  1. Earlier this year, the two electric posts at Hardley Mill were ‘re-wired’ during the night to provide free electric. Maybe the Sutton post has been tampered with in the same way. It’s quite a drastic measure to put the post out of commission if it was just because of the over-stayers.

I don’t think the Whitlingham moorings are shut as such. They are, I believe, under the care of Whitlingham Charitable Trust but are being totally neglected. Liveaboards have moved in and a couple of ‘no mooring’ signs have been attached to the quay heading but it’s questionable as to whether these are ‘legal’ or not. If there is a space available, there is no reason why it should not be used as far as I am aware.
  3. Are you sure the fee signs had been painted over? They had changed the £5 fee to £6 a while ago and the signs had been changed to reflect this but weren’t very clear. In some cases it did look as though the £5 had been blanked out.
  4. Wouldn’t call that a ‘slight’ accident! Hope you heal quickly and enjoy your holiday, September is still a couple of weeks away so things should be a lot improved by then.
  5. Why tongue in cheek? It’s a very valid suggestion. However I don’t agree curved doors are dangerous, if they were they wouldn’t be on sale. I prefer a curved cubicle and think they are just as roomy as a rectangular one. Personal preference I suppose.
  6. It already is, bathroom faces north. Any more bright ideas boys? (Subtle or not, doesn’t matter.)
  7. I’d cleaned ours the day before too! The guy at Matki, the shower maker, said that a knock could have done it although the knock wouldn’t have had to be particularly recent.
  8. Does that mean bad bosses will be given the boot?
  9. I thought you were never too old?🙃
  10. Strange thing happened this morning. While we were out walking the dogs (and visiting the vet but that’s another story!) our shower door completely disintegrated! Took ages to clear up all the bits but made me realise how fortunate we are that we have good safety standards in the UK. Imagine if that wasn’t good safety glass! No clue whatsoever as to why/how it happened, luckily the shower is subject to a 10 year guarantee with a year yet to run and a new door is already on order. I’m so glad we were out and not showering!
  11. That’s a fantastic question and I’m looking forward to the answers! Meanwhile I’ll gather my own thoughts but I am a relative newbie not having started my boating life until the early 80s……..😏
  12. We had something similar a few years back, some silly helmsman thinking it would be funny to rock the boats moored up. Despite our boat rocking around the clock, I managed to grab a camera and bump off a couple of shots before the guy came completely off the plane. The BA appeared quite quickly after I contacted them and took a statement. It cost the errant helm a hefty fine and, as we didn’t have to attend court, I guess he didn’t contest the charges. So definitely take reg details, keep a camera/phone handy and don’t hesitate to inform the BA.
  13. I’m pretty sure these flies were from the livestock at Stracey. As I posted earlier, we had the same problem the evening before. We have three farms where we live and summer brings these horrible little flies out in their hundreds (or even thousands!)
  14. We walked along Worlingham Wall last week, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Red Admirals! There certainly does seem to be more butterflies in general this year.
  15. Definitely! We crossed Breydon on Monday and stopped overnight at Stracey. 16 flies were despatched in the morning and many more over the next 24 hours 😠. Nippy little flies too, always seemed to see us coming at them! We cross Breydon 4/5 times each year and I always use the long stretches to do some cleaning, change bed linen and prepare/cook meals. As well as a share at the helm of course. I’m always thankful when we reach the Waveney, Yare or Bure however as I’m always conscious that ‘things can happen’!
  16. Peemails are very important to a dog and need a lot of attention. However, owners who allow their animals to read Peemails in inappropriate places, like on ropes tied to a post, need to be remonstrated with imo. It’s thoughtless and inconsiderate.
  17. But there are hills in Suffolk……… Anyone know where this notice board is? I remember going to a super farm shop near Corbridge, Brocksbushes. This was many years ago but I still have a carrier bag from the shop and it’s still going strong!
  18. Walked it about a month ago and it was ok.
  19. Sorry but you’re wrong. I was actually there when a ‘private’ notice was put up on the upstream section of moorings. I was advised that a sign would follow on the downstream section. Maybe you missed those?
  20. Where there’s a will as they say. But of course that’s the problem isn’t it!
  21. Trouble is, the next notice says the same so further gets further still!
  22. They’ve been updated then. That wording does seem to give a bit of hope………🤞
  23. Both sets of moorings have ‘private’ signs now I believe and apparently there is also a ‘bouncer’ for want of a better expression.
  24. Those signs have been there for some time now and they’re frequently ignored or not noticed. It is a pinch point and wide boats moored there can be a problem at busy times. I guess people just see the 24 hour mooring bit on the sign and don’t bother reading any further. So many times I’ve felt like pointing it out to someone moored there but so far I’ve managed to bite my tongue!
  25. I think in many cases it is but not always. I think some people wish they are the only ones on the river. 😁
