  1. Well done for saving that worktop, a brilliant job. May I suggest for future cleaning of the oven, Lakeland’s Oven Mate. Spread the gel stuff on a cold oven, leave for up to three hours as necessary then just wipe off with a damp cloth. It really does work. One of my pet hates is cleaning ovens but this stuff makes light work of it. Wish I still had a dad who could work wonders like that worktop repair!
  2. Have you any idea how old Rufus might have been when the picture was taken? There was a tv series back in 2005 called Narrowboat Afloat and a follow-up series in 2006. Pinpointing Rufus’s age might help identify the time period.
  3. A friend’s toddler was sitting in her highchair eating a boiled egg and soldiers. She dropped one of the soldiers onto the floor, looked down at it and said ‘thit’ (she had a lovely lisp!). Neither of my friends use bad language so heaven knows where she picked it up, just shows how easy it is these days.
  4. We have found O2 coverage seems to be getting better and better across the Broads.
  5. I thought Mo Farrah would do well. Whilst all you blokes usually go for the formula one guys, I reckon there are lots of ladies that think a lot of Mo and they are probably the ones who voted. I almost posted my thoughts on here earlier but decided against it - wish I had now!
  6. Possibly in HW’s boatyard?
  7. You could try emailing Lana Hempsall of BDC, I reckon she would respond pretty sharpish. Her involvement with the BA might enable her to get to the bottom of the issue sooner rather than later. Worth a try surely?
  8. I still think that our tolls are good value for money. The main gripe for me is the lack of moorings now. Having said that, we are lucky enough to be able to pick and choose when we go out and that makes a world of difference to being tied to weekends and suchlike. As we spend 15-20 weeks each year on the Broads, it would take a lot to spoil our enjoyment. My understanding of what goes on in the BA offices comes from the minutes of BA meetings, be they Nav Comm, Planning or whatever. Add that to the information/speculation etc that appears on the Broads’ forums and it is a case of making your own mind up! I think that if something really untoward happened, the boating community would stand together and not just roll over and submit. I hope so anyway.
  9. Ricardo - well done for contacting the BA for their take on this issue. Will you now be contacting Broadland DC to get their reasons for the power being denied to boaters during the winter? It could be an interesting discussion.
  10. Ricardo, is this something that you could discuss with the BA? You are, after all, afloat all year round so may have need of the electric at Reedham. Until someone gets BA’s view on it, we don’t really have the full facts - IMO anyway.
  11. I have just decided that I would like to come back as a University Vice Chancellor. Maybe I could upgrade the boat then.........
  12. A waste of time as far as the cafes are concerned, pity nobody local to Salhouse came on the programme. Radio 2 only used the story to highlight the CPN aspect, clearly short of current articles to cover. I think Jeremy Vine said there were very few people phoning in.
  13. Support requested by Andy McNab, sure gets my vote.
  14. Probably a ploy to avoid having to have a shedload of cash available. In all the years I hired I always got cash back from the yard immediately. As for ‘money laundering’, that’s the flimsiest excuse imaginable! I think the few pounds involved would hardly qualify for that.
  15. How bizarre and in a small village like Salhouse. A shame but I do wonder what the truth really is.
  16. At least the posts at the beginning of the Chet might be gone by then!
  17. I have long thought the NP issue a very complex subject to understand and I too learn something new each time it is discussed. One definitely needs to keep an open mind if at all possible!
  18. How very true. If someone stops posting because they can’t be bothered or because ‘it’s all been said before’ then I guess they are probably not as passionate about the subject as they would have others believe. If new members ask about an issue they have not come across before, they are entitled to the best explanation members can offer be it in support or otherwise.
  19. Sounds horrific, hope you have got rid of them all at last. I’ve never heard of them before and reading about them I hope never to experience them. Funny how these things happen when men are at work and not there to help isn’t it!!
  20. If a car ends up in the river briefly (like the one at Reedham recently) will it be charged a short visit toll??
  21. I wonder who won that tussle, wouldn’t surprise me if the bass got the better of the otter!
  22. All these concerns that rely on volunteers deserve all the help they can get. Why air ambulance services as well have to fund themselves is beyond me, how many lives have they saved over the years? Hats off to all these guys and gals.
  23. Same here re moneysavingexpert.com, the website comes up with lots of good ideas for saving cash on many things. Definitely worth a look.
  24. Besides which it is too darn cold to stand in a boat shower this time of year! Check with BBC that they have no problems with you crossing Breydon, some hire companies don’t allow it out of season. Wherever you go and whatever you do I am sure you will enjoy near empty rivers and a choice of moorings. Magic - enjoy!
  25. Same here but the boss keeps topping it up again! Even so, there’s nothing like a freshly pulled pint - or half in my case.
