  1. yes same as the other one - an electrical plug.
  2. so after taking a couple of evenings off - as I wasnt sure I had enough time of an evening, I got the epoxying done, prop shaft, support and rudder all fixed in place., then the skeg was fitted and bolted in place while everything was setting, all set now and I am happy with the alignment. since I got some additional bolts, I made a better selection of round head allen bolts to hold this on, these will have a smoother profile than the current allen socket bolts.
  3. we often get students or dominoes pizza employees parking in our road. the worst are the students, who all (to their credit) park really close - but they all have small cars, so along comes me to find no volvo sized spaces, and a small car length between every car. we are the closest spot to park to town where you dont need to buy a parking ticket, thus saturdays we get all and sundry parking. to overcome this when I turn up with a car full of shopping I just double park while unloading - if someone I have blocked in turns up and wants to leave, - well I will just be 5 minutes then I can move my car - would you like to help me carry my shopping to my house?. Like some others here the road only goes across the end of the row of houses so you cannot park outside your own house, thus its a free for all, and a bit further away is a residents car park.
  4. squeeze a smart car either side and block her doors she will soon get the hint.
  5. The question is - will it be dismissed by the broker before he puts it to the vendor, as he only gets a percentage for his commission (unless he has managed to get a solid figure for his cut).
  6. its a good job its a boy - just think of all those broads and dykes a girl could have been named after - then thinking about it - Cockshoot might not be so good for a boy.
  7. my only issue with Lidl is I go in there with the intent to buy some food, and come out with a table saw (or insert tool of choice / offer of the week here). if I could stick to just buying the food, my shopping bill would be far cheaper than other supermarkets - but...........................
  8. party - did someone mention a party - welcome from me too.
  9. its the yellow stuff you dont eat
  10. Tim - I once made a Plainer sled, it was just two runners on a sheet of ply - it worked well when the snow was deep enough.
  11. Last night, another nearly whole hour lost to the vagaries of the Dartford Crossing, an accident on the other side, so we just stop, at junction 30. Not a lot of work done, but at least I got a little bit sone, the wood block for inside the hull was drilled and marked for the ribs, and the grooves in the bottom for these was chiselled out. now all that is needed is for the hull to be cleaned up to remove any glue in the wrong place and this can be fitted in place.
  12. heres to the next 43 years
  13. dont forget, a narrower boat will get through easier than a wider one due to the shape of the arch. so an 8 foot wide boat may get through easier anyway
  14. our bathroom was heated by the pilot light to the geyser this was on the wall above the bath, and was the only hot water in the house, downstairs you boiled the kettle for hot water (this was one of those old fashioned lethal gas water heaters). we did have oilstoves, but after my mum tipped one over and it burst into flames (my dad picked it up and removed it from the house) we were always a bit dubious about them.
  15. you are actually true to 1/4 thou (1/5 of the total - remember) so even better to impress with.
  16. yep, so the answer to that is pretty OK, the guy on the page I looked at said his runout was 2 thou total, at 0.05mm yours is 1 1/4 thou, he was perfectly happy with his runout, so as yours is about half of his I guess yours is fine.
  17. is that the total error after 5 cuts, or the total error divided by 5 to get the actual error?
  18. take your glasses off, now hit yourself over the head with the piece of timber - does it feel square?
  19. I think we might let you get away with one thou out of square, you will go further out of square if you sand it anyhow. you could always square it up when you varnish it, by adding an extra layer of varnish down that edge.
  20. I suppose you must wash off all the deodorant - before applying a new layer. I remember back to the days I was small, Ice on the windows, a bath once a week, and a good scrub with a flannel the rest of the week, you didnt stay long in the bath mid winter, with the upstairs unheated, and just the one coal fire downstairs.
  21. they are for when you feel like a battered cod.
  22. while expensive and generally quite smelly, Lush do some nice solid shampoos and some nice shower gels, all are environmentally friendly, and the solid shampoos are good for travelling. I like their honey soap. as for showering, a flannel some soap and a sink of water, and you can have a good wash all over.
  23. tonight was busy working on that rudder, the fittings have been made and soldered together, paying careful attention to alignment, solder has been cleaned out of holes, and the whole temporarily fixed back together, next to add some wood inside to support the rudder, then cut the rudder parts to length and glue into place, this rudder is bigger and closer to the prop, with a larger leading edge in front of the rudder shaft.
