Thats the wet shed we are talking about (I think...lol) I agree but am starting to change my mind a bit. Once upon a time there were many many boatyards with slipways and cradles which allowed wooden boats to be supported along their keels when taken out from the river. These days half the slipways are blocked off in the name of flood defences and the other half have been built on! The result is cranes with straps giving hulls a twist and a nip as they lift out and in some cases you can see the hull bend as the weight is taken on chines never intended for the purpose. Yes there are some very skilled, caring and careful operators out there but I do wonder whether, with our (normally) milder winters these days, the taking out each year unless for needed maintenance is still such a good idea?

Been exploring options for her winter storage so she can stay in and not have the same problems next season. A wet shed is a possibility, we also wondered about tenting the dyke she is in now for the worst of the weather. Wooden boats eh? Who'd 'ave 'em!

Someone, moored next door, who shall remain nameless, arrived the following morning armed with a selection of materials to stem the flow having been kept up all night with the bilge pump firing its contents against his hull I, of course, never heard a thing

Yup, guess who? Timbo rang me this morning and said its been decided that I should get this years calendar up and running. Of course he never actually said who had decided so, if you are reading this, thanks..... I think! Its time to get the wheels in motion and pop into Boots and have all those summer films developed ready for this years selection. September is here already and we have all had some glorious times afloat this year, it seems the brown is something called suntan rather than rust! Our forum calendar is always popular, from submitting your photo's and then the picture selection process right through to being able to enjoy the finished result for the next twelve months. It also provides you, the members, with a chance to help with the running costs of the forum. As you can imagine, all forums have costs involved so, at the size and level the NBN runs at, it is important that we keep the finances coming in to ensure our ongoing success. So, lets be having your images of the Broads in all their glory. I have just browsed the picture thread (and bumped it of course) and there are some glorious pictures already. You now have just a few weeks to submit your finest! Entries will close 30th September with the voting taking place the first two weeks of October. That means a month to put it all together and print and the finish article will be out at the beginning of December. Any questions, comments etc on this thread please so we can keep the picture thread for the pictures. Cheers all

Mahogany frames, 4mm ply, epoxy sheath. It'd even hold me!

My choice would be the solid roof on arms but.... if it ain't easy to use you won't use it, whichever way you go with it. The solid roof could have a winch included at a later date to aid lifting whereas the canvas will always need two people.

Tartan had a three piece screen from new btw. I do prefer the two piece with the two piece cabin front though, much cleaner.

Over the years we have taken a huge selection of dogs boating. The one thing I have noticed is that they are always far more adaptable than we give them credit for and where we had expected problems the mutts turned out to be better at it than we were! As has been said on here many times, a doggy life jacket is a must. It's nothing to do with swimming abilities, more a convenient handle to be able to grab hold of and, whilst I doubt you would be lifting a soggy Newfoundland, the handle, hooked with a boathook, will allow you to steer him/her to safety. A bright orange blob is far easier to see in the water as well.
