  1. Thank you ladies and gents. I've noted bits and bobs and will take on board (excuse the pun) your comments.
  2. Only booked it last night as we live month to month because of my mums health. This will be her last holiday. So (a) didn't have time to find a suitable boat within budget and boat yard (b) needed to find a boat with a suitable layout for her needs (c) she isn't going to be getting off and exploring a lot so will be a case of just cruising, so again layout is important (d) we're not wasting any part of the holiday, but gaining time with my mum. She used to do this holiday all the time since 1960's and she spent her time cruising up and down and I'm trying to give her back what she had. But as I hadn't been on the southern for a few years, I was just asking for recommendations.
  3. Hello all. Well it's my turn to book 'the holiday' this year . Guess where we're going! We're taking my mum, which is great. She hasn't been for a few years due to poor health so I want to make this a good one. I want to head some where not so busy, so we're going down the southern part to maybe not be in the hassle bustle, so any recommendations for some nice pub/moorings. Her mobility is not great so she cannot walk to places. It will be a case of Moor, get off and then sit. I haven't been over breydon for a while so I'm unsure of what's there for pub/moorings. Thank you
  4. In my work life I'd agree, to the 'challenge' but I'm on holiday and I have enough of that on a day to day basis so the thought of mooring next to someone who's made it quite clear we were not welcome was not appealing. Maybe was just a one off. (Hopefully)
  5. i agree, def was both parties for hirers and privates but this is the worse I've seen. Also to point out we were sworn at by the stag boats not privates. But still not nice when you have two 70 yr olds on board and thought it was a relaxing holiday! Still shouldn't have happened. we ended up doing more bank moorings than normal which was a shame, as me personally, I like to talk to people and see where they're going etc... Just the norm really. We were going to moor at Wroxham and the bloke stood on the front and said "I hope you're not stopping next to me". We just abandoned and moved up. Totally unnecessary. Maybe I should take as a compliment that they think we look like 18 yr olds! And party animals (Nice thought).
  6. well just came back from the broads, the 4 of us had a smashing time, we all had a great time in our company. . I have always and always will give newbies a hand and benefit of the doubt, especially as they shout as mooring "I'm so sorry, we're new to this!", no big deal, you can assist when and where possible and normally all is good! (PLEASE don't slate me, I'm reporting on issues that affected me on that week.) I can honestly say, I've never encountered such rudeness from private boat owners EVER since I've been going for 20+ yrs. I appreciate that you own the boats and are not hired, BUT my issue was with courtesy, friendliness and the like........ we felt like we had an incurable disease that was so contagious it was untrue! (not just us that experienced this) secondly, where are the broads authority? we saw one chap at 'Potter', that was it for the entire week. When coming and going through Horning, we passed 7 boats full of stag parties, got loads of abuse as we were travelling at 3 mph, never been sworn at for doing the limit before, and the speed they were doing, they were racing up and down (cockshoot dyke where we were moored). But in general, the speed of boats from HIRERS and PRIVATE boats was incredible. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a party pooper and I like to have a laugh, but its not the place for that? Or am I getting to old???? I choose this holiday for the purposes of a chill out week and I thought others did to. Has so much changed in 2 yrs???? We did have a good time but there seem to be so much that marred it this time which I've not encountered before. Has anyone else noticed the change???
  7. Hello all. I just want to confirm I have this right to cross Breydon? (Just planning ahead) leave Acle to pass through Yarmouth at 12.30 on Wednesday and come back through Friday at 3pm. I have found a chart on line but just making sure this is kind of accurate. In gold gem boat so can limbo under Vauxhall ok. Thanks.
  8. I'm only asking as I'm unsure. If you rent a house or visit hotels and holiday destinations, are you not supposed to have carbon alarms fitted ( I don't know, just asking) ? Will this be introduced on boats do you think? If it's possible that this was a private boat, 'alarm bells' will ring for installation in holiday boats? Normally follows on ...
  9. ok, who's brave enough to confess?? What have you done whilst boating, whether holiday hire or owning a boat??? what did you bump into or 'bury your head' whilst something happened.
  10. Yes I get why you'd book in advance for those purposes and working round children's holidays and the ideal boat is important, which I totally understand but I only booked mine last night and I can't sleep now!! Ive got 4wks of total absolute manic work coming up so these 4 wks will zooooom passed hopefully.
  11. For a start off I like to know how people book this 12 months in advance! I struggle with 4 wks. I am dragging my 'in-laws' and other half along again, picking up Richardsons Stalham, I would like to take them through Breydon this time but we'll have collective thoughts when we're there. I've been going many many years, they're still 1st timers and anyone I introduce always loves it. It's the quiet, the still-ness, the thoughts, the laughter and family values that I love. Obviously the nature etc...... Can't list them all.... I don't care if my phone hasn't got signal, I don't care if I have no wi-fi, I love talking to other boat users/owners, holiday makers, I love that there is no where else to go and people who are techy minded are 'forced' to become who they were before the modern world took over, it's great to see that and I have seen it first hand. The relaxation in someone when they let go and remember they are not joined at the hip with a PC. (Sorry, rambling now). Could talk about it for ages......... That why I love the broads!! Anyway, 28th June here we come! Anyone else there or there abouts??
  12. Ha ha ha!! Sorry, far to excited. June not May. Forgot what month it was.
  13. Hi all. I am not a regular poster but I do watch on here. Up on the 28th again!!!!!!!! can't bl@@dy wait!!
  14. Thank you for your suggestions, I've been going for a long time but never dealt on my own. Mum only has ability to move from A to B and that's about it. On the boat she'd be fine, albeit slowly. thank you for ideas for the boats, it's all been very useful info. I do hope I can get her there, she loves Horning to Wroxham and the surrounding areas. Will be looking at March time ish
