  1. I believe that it would require an Act of Parliament in order to close the bridges. I trust that the BA will stand firm on this one.
  2. Andy, I agree with your post re the potential that families will regard the Broads as a no go area. That is and always has been a problem. I visit other forums and often do I see comments about being put off the Broads by the yobbery that is part and parcel of the Broads. It might only be an occasional problem but it continually lingers and I have long suspected that whilst in financial terms yards are prepared to tolerate the yob element more is lost than is gained. It might take a year or two for the industry to adjust to a zero tolerance attitude in regards to likely anti social groups but in the long run I'm absolutely convinced that it would pay dividends. People need to have confidence that their holiday will not be ruined by extreme anti social behaviour, at the moment it's being portrayed as a high risk factor. We are lucky down South, we rarely see it but on the North Rivers it does appear to be a problem. Your comments re the EDP, spot on.
  3. Both the Sun and the Times have picked up on this story: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/outrage-as-stag-party-louts-get-naked-on-norfolk-broads-v3fhbcrds https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3997431/boozy-stag-party-lads-stripped-waxed-and-peed-on-a-groom-in-front-of-families-at-holiday-hotspot/ In both cases the reporting is poor but whilst Sun customers might be attracted to the new Falaraki or however it's spelt I rather suspect that Times readers will see it as confirmation of what they have long believed. Perhaps something of an own goal by some within the industry.
  4. I can assure you that offensive rugby types locally have been hoofed out of their sailing clubs for lesser crimes! Pinching the bums of amply built waitresses is rightly frowned upon. Indeed several rugby shirt wearing oiks have had to endure justified prosecution. Neds with dosh to splash even go sailing, arghhh!
  5. Bill is a lovely man, have no doubt about that, one of the good people. However I don't see his boss missing an opportunity to push his agenda but there we go.
  6. Rightly or wrongly I heard that scenes are or have been filmed with one of the Wherries, possibly on Decoy Broad. Now, where does the skipper work? No, can't remember! Am I right or does any one know better?
  7. Non of us can predict the future of The Broads with any great certainty, but we can look to the recent past, last ten to fifteen years for starters, and come up with educated or astute guesses. History and Parliamentary record are good allies for us doubting Thomas's! Me, I have the added bonus of having attended numerous meetings and had conversations with relevant people at BA HQ. I don't appreciate folk trying to devalue my opinion, that does rankle, especially as my comments are based on fact or comment from the horse's mouth..
  8. Jean, a very fair comment, I agree.
  9. Trench coats, Gracie, now you're talking!
  10. Bob, let's leave it there, should we.
  11. For those of you who are genuinely interested in the long term well being Broads and their rights to navigate as generations have done before them I enclose a reply from Channel 4: Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS. We sincerely appreciate that you took the time to contact us regarding this matter. Channel 4 commissions or buys programmes but doesn't produce any in-house, so we don't have any access or contact with the production company that is responsible for this programme. May we suggest that you contact them directly concerning this matter instead? Their contact details are as follows: Spun Gold TV 2nd Floor, Tabernacle Court 16-28 Tabernacle Street London EC2A 4DD info@spungoldtv.com
  12. Jean, the hire companies and agencies have long had the ability to filter out those that are likely to misbehave. Some yards take advantage of that filtering, others just grab any booking that comes their way. Personally I see the yards that encourage hen and stag parties as very short sighted. My feeling is that the industry looses far more potential bookings than it ever gains by encouraging hen & stag parties. Just my opinion!
  13. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/broads-stag-party-debate-boat-firms-argue-for-and-against-1-5101892 I know how I would vote! http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/groom-is-stripped-naked-and-urinated-on-during-stag-party-on-norfolk-broads-1-5100336 I just hope Plod becomes throws the book at them.
  14. Tim correcting her saying "well no it actually isn't but a delusional CEO likes to say that it is"!
  15. For fellow pedants that wish to advise Channel 4 that the Broads is NOT a national park: http://www.channel4.com/4viewers/faq/name/contact-the-channel4-com-support-team/id/400290878
  16. Not good if you're barefooted. One consolation, not as unpleasant as warm dog poo oozing out between your toes!
  17. Where do the ladies go? Meanwhile, back in Holland:
  18. Seen by a friend in Holland! Soon to be seen in Norfolk? Jolly well should do.
  19. So none of you lost one then? http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/reptile-enthusiast-says-stalham-snake-was-abandoned-and-may-grow-to-30ft-long-1-5097768
  20. A very small amount of research brings this answer up: http://www.lgo.org.uk/
  21. Thank you, Tim. Quite clearly there are those at Yare House that don't adhere to the Nolan Principle. Now, the Million Dollar Question. who does one complain to when the principle is breached? Pointless going via the Broads Authority's own complaints procedure because any complaint will end up on the desks of of the two that I would wish to complain about, namely 'Granny' & 'Grey Beard', the Chair Lady & the Chief Executive.
  22. Is it yours? http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/is-this-your-nine-foot-python-huge-snake-discovered-loose-in-stalham-1-5097452
  23. I note that the handbook tells us that 'high heels and leather soles are NOT suitable for boats'. Presumably Gracie missed that!
  24. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/coastguard-and-firefighters-called-to-rescue-person-on-salhouse-broad-1-5095833 No mention of the dog, suspect that rescued itself!
