or pump out until the day boats have gone. Caught us out twice.

  6. Be very careful if you decide to remove the glow plugs as they carbon up and snap off when you try to unscrew them a careful back and forth a bit at a time normally does the trick. The 1.5 injection pump does have a habit of leaking past the seals so might be something to keep an eye on if you continue to have to bleed it.

Very good news, the only bad bit is the Sky Sports, Most people and families quietly having a drink and a meal want to be able to talk above the cheering and jeering of local yobs watching a football match, just saying

No sure there are many local yobs in Ranworth :default_coat:

So just to be clear, I can just clean up the old non-slip bits with degreasing agent and apply new paint without grinding or sanding or anything like that?

That would depend on what state of the current paint surface. I would at the very least scotch pad the area to key it up.

Simple question in the title. Looking to hire a boat with 8ft6in air draft but need to navigate Ludham bridge (which I would do windscreen down and low tide anyway), but just curious.

I would hate to think what it would be with the screens up. This I’m guessing is a fixed roof boat.

  10. It’s a 2011 s23i with the folding tin top

It's surprising how many low-mileage examples there are out there, even in the first gen. They do seem to be a car that people keep a long time and cherish.

I'm guessing you went for a pre-LCI with the N52? I test drove an LCI (I think it was a 2013 car) 20i at Inchcape and it was a lovely car in many ways, but without the six pot it didn't really 'feel' like a BMW roadster. I think the 23i and 30i are probably the ones to go for.

24,000 is properly good though! If you do ever think about selling, I could be interested.

It’s a 2011 s23i with the folding tin top. It was part of a private collection and I am the 3rd owner. Being 6ft tall I would like an extra couple of inches in the seat travel but as I don’t get to drive it very often it’s not an issue :default_biggrin:

I think he's got one with the M54 though.... That and the N52 are pretty solid.

It's the later turbocharged stuff with direct injection that is troublesome.

I'm currently trying to work out which Z4 to buy. It's a bit of a minefield, but generally DI and turbo(s) = trouble - NA and port injection = reliable.

You can buy mine only 24000 miles. Trouble is I will have to prize the keys out of H’s hands first.

No update on the cycling malarkey bike is still in the car.

Well, Spring has sprung.  Cruised from Stalham to Sutton with the canopy slid back. Now I'm sat in the staithe, tank full of water, tank full of diesel and third tank pumped out.

Here I sit drinking ... SHANDY... albeit ginger beer shandy and working out this last winter's fuel bill. Grand total including gas,  leccy and diesel has worked out at £375 for November to March inclusive.

£100 more than last years but I can live with that!

Now, where did I stow that boat cleaning stuff.

I have been running a dehumidifier and a small oil storage heater over the winter  And my bill from December to March was £300 ish so I got off lightly.

Thank you Cambridge. Just in time for Easter there's about two miles of 40mph restriction just before the A11 turn off on the bypass. Say's it's to do with barrier safety so could be done by easter I suppose. Fingers crossed.

Think yourself lucky last week the A14 was completely closed due to flooding, the queue was almost up to the traffic camera.

  14. Most boats can have a holding tank and pump out feature. It might have had a thunder box type toilet fitted before I wouldn't be put off buying a boat without a pompous toilet, they are not that expensive to fit one.

  15. Just been looking at the Potter Bridge heights over the last 7 days .  Max height was 5'6" and minimum was 4'9". Something needs to be done as even day boats will pass at these heights let alone Martha's motor boats.

As Good Friday falls on 29th March, I’m surprised that the BA aren’t capitalising on an early Bank Holiday and starting to charge from then.

As they start at the beginning of April I might don my hi viz vest and do Easter weekend to help pay for the increased toll fee.
