I think in many cases it is but not always. I think some people wish they are the only ones on the river. š

I certainly agree, it is getting worse. Many of the gin palaces, as we lovingly call them š, create a vast amount of wash and almost never slow down when passing moored boats. Shame on those helms. I have noticed too that the Broom Captains and Skippers etc create more wash than most hire boats. Do boatyards warn about wash these days? Iām sure itās in the skipperās manual on board every hire boat but I donāt think these get perused half the time!

I would guess at Brundall, itās an interesting question so hope somebody may be able to give a definite answer.

Think Iād prefer 4/5 20 year olds!

Where did summer go? š¤

Tingdene have already taken it onā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.. All info on the Tingdene website, doubt if there is any comparison to 9 years ago!

My understanding is that they do still offer visitor moorings although booking is probably advisable.

The very first time we hired in 1982 was from Brundall, R & D Smith who I think later became Stellarcraft briefly. We hired from Anchorcraft at Acle a few times, that was another great yard. Itās only fairly recently the name of Anchorcraft has finally disappeared from above the wetshed there.

I was in the food store yesterday, no printed receipts available but the card machines were happily working ok š. Strangely the two clothes etc units were issuing receipts! Sounds as if itās all been a bit of a nightmare for them.

I think the tides are high, it is springs but they seem higher than normal. I āborrowedā this from fb, taken yesterday I believe at Cantley - Cantley can overtop at the best of times but I think this is ott š. I guess the recent heavy rain has had an effect. (I notice the grass has been cutā¦..) -
On their website, Broomās actually suggest going as far as Reedham on their electric day boats. Norwich one direction and Reedham the other.

How And ,why And When Did You First Visit The Broads

Reading all these posts does tell me that a lot of us are, how shall I put it, a little past our prime perhaps!! Itās clear how much we all got hooked however. Favourite place is a difficult one, I have quite a few. Langley Dyke used to be one of them š¢. Fleet Dyke is another. Oh heck, what grendel said, anywhere Iām moored up! -
Thank you for doing this. Iām trying to work out just why the RSPB become involved in boat moorings! (There are access ways now by the way.) To be honest, it sounds like an excuse and I wouldnāt be at all surprised if this reason is given for other moorings to be neglected or only partially maintained. I noticed the RSPB have closed the hide overlooking the Broad now due to it being unsafe and it looks as though thatās how it will stay. Probably being left to ārewildā and eventually sink into the broad.

How And ,why And When Did You First Visit The Broads

1982 for us, a boat called Morning Star from R & D Smith at Brundall. Although we had some trauma with the boat nearly sinking due to a shaft problem, it didnāt put us off. We hired every year after that, sometimes twice, until 2005/2006 when I had to have both hips replaced. Decided to see in 2007 if boating was going to be a possibility again and luckily found it was. So much so that we bought our own boat in 2009 and havenāt looked back. -
Is there a title for this pdf? I ask because Cantley is shown as granite but there is grass behind. Rockland SD is also a granite path with grass behind but is shown as grass. Iām confused! š¤

Iāve heard it said that, once profits started to be made the rent was increased which eventually made it unsustainable.

Itās a sad state of affairs, I do wonder how families get on when the kids want to play in the grass. Our two small dogs are struggling to walk almost anywhere we stop, their heads keep popping up to see where they are! When we stopped at Cantley it was obvious not a lot had been done there either. Itās very quiet here on the Southern Broads although today is a changeover day. Called in at Loddon Staithe to get a water fill and newspaper, only one small boat there. Actually able to moor side on to make life easier filling up. Only 3 boats moored at Pyeās Mill at 11am.
-
I think thatās slowly improving, got a little way to go still though!
-
We moored at Berney Arms last month to walk the dogs, we purposely moored very close to the mill. It was pretty hopeless to be honest, the grass was far too long and the whole area looked unkempt and unwelcoming. BA have 3 areas for mooring, Berney Mill 1 & 2 and Berney Arms reach. Funnily enough, the area not BA managed looked as if it had been mowed. Itās not a place I would want to stop overnight now and, reading the EDP article, probably will try and avoid in future. As the Burgh Castle moorings are now open again, have a lot more to offer in the way of walks etc and have been superbly refurbished, itās a far better option.

This is a sunscreen actually produced by the dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon who dealt with my problems a few years back. The website is altruistsun.com but you can also get it from Amazon. Very reasonably priced too.
-
I think maybe weāre not going to get any definitive answers here, until such time as the BA gets around to issuing an MCN to a private boat owner who denies liability because they werenāt at the helm. (Maybe thatās why Ranworth is apparently now covered by CCTV, like sending a photo of your car showing who was behind the wheel when youāve got caught speeding!)
-
I think weāll have to disagree on this one. If a hirer refuses to pay, the BA has to rely on the hire company for details. If a private boat owner refuses, all the info is readily to hand for them.
-
It all leaves the private boat owner rather at a disadvantage doesnāt it! I wonder how many hirers have refused to pay.

Until very recently, the sign to the Broad (almost opposite the Brundall Church Fen moorings) pointed to Surlingham Broad. It now says Bargate Broad. Maybe the sign to Ranworth Broad should be changed to Malthouse Broad!
