  1. What's wrong with everyone? Spiders are our friends - without them we would be overrun with flies and I know which I prefer. Just imagine what it's like for them living in a world where these giants want to squash you with the nearest flip flop!! No creatures are evil - just hungry!
  2. Yeah thanks. Its an 18.5 and our pride and joy. I bought it three years ago as a wreck and spent a year on a full refurb.
  3. I fly the White Rose with much pride as you can see in the pic. Complete with flat cap. The only thing missing from that shot is my Jack Russell. I was moored at Wayford and removed it as it was in the way of my fishing rod. An angler on the opposite bank shouted across "tha carnt tek that darn lad"
  4. My point entirely - there is no info regarding angling and who takes priorty. I like it there but will now avoid due to my short temper and not wanting confrontation whilst on holiday!
  5. We noticed at the start of this season that the No Fishing signs on the quay heading between the two bridges had been removed. We have managed to moor there throughout the summer but the number of anglers has been steadily increasing. The BA signage for the 24hr free mooring does not state that anglers must make way for boats wishing to moor so I can see this causing problems. Just yesterday we heard from some friends of ours that they struggled to get on the moorings because they were lined with anglers. The angler that took their ropes pulled them in so hard that they hit the quay heading and damaged their paintwork. They were miffed with a boat trying to moor up and were concerned for the welfare of their fishing rods. We came home yesterday afternoon and going over Potter road bridge it was clear to see that there wasn't a single boat there and no space either as it was lined with many anglers. This is just a "heads up" to anyone wishing to moor there in future as the situation is not clear at all and I can see a potential for confrontation between boaters and anglers. Let's be careful out there. Regards. Mark.
  6. All the best with whatever you decide Robin. Sounds like an exciting future in front of you - go for it!!
  7. Just had a look at these boats you have mentioned. Working in London must bring in very good wages!
  8. We're on the water this weekend but I believe Salhouse is stern moorings? That would count us out!
  9. Well said but have you noticed their regard for the speed limit disappears the second you chose to undertake!!
  10. It's the same as those motorists who sit in the outside lanes of dual carriageways and believe it's there right to be there because anyone wanting to overtake would be speeding!! Nonone should speed but it's up to the authorities to enforce the limits!

    Catfield

Is it worth the effort? A couple of weeks ago we headed up to West Somerton and whilst the place is very nice the passage up there made me nervous. The massive amount of weed makes it look very shallow and you wouldn't want to meet a boat coming the other way.

I've seen that black and yellow marker post and did wonder what it was for. Now I know thanks. Just measured the walking distance to the pub on Google Earth - less than a mile!

Our home mooring is at Whispering Reeds at the top of Hickling Broad. I would like to go and have a look at Catfield and wondered if there's any problems in getting there. Is the channel off Hickling clearly marked? Is the dyke easy to navigate? is it worth it? etc......... I like to do my homework before setting out so any advice would be appreciated. Regards, Mark
  14. Hi. I'm replacing the impeller on my outboard - a Yam 9.9 4 stroke. I know they twist into the housing in a certain direction but being a pillock I didn't take notice of which way the old one was in. Can anyone enlighten me? Regards. Mark.
  15. Hi all. The anode is missing from my outboard - should I replace it? The boat is kept in a dry berth and launched when we use it. This is probably a total of three weeks per year. Can anyone advise? Regards, Mark.
  16. I've been in touch with Steel Developments and they are going to refurb my existing one. Thanks everyone. Mark.
  17. Hi all and happy new year. I think I've already asked about this a while ago but now time's getting on and I need to do something about it. I have a Norman 18.5 with a 9.9hp 4 stroke Yamaha outboard. It goes pretty well but vibrates a bit and the prop is well worn and needs replacing. There is no number stamped on the existing one and there seems to be a multitude of options available. Pitch, diameter, etc........... The boat is used only on The Broads. Can anyone advise or point me in the direction of a specialist I can talk to? Regards, Mark.
  18. You're probably right. More clothes and winter sleeping bags seems the way to go. We've stayed in tents in freezing conditions quite comfortably. all. Mark.
  19. Sorry. I meant no monoxide inside if properly fitted - and it would be!
  20. Thanks for all your comments. I'm toying with the idea of a miniature wood burner. Obvious risks involved but no monoxide to worry about. Mark.
  21. Thanks. Is there enough places with shore power on the northern rivers? A small 1000 watt fan heater would be sufficient and relatively safe but I would worry about getting moorings with power. Regards. Mark
  22. Hi all. I'm thinking of using my 18.5ft boat in the winter but with no heating it wouldn't be feasible. Does anyone know of a cheap, effective and safe way of heating a small cabin? I could use a fan heater but that would require shore power and I don't want to have to rely on that. Regards. Mark.

I like the idea of reversing in but to be honest my boat steers very well in reverse so I don't think there'd be any issues backing out of the staithe. I launch at Whispering Reeds and have to back out of the slip in sometimes tight spaces and never had a problem. Mark.
