Thanks again. Marina the shopping thing is quite a novelty. I was heavier than I am now when I left school over 30yrs ago. I'm getting used to it a bit too quickly though Alan, looking forward to it, truth is I probably still eat more than I should but just make a healthier choice. W- I appreciate what you say, we spent 3 days on the broads eating in pubs and drinking and put on 3lb in a week. It goes on a lot easier than it comes off that's for sure Steve

Another update. As of yesterday I have now lost 4st 9lb (29.5kg) feelingso much healthier in general. So glad I did this and buying clothes in a high street shop is something I haven't done for years, had to buy larger sizes online. still going, hoping to be at 5 1/2 loss by new year. Steve

I'm after some local knowledge if anyone can help. i want to get from Somerleyton marina up to Wayford bridge hotel using public transport, taxis, horse and cart, tractor, in fact by any means possible ....... apart from walking ive been quoted over £70 for a taxi for the whole journey. Anyone have any ideas of a cheaper way of getting there please. my taxi, commonly known as Jaws, probably won't be available steve

We just agreed with him the the little project he could get at your home marina would be great. It would give him something to do while you sit on your laptop and the internet . if I had the know how I would set up a vote on here and see how many agree. A simple 'should Dave get the little project boat' YES or no. (Ooops, my caps lock got stuck then) is all that's needed #supportdavesdream Steve

As you say David it is a choice to cater for each individual parties needs when choosing which boat to hire. I'm sure the perfect boat for everyone has yet to be built. Glad your Mum enjoyed herself, I wish I could get my Mum up on a holiday but she is on a walking frame and couldn't do the steps on and off. looking forward to the holiday tale and some pics. Steve

It was good to see both boats together again. Yes you did nearly talk me out of the selling but it was a heart V's head situation and unfortunately you can't always go with your heart. All I can say, and as others will read, you and Dave made our last voyage on Lady P one of the most enjoyable times we have spent on her. The weather obviously contributed greatly to that as well.

Deb and I are off for a week in September and contemplating at trip to the northern rivers on Lady P. While on the southern rivers we can work out moorings when up for a week to incorporate shower facilities as we know where they are. My question is are there any facilities available for private boats up north? steve

If so will you venture south? we are going to use her now Alan, Hyacinth, sorry I mean Deb, will now happily sleep on her since the inside has been done and the cruise at the weekend certainly helped give us a bit of confidence in her again. I may even have to go up Saturday for the day while Deb is working and take a cruise down to Oulton Broad YS and say hello to the rowdy lot from here if I can bribe someone in to coming along for the ride

Always Iain, accidents can happen anytime, not just while mooring

As most on here will know we have had a few issues with Lady P over the last 12 months. Well this weekend we have eventually managed to use her after a top end engine rebuild (just about) and a total refit of the lining carpet and upholstery inside. we arrived around 11:30am on Saturday and put up the curtains on the new rails I had fitted. Then sat and had a bite to eat before starting her up and heading on our way around 2:30. We had no real destination in mind but headed towards the WRC for her first run in anger. 45 minutes later after a gentle run down at 1500rpm, which is around 4mph on Lady P, we arrived at WRC only to find it packed. It looked like a Hampton Safari club had book the moorings for the night so no room. Some of the Hamptons looked lovely and in the party spirit with bunting flying from most. A quick discussion and seeing as Lady P was behaving we decided to head for Beccles. An hour and a half later we arrived at the yacht station which had plenty of room. Then I thought lets go on and spent the night at the locks inn. Through the bridge we went and on to the most scenic part of the Waveney. As we arrived at the pub the moorings were full. A little disappointed we turned and headed back to the yacht station. We moored up around 18:30 and after sorting a few bit out we took a walk in to the town and had an 'OK' meal at the Kings head. Being a Wetherspoons you will only ever get what I call 'ding' food (anything that can be cooked or heated in a microwave). After we had eaten we took a slow stroll back to the boat and sat out with canopy open and had a nice relaxing drink on a lovely pleasant evening. 4hrs cruise with no issues, we are starting to gain a little confidence back in the old girl. Woke up about 7:30 on Sunday morning. Breakfast and the normal morning bits out of the way we were on the way back up the Waveney by 9:30. A pleasant cruise back to the marina took us about 3hrs but we were in no rush. 7hrs cruising over the 2 days and we enjoyed every minute of it. It is so good to be back out again.

Had a call from my eldest daughter last night asking me to pick her up as her lift had failed to turn up. I arrived at Shepperton lock, where we had agreed I'd pick her up from just after midnight. As I pulled up I noticed a small cabin cruiser drifting across the river. I jumped out the van and 'met' the cruiser as it was about to touch the pontoon. The engine was running but no sign of life onboard. At this point a small craft with a very strong flashlight appeared and asked if anyone was onboard. I replied telling them that my banging on the roof and shout if anyone was there had got no answer. The small craft came alongside and I could then see a policeman was one of the guys on the small boat. He boarded the cruiser and quickly check but no one was inside. As he departed he said that a guy was missing and asked if I would tie the boat up, which of course I did. unfortunately this has been reported today.
