  1. Not very big is this one, sorry, can't find the original. but this one too is clutching a bunch of leeks:
  2. Not sure that leeks on a boat is good.
  3. Maybe but I think it might be earlier. The son of the gentleman in question has a son who is something of a very capable 'woodie' man. Janet Anne, over to you!
  4. Tim, 'Such as a long or shared relationship with inland waterways'? By the way, Gainsborough lived in Suffolk, as does the River Waveney, another tenuous connection!
  5. Don't think that Desmond would have been seen dead in a bobble hat, even if it was a freeby left by a hirer. I stand to be corrected but I think it might be Ivan Wiltorten or something similar. Anyone know for sure?
  6. Loads of alternatives here, handy thing is Google! https://www.powerthesaurus.org/maritime
  7. Oh yes he did, he painted 'em! Well, maybe not Navy boats but still boats at sea, http://www.wikiart.org/en/thomas-gainsborough/seashore-with-fishermen-1781?utm_source=returned&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=referral
  8. Strangely enough I don't recollect having ever visited that site, more likely picked up off google and then manipulated.
  9. The Guardian, what a wonderful name their reporter has, recommends Lowestoft! Has it ever done the same of Gt Yarmouth? https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/aug/19/lets-move-to-lowestoft-suffolk-tom-dyckhoff
  10. Don't worry, DNKS, if Lowestoft loses one of its Pound Shops it won't matter, it now has a Warren James jewellery shop to complement Bright House and half a dozen or so tattooists and a foodbank..
  11. Why ever would Lowestoft want a Matalan, not when it already has Sports Direct and Size-Up? Even QD has deserted Lowestoft! Mind you, it does have three branches of The Pound Shop!
  12. May I use it, Marsh? Cracking snap! Not sure where I found it now but if it's yours then I humbly apologise,
  13. One for you, Vaughan. This boat has a Lancer hull. Perhaps you remember the two characters on the cabin top?
  14. Vaughan, the Leo signs remained where they had been painted on shed walls in large letters. Ones fronting onto Caldecott Road remained well into the 1980's. Sign boards probably went when the business went but some shed walls remained, even after Norfolk Knights and Lancer moved in.
  15. Historical and traditional rivalry: http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1604-1629/constituencies/great-yarmouth Actually I agree that Lowestoft has gone downhill, for various reasons, but then I'm a native of nearby Oulton Broad. Reality has not been kind to the East Coast ports & towns, whether they be Grimsby, Gt Yarmouth, Skegness or Lowestoft.
  16. Has the SS Richard Montgomery finally gone 'pop' then?
  17. http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/coastguard_called_after_hire_vessel_ran_aground_in_yarmouth_1_4687274 Probably hit a discarded shopping trolley, we are talking about Gt Yarmouth don't you know!!
  18. Nothing in the on-line news which, I suppose, suggests that no news is good news, that no one perished.
  19. Rope fend-offs, quadrant and chain steering, Pyrene fire extinguisher, surely the 1950's? Vaughan, Leo's sheds remained in place long after that business moved on. Richardson's shed became Collin's Pleasure Craft. Where's Clive Ricko when we want him, he'd know when?
  20. http://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk/news/historic_vessels_to_join_the_fleet_at_yarmouth_s_maritime_festival_1_4680745
  21. Sure is, perhaps not to everyone's taste but great if you like loud music and the occasional odd customer or headbanger! Had a couple of great evenings there during the summer.
  22. Re the supposed ecclesiastical privy, Norfolk ones tend to be rectangular, two foot six by three foot six, no bigger than necessary.
  23. My four daughters know those involved well and one of them phoned up today to find out that the little girl who had plastic surgery has just gone home which has to be good news.
