  1. How do we find out whether all this branding and promotion has been a success? At which point is it justified? Would a 5% increase in hire boats over the next two years due to demand be considered appropriate? Would Broads Tours laying on an extra cruise a week be deemed a success? Are we already seeing the effect of the new branding by the increase of new members currently joining this forum? What I see in the banner at Beccles Station is a typical generic view of the Broads but, yet again, lacking in one key element.... there ain't a boat on it! Best we take that as an oversight and not a mission statement eh?
  2. Love it! Well done sir. This is almost as good as watching the real thing being built.
  3. Our next door neighbour dismantled his childrens old climbing frame and left it out on the front grass verge for a passing scrap dealer to collect. It was gone within an hour. The following week his new washing machine arrived so the old one was duly popped out on the grass and was 'collected'. That weekend he mowed the said piece of grass, got called in for a phone call leaving the mower running, and yes, you are way ahead of me here... the mower went missing. Anyway, he got a crime number and a lecture from our local bobby who suggested that, in light of the previous 'encouraged' collections he put this one down to being a pratt!
  4. Looks like I need to get up in mums loft....
  5. I bet you have a picture of Blue Lagoon somewhere Peter?
  6. Ah, such memories. Both Katrina and Miranda were part of Saturday turn round. We used to take up and pump about 250 gallons of water into the rooftop tanks. They had thunderbox loo's (probably still have) so while the water was being pumped one way the waste was being pumped the other. Separate tanks and pumps before you ask. Most of the lighting, heating and cooking was propane based so a couple of gas bottles changed and fresh batteries for the pumps as well. We also had to take the cleaners up to do their bit. The hirers loved the houseboat s, they always let well and many came back year on year. They had a weeks boating with the launch, were afloat and their car was nearby when needed. We seriously considered buying Katrina last time she was up for sale (£25K) a few years ago but didn't go ahead. She is too rich for us now!
  7. Is it ok to keep lerts in the box with the roundtuit? I am no Ionger able to say 'when I get a roundtuit' anymore. Some smart a... - sorry, her indoors, bought me one for Christmas
  8. Is 'the Broads' the only man made national park?
  9. But it would get you up to Norfolk on the company credit card so win win really. Shall I say it for you? "If only!"
  10. Also stops all that gnashing and grinding of teeth
  11. You see, that's the whole problem with elf n safety. It erodes the adventure aspect of visiting these establishments. Not knowing whether you would survive your visit at the Lion without being maimed, poisoned or insulted only added to the experience and, if the pub didn't get you, chances are the moorings would on your way back in the dark.
  12. Good choice of boat for a young family. As to the Broads... you'll love it!
  13. Fortunately the Thurne Lion doesnt need dredging
  14. We use 2k (2pack) as well but instead of Griff's way we do a shiny top coat and allow to dry. Then we mask the areas to be non slip and those bits get a light rub down to key the paint. Next we mix another batch of the same 2k top coat and add the sand to the paint mixing in well. This coat is applied with a very short haired mohair radiator roller so it's nice and even. We then de-mask before it drys so there is no problem with edges being damaged later. Job done! Like Griff says, the key to a long lasting job is preparation. Everything sanded properly to get good adhesion and nice and clean. Proper primer and undercoats when needed and don't forget there are etch primers available as well. Your paint supplier will advise.
  15. Oh I am quite sure 99% of the members on here will afford the forum the same rights without hesitation because they are those sort of people. However, the forum does need to own or have control over any media used in its own promotion, that goes without saying, and it could cause an issue if that perfect sunset piccy adopted by us as part of our campaign also turned up in other people's advertising as well....
  16. I am not sure the forum would be allowed to use photos submitted for the calender competitions for other purposes without prior agreement with those that took/submitted the original picture. We certainly do have to be careful in this area, as you would expect us to be, to both protect the forum as a whole as well as possible interests of the originators of the pictures.
  17. How about huge charges put on empty houses to make them too expensive to have sat unoccupied? Fill that little lot and, just maybe, we could keep a field or two or worse still keep a boatyard or two! Have a sail round Oulton Broad and then ask yourself "what have we allowed to happen?"
  18. Not sure this is relevant but various kit and equipment was only just being unloaded and taken to Somerleyton bridge yesterday (along the north river bank from the marina) so they may have not done the job yet! According to one of the drivers it's for bearing maintenance. They were unloading what he described as cradles to lift the bridge onto.
  19. I think that tow boat ended up with Peter Cooper at Broadway Cruisers where it continued to do sterling service.JM may well remember it also
  20. Actual. Highlight 5 (JA was Highlight 6) Jacqueline is having to take an enforced back seat at the minute Liz
