  1. If commercial fishermen or farmers buy the fuel direct from the supplier in bulk at 2000 lit plus then the cost at the present time is in the region of 48p per lit. As a matter of interest red diesel bought commercially in bulk in 1997 was 6p per lit.
  2. To sell fish now the boat has to be a commercially registered fishing boat with a licence to fish. At the present time red diesel for registered boats costs in the region of 75p per lit.
  3. Its not always obvious to newbies what way the tide is flowing:- 1. When travelling along watch the water close to the bank you can sometimes see debris and bubbles flowing along with the tide. 2.Watch the fishermen and note what way they are facing, if they are facing to the left they are watching their floats going away from them being taken along with the tide. 3. look at posts in the water as you pass you should be able to see the tide hitting one side of the post. 4. look at the ropes of moored craft on the side of the river, if the bow rope is tight and the stern rope is slack then the tide is hitting the bow first. 5. When approaching a mooring with lots of moored boats and the vast majority are facing one way then that's usually the way to moor up (but not always) 6. Have a broads tide table on board.
  4. Its good to see the Berney open again I have my doubts that it will be open for long. Interesting news about the planning application.
  5. It would interesting to hear what is happening to The Berney. Perhaps someone passing can stop and find out if the pub is opening. When we spoke to the would be land lady she had already done a lot of work inside the pub to prepare it for opening and was looking forward to the opening date
  6. You could consider installing a water heater exchanger unit which costs about £80. The unit consists of a small radiator unit with a fan behind it and the unit is fed with coolant circulating from the engine this would help to keep the boat warm in cold weather however in the summer time if you installed shut off valves in the system then the flow of hot water through the unit would be cut off and you could then use just the fan to circulate cool air through the boat. The units are readily available on the web and the speed of the fan can be controlled.
  7. There is good pike fishing ground on the Yare between Brundall and Surlingham ferry with many double figure pike being caught each year.
  8. The A14/ A11 route seems to be the better route now that the A11 has been sorted out.
  9. Try The Bridge stores at St Olaves. They sell used boat items. If they cant help they may be able to advise you where you can get a screen.
  10. We regulary motor up the Yare from The Berney area towards Brundall. We start to see freshwater fishermen just upstream from Reedham Ferry near Hardley Cross. Dave R...........
  11. Seamark nunn from Trimley near Ipswich and ASAP supplies have some 12 volt fans listed on their websites.
  12. If Wilks cannot help then I think that Walker rubber will be able to help. They can manufacture almost any rubber profile from a sample that you can supply them with. I guess that it would be expensive and it may be better to renew the rubber fender completely with D section from Wilks or another supplier. Dave R.
  13. It looks like a fairly common D section fender rubber which would be available from Wilks Marine (they have a website) or perhaps from Walker Rubber in Norwich. Its more common now to fit a plastic extrusion strip inside the D section instead of the aluminium one to avoid corrosion problems. Dave R.........
  14. 12mm or 14mm would be about right. 16mm is an overkill. Thinner rope is difficult to handle.
  15. Hi Andy and welcome from me....Dave R............
  16. There are now 24 hour free moorings on The Berney Quay on The Yare, it would be good to see hook up points there. Dave R......
  17. There are a lot of telephone scams going around linked with unwanted sales calls. A caller display unit is a worthwhile investment- that way if the call comes up with a display like international, withheld , unavailable or a telephone number you do not recognize then you have the option of not answering the call.
  18. We have found it best to get polyester ropes, the rope always remains soft and pliable and is easy to splice. Nylon ropes are ok at first but after time go hard and not pliable. Dave R..............
  19. We were outside the pub on Saturday evening at about 7 pm when we spoke to a lady who said that she was the land - lady, she was doing some work to get the pub ready for opening in two to three weeks, we didn't see any signs outside the pub then. Dave R...
  20. The Berney Arms should open with the next 2 to 3 weeks. We spoke to the new land lady this weekend who confirmed this. It will be good to see the pub open again.
  21. check out Shell Helix 10/40 oil on e Bay in the yellow containers - price is good at about £20 for 5 lit.and with free postage.
  22. If you go onto the ASAP marine website and enter lifting ring into the search box you will see what they have to offer - there is a good choice. Dave R.......
  23. We have been on BT broadband for several years with no real problems. We went over in infinity about 8 months ago and have a superb service which is ultra fast. Dave R
  24. Has anyone been to the Chinese restaurant in the main street at Loddon near the 24 hour moorings - if so is it worth a visit?
  25. The weather should be better its summer now but does not feel like it. It seems that every weekend when we take the boat out its windy with rain as well.
