  1. Lord Paul of Sealand..once a very active Forum type on The Broads and a keen photographer overflew it with an early private drone. It should be on YouTube, but it is a few years ago now.

I wonder what reason there could be for this, other than cost?

An unusually wet Winter, too much "Staycation" hype in the Press and on TV.

Cost at present is a real problem for alot of folk and if they are going to spend, then. the warmth, atmosphere, food and ambience of the Med carries a certain guarantee.

Back in the sixties, there was a height gauge just inside Herbert Woods entrance which you swung out and could check for yourself if it would pass under the bridge.

This was us on September Dawn in '66 (from Dawncraft Wroxham). The gauge is the wooden post on the right of the photo which when swung out, was a bit like a 'hanging scaffold' which you could then pull your boat along with ropes to check the clearance. As Maurice said, no pilot in those days but there usually was more clearance.

  4. My pet hate, (which is by way of a warning) is, on receiving a comunication it starts as follows:-

    "I share your concerns"

We have found it normally means...."I intend to do (or vote) the opposite" or do nothing

One person here abouts is commonly known as First Name   "I share your concerns" Last Name.

Note how after 75 years I have started using First & Last in place of Christian & Surname.

What would be the cost of a Kings Counsel to look into this?

    Griff

I had to use a specialist QC back in 87. Back then I calculated about £750 per hour. For advice. Then of course you have the risk, should you take it further of having the other party costs awarded against you. The desire for litigation is a great way to go skint.

  6. I am not a lover of big screens in pubs at all.

But 2024 is one hell of a year for sport for both sexes and on top of those it is an Olympics year. I feel not having coverage this year could actually cost you precious revenue.

It is a long Winter in Norfolk.

There is a joke in there Grace. But I am too much of a gentleman to say it.

"I'll have a pint of Red gov".

You could see through it. Always a good sign. Tasted good. None of this silly froth business. No bits in it. What ever pub with Red Barrel it was always the same. The more you drank the better it became.

I drank gallons of it. Everyone perfect, never cloudy, no dregs, just a good wholesome pint.

Never ever cloudy, there was a degree of confidence in what you were getting.

What ever pub you were in.

Now, funny names, Old Glug, Up your nose, Crafty, Wicked, Old Dredging.

What are we drinking, who knows?

We need guidance from the forum.

    Old Wussername.

Founder member of the Watney Red Barrel Association.

Membership stagnant at this moment in time but open to membership for those of like minding appreciation and recognition of a good wholesome pint.

Maybe we should look to a merger between youselves and ourselves " The Ind Coope Double Diamond Club" our membership is actually falling as members fall off their branch.

The Gate in Northwood during Summer 1966 could not be bettered for a pint of lovely DD.

I parked at the  Harrow viewpoint on Monday and you could see the planes coming into Heathrow and the ones coming out to the west!  The area might not get flooded but the paths are seriously muddy with running water coming down the hillsides

When we first married we rented a semi in Sudbury Town. On a nice evening after work we would drive to Old Redding and have a few jars in The Case is Altered. Happy days. I have not been there since 1973.

Or Horsenden Hill, but The Ballot Box was not so nice a pub.

If that's your mileage, you're best keeping those cars until the wheels fall off. There's no real need to replace cars that aren't causing trouble.

I think @BroadAmbition would approve of those numberplates....

Thanks Oldgregg, it is good to have someone confirm what I to thought. Another consideration was a couple  of years  ago or so my son and I went flighting at the start of the season on St Davids Peninsula. Every day we travelled over 3 miles on an old quarry road which was in appalling condition. At the next MOT the car had 3 failures for cut tyres so I told them to fit 5 x new Michelin Cross Climates (not cheap) the four have done about 6000 and are like new, the spare zero.

Given that the other rumoured sale appears to have fallen through, you'd have to wonder who else would take the site on.

MDL Marinas spring to my mind, but then so do one or two other big operators.

Given this quote from the existing owners,

"They said the reason for the sale was that, after more than a decade of ownership, they wanted to focus on their other company, a strategic land and property development business".

I doubt very much that it will be snapped up by someone looking to redevelop the site for housing. The refusal of the pods makes it clear that further development is limited.

Precisely, hence the reason for unloading. Brooms was a venture capital purchase by people from a property background who's plan was always a major residential leisure redevelopment. If that now looks doubtful, why hang on.
