  1. Ricardo, scenes like this one are the problem, nice enough people when you talk to them but the sprawl onto the adjoining land does not help their case one iota. Their values are not mine and clearly not those of an Authority determined to force their narrow minded agenda on to all and sundry.:
  2. I'm not so sure about that! The silly thing is that thousands sleep on boats every night of the week on the Broads, they are called holiday makers. There are scores, if not hundreds of never go anywhere boats at Brundall & other places that, in practical terms, are house boats, week-end holiday homes, nothing more and nothing less and the BA doesn't blink an eyelid. All very silly really.
  3. She's older than that, Vaughan. See here: http://www.broadlandmemories.co.uk/blog/2011/10/the-houseboat-heather/
  4. The owners of that houseboat have been known to criticise the Authority. Just an observation! Whilst I accept that there is dross on the riverbank, people with absolutely no pride in themselves, their boats or their immediate surroundings, most houseboat owners simply want to be left alone to live their lives as they choose. Houseboats and liveaboards have long been a feature of the Broads, long before the Broads Authority was even thought about.
  5. Rather than two sleeping bags we use fleece liners in our bags, far less bulky than an extra bag, important in even a large sailing dinghy. Also during the summer we find the liners are all that is needed. Another good source of sleeping bags are angling shops such as Angling Direct. The 'carp fishing' fraternity are extremely well supplied when it comes to sleeping.
  6. My wife and I have over the years camped out on our boat or adjoining bank well into October. This is the first year that we haven't, anno domini bites. Anyway, warmth wise, as has been mentioned, a hat, preferably a fleece one. Secondly warm feet, we both have 'Aigle' fleece wellie liners, effectively roomy, fleece socks. Tight or fitted socks are next to useless. Loose rather than 'mummy' sleeping bags are our preferred choice. Hot water bottles, god's send. We have woken to find frozen condensation on the walls of our tent yet we have remained amazingly cosy,
  7. Joking aside but have you brought along a hot water bottle? Another option is to wear two of everything, in other words layer up your clothing, even in bed. That aside it not that cold!
  8. Ben, an ideal candidate for crowd funding? I wish you well.
  9. Ricardo, I picked up on the 24hr to 48hr mooring because I see it as being an all year round proposal. Fact of life that many South Rivers 24hr moorings are being hogged at weekends. These moorings were originally provided for boats that are cruising, e.g. moving from one place to another. The floating weekend cottage syndrome is here to stay and gives great pleasure to many folk but the harsh reality is that that was never the purpose of the 24hr moorings and can be very frustrating for those actually cruising.
  10. http://www.edp24.co.uk/business/winter-s-a-magic-time-for-boating-on-the-broads-1-5234353 An initiative for the Southern Rivers. Personally not convinced its a good idea. Too many moorings already get hogged for the weekend as it without even more folk mooring their floating weekend cottages up the duration.
  11. Sorry Carol, Photobucket are effectively holding skin-flints like me to ransom and no, I'm not coughing up! If you can give me an idea of what you are searching for then I'll dive into my files. Disorganised as I am I might be able to find what you want.
  12. MkII BNP flag, save 4p, a bargain at only £9.95!
  13. What will it say about people flying the lie then?
  14. Got to admit that I hadn't considered air-draft at the bridges but why should that apply to all hireboats?
  15. Having driven over Breydon Bridge yesterday I'm really at a to loss as to knowing quite why Breydon was closed. I've seen it a lot more choppy and still open, unless everyone was just ignoring the Rangers!
  16. It's not just strays that indiscriminately crap in fenced off play areas!
  17. Afraid I cannot agree that dogs should be allowed in a play-ground, having just had to clean the dog-sh*t off my two year old grandson following our visit to a local playground. Indeed the revolting smell of dog poo in the park, as we walked to the play area, should have warned me. Why some dog owners think that their dog's waste should be acceptable to all and sundry is an unfathomable mystery to me. Dog lover, dog poo hater, that's me!
  18. Somerleyton from the other direction to Carol's picture.
  19. This one won't help Carol with her question but it will bring most of my bridge pictures into one place. It shows the old Aldeby/Beccles bridge being replaced.
  20. I thought that all of them were to a similar design, at least as far as the iron works were concerned.
  21. We'd been on a farmhouse holiday where Red Rum was resting and drove past the Yeovilton museum on the way home. Back then Concord was parked outside, we just had go and have a look. Excellent museum then, probably even better now!
