Surplus to requirements- heavy lead mudweight in the region of 30kg I think. Will weigh and add photo later. Collection only from North Essex. An offer approaching scrap value will secure it.

Hi. Does it have a compass sensor? I know not a necessity onthe Broads,but I'm a salty and it would be a handy addition!

The dolly sprint at least looked even if it didn't work very often. Well,at least until the rust took hold!

Hi all. The new project boat has a Perkins 108 diesel coupled to a triumph dolomite marinised gearbox. As a newbie to inboard engines, does anyone have any knowledge of these gearboxes? Is it a common installation,are they reliable and what is actually done to Marinise them?

From what I've read elsewhere there seems to be 2 very differing sets of opinions(as with most things in life). Some love steel boats,some think they are the work of the devil. I'm very open minded and haven't really formed an opinion yet. I know the boat in question was built and equipped for round the world cruising and the price was very attractive. Time will tell I suppose

Another new project boat,it really must be the last! Just can't help myself. This time around its a biggie. 11 metre steel yacht,fin keel,draft of just under 2 metres(too big for the broads?) and 3 metre beam. Quite a lot of work to do,some/most of the deck plating and cockpit need replacing. A few minor jobs to do on the 1.8 Perkins diesel and a lot general tidying up/refitting/painting etc. overall weight is about 5.5 tonnes inc 3 of lead ballast. Any advice from other steel boat owners regarding paint systems would be much appreciated. As would any advice on steel boats in general. Thanks

On our very first weeks boat hire 3 or 4 years ago we crossed breydon water with absolutely no bother. There was a couple of boats aground at that time too. If you read the literature supplied from the yard(richardsons in our case) and plan properly it should be easy enough. Perhaps the yards should start fitting depth Sounders and LOUD alarms?

And no bigger than a small torch so easily carried in pocket/handbag

Standard USB port for almost universal connectivity. No connection to the company other than being a customer.

Not for broads use,I can generally find my way around ok! This would be more for coastal cruising,Norfolk,Suffolk and Essex coasts. Have got full set of imray charts(this years!) and the gps would only be for confirming my somewhat dodgy navigation.budget is tight(as always) and this was considered as the most cost effective solution at moment. The boat is a fairly new-to-me acquisition and I've tried not to skimp on any safety related items, but that has left the pot a bit empty

Hi all.not really broads related but boat techy all the same. Just ordered a new iPhone. Got an old cheapy smart phone surplus to requirements which I'm going to leave on the boat because of its GPS capabilities. Also have non GPS tablet. Now the dumb question! If i tether the phone to the tablet will the tablet receive the GPS data from the phone? Bigger screen obviously so more usable/practical. Thoughts please? Thankyou

From my admittedly limited experiences,the broads are the broads. I enjoy them all,north or south.just being on the water is what matters. I can chill and relax without worrying where i am.

The very first job i did on my current boat was remove the outboard and take it home for safe keeping.although secured with a hardened chain and padlock(for which i had no key) it was secured to a lightweight deck fitting which took about a minute to cut through with a hacksaw. That's how easy some people make it for thieves.

1997?thought it was a lot earlier than that,1970's? It inspired a punk rock song (gary gilmores eyes,by,i think,the adverts)as i believe his eyes were used for transplanting. I may be wrong,not for the first time!

Personally speaking,I think I'd rather take the gamble of buying a used well maintained engine of superior build quality than gamble on one of the Chinese ones.if you're careful/fussy they are about.hell,a noisy smoky smelly seagull would probably last longer for even less outlay.(I quite like seagulls BTW)

Its common knowledge that Chinese mm's are up to 25% bigger or smaller than European ones and that their tape measures are made of elastic!

I work for a company that,as part of its business does final assembly/fault finding for another company. A major part of the product is shipped from China. Alas,job preservation prevents me giving details of the product involved, but its an expensive item. The Chinese component is rubbish. Badly made,poor materials.warranty claims are commonplace. Its not even at the budget end of the market so there is not that incentive to buy.quite the opposite in fact!
