Good to hear Saturday looks fine.

I fear that sometimes we can be obsessed by the weather.

Storm this, storm that. Most times, all that happens is that it rains!

    Or, nothing happends.

We with our wellies at the door. Candles and matches to the fore. Torches charged. Cans of soup ready. Then, in the morning  I wake up expecting to see devastation, trees down, fences down.  Nothing. Birds singing, dogs being walked. Horses trotting down the lane. A normal day in Norfolk.

    Very Old Wussername.

  2. Norfolk Nogs visit lifts my spirits . Like a snowdrop. Heralds spring. Still a way to go. However once he leaves it gives us the fortitude to carry on during  the somewhat stingy months which await. Then and only then, summer arrives.

Interesting, I just found this within the application:

From the BA response to the plans - "Some appropriate planting within the constraints of the site would help soften the visual impact of the proposals on the local area and provide amenity for users and biodiversity benefits.
The type and location of planting should have regard to limiting wind shadow on the river in the interests of sailing."

I sometimes feel somewhat disadvantaged. A simple question? Who are these people?

Who do they seek to impress.

  4. Are there many countries in the world who have issues with measurements. Different types of measurements. Miles v Km for instance. And so on and so forth. Or is it just us, or more painfully,  NFN,  normal for Norfolk.

I used to be glued to my Broads map. Nowadays I rarely need to refer to it. I find the Aweigh App invaluable. It’s great to be able to check what the tide is doing wherever you are in real time.

I never look at a map. I seem to know where I am, where I'm going and where I've been. I cannot remember the last time I looked at one.

Now the tide is a different matter entirely. It is complete mystery to me, spring tides, neap tides, low water, slack water, wind over tide, high pressure over Dogger Bank.

I look at the river Yare and I can see if it is on the ebb, or the flood which has no bearing whatsoever on the board at Reedham or that bloke on the forum or indeed anybody else for that matter.

    I don't think so.

“We’ve also seen greater activity in the sector from owners of holiday parks and associated leisure hospitality businesses which do share some similarities in terms of the underlying business model with marinas.

“As a result, we anticipate that interest in Broom Boats will come from a diverse range of parties.”

From Christie &Co who \re handling the sale

Jon Patrick, head of leisure and development at Christie & Co, which is handling the sale, said: “We’ve witnessed an uptick in the demand for both inland and coastal marina and boating businesses over the last 18 months.

“This has come from existing UK and European operators, as well as boating and marine enthusiasts and investors.

"An uptick in demand"  plus “This has come from existing UK and European operators."

I feel a bit queasy. Unsettled

I wonder if this was triggered by the planning refusal for the floating pods in the marina.

  8. I have given your post a "like". It deserves more than that. I lived in Thorpe St Andrew as a teenager

A bike, a fishing rod, the Intrepid reel, a landing net and a keepnet.

Just me. I told no one. A very happy private period of my life.

In less enlightened times, pike caught in the Northern lakes and dams where I grew up fishing, were often left on the bank to die. The consequence of removing the "top predator" was the proliferation of runty little silver fish up to the capacity of the water to support them.  We rarely saw "specimen" fish of any type. I am glad that thinking has moved on.

Great to be able to see a fishing post. How many times do you see a person on a boat fishing? I'll tell you.  Everywhere. All over the broads. Wild moorings, BA moorings, everywhere. On rhe bank, match fisherman, on a hire boat a holiday maker trying to capture a memory. A grandad and his grandson the old boy trying to demonstrate that there is more to understand and appreciate than a screen.

And yet we find ourselves on this forum going off piste I think sometimes. Nothing wrong with that but let us not forget our true values. That which decided us to arrive here in the first place.

  11. South is the utopia of the Broads. Unbelievable views to be seen on the upper reaches of the Waveny. Norwich, the Wensum.  But you have to make an effort. You will be well rewarded.

Cruise the Yare. Enter the city of Norwich by the river Wensum. Look to the East towardsthe hills of Mousehole, the scene of Ketts Rebellion.

The Bridge, Brishops Bridge. The scene of deaths and carnage.

    And of course  Lollards Pitt.

Lollards Pit, located just outside the old city boundary of the English city of Norwich, was the place where Lollards, and later a number of Marian martyrs, were burned at the stake for heresy. The condemned would be led across Bishop Bridge—and thus outside of the old city walls—to be. Executed.

Carry forward , past the green fields of the Norwich City Grammer School. You will pass a Swan pit. For the table of the Bishop of Norwich.

And then, other delights, of the wonderful city of Norwich.

You will find yourself so close to the city of Norwich, its cathedral and castle, wonderful boutique restaurants and wine bars. .

I don't think "historic" makes something worth preserving to a fine degree. That is what the listing process is all about.

Sorry FD. You have me confused, disadvantaged. Easily done.

    Historic.

famous or important in history, or potentially .

    Listing process:

Who, you me, i do live hear you know. Do I not have a say.

As I get older, and older, I witness Broadland, the city of Norwich, the villages of Norfolk being exploited by by those who wish to take financial advantage and then guess what. Move on. Leaving behind social issues with regard to education, care for the elderly, medical centres, dentists, hospital admissions.

Our rivers, marshland, broads, walks, birds, fishing, . All under threat.

Sadly our wonderful heritage the very foundation of our existence and values seems to be of little value and in many respects i personally feel somewhat vunerable, however I am of an age that hopefully there are those much younger than I who will transpire to the ideal of my older generation.

Please excuse my ignorance but why I are we discussing Lake Windomere, it is a glacial land locked lake and part of a much wider area ie the Lake District, the Broads are a tidal river system with some man made Lakes (broads) its chalk and cheese and has no bearing on the current discussion.

    Fred

I give up sometimes Fred, I really do.

Can we not have a constructive, focused discussion which relates to The  Norfolk Broads.

    Mission creep. Or Mission Control.

There needs to be a conversation, devoid of repercussions for those who fear retribution with regard to their sound believes concerning the future, our future.

  14. My dear chap. We suffer from the same affliction. I have met you several times. Sipped a libation. On your very boat with dear old Timberatus.

Last year. At Ranworth, as you moored your boat, under duress, we made eye contact.

    Followed by embarrassment.

    We both said "Who" ?

Fair comment, but if you hired from the same yard year in, year out, should they still have to insist on a trial run every time? Even when they know and recognise you and recall how often you've hired?

    Why not?

It is the trial run driver's responsibility to make that decision. I have. On very rare occasions, I have refused to sign off a trial run.

I do not wish to go into any detail and neither will I.

However, suffice to say  that I have had to make a decision in certain instances. The last holiday on the Broads in particular.

    The last holiday.

  16. The Ranger (BA), the Trial Run Instructor (Boat Yard).

Some walk the walk. Some talk the talk.

Very few do both. Who is qualified to have the accreditation of delivering the necessary , and may I add a consistent, defined, constructive, recognised and disciplined induction to the so called Trial Run.

  17. What is meant by "Charter" moorings? Presumably the hire fleet, if so why not say so. Or does it imply a better, more sophisticated boat (read posh hire boat.....expensive) for a clientel that can afford it and willing to pay. As seen on the Southern rivers.

  18. I joined a forum about the rivers, broads, marshes, fishing, boating, sailing, walking, bird watching,.

It seems to have degenerated in a bit of waving of Uncle William.

A bit boring to be honest.

For those who have an interest in The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.

I could list my cars, but are you really, really intersted?
