    Flooding

since my neighbours concreted their garden over on rare occasions I get minor flooding in my garden (maybe an inch near the back door) of course this is the area I have now built my shed, and over the past few weeks I have had several occasions where the puddle has started to form by the back door (now has a paving slab step which helps avoid paddling.)
  2. I have just ordered 2 new hoses for my Hetty (bought cheap at a car boot fair), she is used in the workshop and this time i was hoovering up swarf and managed to get an immovable blockage in the hose- disconnected and finished the job with the hose from my henry (indoor hoover- bought new) and noticed the hose on the hetty was a good 1/4" smaller, now usually when the hose clogs i just drop a 12" bar of 1" dia steel down the hose and shake it up and down as a slide hammer, but this time the hose got properly bunged up, so I ordered a new bigger diameter one (plus a spare) only £8 each so i got 2. if the motor still runs its almost certainly a hose blockage. my parents managed to blow their old henry (actually it may have been a james) up the other year, they complained- it was only 20 years old.
  3. I have to agree, when I was first driving between ashford and canterbury, the 15 mile journey would take 20 minutes, and it was a 60mph A road all the way, with the new speed limits thay have introduced it now takes 40 minutes and there are about 2 miles which are 'national speed limit' and now they say the pollution is higher- well no doubt because everyone is speeding up and slowing down the whole way, its a 40mph limit until about 5 miles from canterbury, then 50 / 40 for the next 5 miles
  4. I fully intend to grow old - Disgracefully. I now do what I want, when i want, and if that means I get the urge to go to the theatre or the circus on my own, I have no hesitation to do so. If I want to collect junk, or get rid of junk, I do, if I want a shed for my hot tub, by george I will build a shed for my hot tub, no matter if the neighbour hangs out of his window watching and passing comments (who cares - he barks back at dogs and squarks back at birds too).
  5. dont forget the essential cooking implement- a good non stick frying pan for cooking the bacon.
  6. have you tried asking at the hampton safari club- they have some information about sourcing the mk1 and mk 2 rollers here - https://hamptonsafaribc.org/answers.html#Canopyrollers
  7. many years ago I had a trip on the medway queen, a truly wonderful experience
  8. I can remember when we rewired Royal Tudor, I managed to obtain a section of busbar from a 400A MCCB, this was then cut in half for positive and negative busbars, so at least one boat has a set of brass busbars that are 3/4" square cross section, I dont think that will fail any time soon.
  9. I think we should be reporting groundings along this stretch to the Broads Authority, especially if you are nowhere near the banks, if we build up enough reports then they can no longer ignore the situation and say dredging isnt necessary.
  10. if you hire a Marthams boat, their staff take you through Potter Heigham, any other bridge you have to do yourself, they are one of the few hire companies that dont stipulate a pilot for wroxham.
  11. or this - (6'1") to be honest I cant see what all the fuss is, every time I hired a boat from Marthams I got through in both directions without a fuss.
  12. Heres how it should be done (at 5'10")
  13. like a lot of places now the first few posts have to be authorised by the moderators (sorry I cant remember just how many its set for), I have just approved the above 2 , but hadnt seen any others until now. eventually you will get enough good posts under your belt and will be able to post freely
  14. water rail has a rewireable ceramic house fues in the most inaccessible place behind the rest of the electrical panel, hopefully its not still wired in (there is a fusebox inside the heads too- behind the bulkhead for the main switches.)
  15. Now MM I see where you made your mistake, I use an electric bike so pedal gently while the motor does the hard work, this means I get fit slowly, and gradually as I progress start lowering the pedal assist level (generally I cycle out on assist level 4 and back on assist level 3, meaning I warm up on the easier level then have the harder work as I am heading the right direction - home. I have heard of swytch, they seem fairly reputable and can cater for the size of a replacement wheel to match what is on your bike (they have even fitted one in a penny farthing (though I doubt your bike is that old.)
  16. while I am on faceache, I would not even consider looking up information on the pub there- to start with that would mean remembering the pub name, and B would require I was actually using facebook at that time, its not something I have open and readily available at all times. in fact I rarely have a phone or tablet handy when on the boat, they both usually sit forlornly in the cabin waiting for me to remember their presence. recently I posted a comment about how most youngsters nowadays would be lost if they lost their phone, i was challenged with the comment what would i do if i lost mine- my answer was I would manage without it, then checked my phone to find a missed call from 2 days prior- thats how frequently I use my phone. (oh and two messages reminding me I have an upcoming appointment- click the link to find out when- of course as my phone is not smart, I cant click the link, so will be attending on the date and time from the letter I was sent.)
  17. the beginning of this week was a bit hectic, I had a training course arranged for me early tuesday, so monday 6am set off for a 4 hour drive to Coventry, on arrival I then proceeded to work from our head office there. by 4pm I was flagging and made the decision to book into my hotel. once there I snoozed for an hour, prior to going down to the restaurant and having my evening meal. after that an early night was called for, so by 8.30 I was asleep. I must have been tired because I woke at 6am just in time to leisurely get ready and head down for a slow breakfast. After breakfast I got ready and was in the office by 8am, where I settled in to record a training video (twice - because I had shared the wrong screen) then it was team meeting time (where the shared inbox and workloads were discussed) after that it was time for my training. after a busy morning training, we finished about 12.30 and I got back into the car for the drive home. This was a nightmare of hold ups and delays, so it was just before 5pm when I arrived at the pharmacy for my warfarin blood test, just enough time to get it done on the correct day. then it was home, and time to cook my evening meal (followed up by some pancakes) and then another early night.
  18. Moving in the tools and lighting, one of my 3 pillar drills at the end, plus one of my big vices, going to play with positions before finally fixing them down. Battery charging under the sockets, and tool storage in cases above on the shelf . Just need six mire pack of pine cladding for the ceiling.
  19. well just as I was completing the panelling on the second wall, my nailer /stapler started making a hissing sound as air was bypassing the trigger mechanism, today the offending thing was disassembled in the hope of finding the broken part, which I did, it was the piston valve, the one part not available as a spare for this model (actually its all 3 parts of this that are not available) so this afternoon after work it was a guick trip to my local quality tool supplier (nobody really local having the beast I wanted- and shortly after forking out 100 smackers I was headed home with a new toy. this one is labelled professional though so it had better not break down on me.
  20. yes electronic aids are a good thing but when you drop your phone overboard, or it gets wet and stops working, most modern kids would be totally lost without their phone, they have grown to rely on it to the extent they cant even buy food without the phone. in the past I have killed 2 phones by water ingress, and one holiday I forgot it and left it at home, and yet still managed to enjoy myself for a whole week on the water. As for data, no, I wont get embroiled in the financial scam that is the modern phone contract, for me its pay as you go, even with data on my wifi dongle, I will buy a 12Gb data package with a 1 year expiry, and maybe it runs out after 11 months, so yes data use by apps would be an issue, for me. but then I am an admitted luddite when it comes to certain technology, get a smart phone and keep in touch with everyone- the issue there is do I really want to be available, probably not.
