  1. Very good news, the only bad bit is the Sky Sports, Most people and families quietly having a drink and a meal want to be able to talk above the cheering and jeering of local yobs watching a football match, just saying

  2. In this world, you get what you pay for, and Bridge Craft has a good selection of craft from the budget end of the market,  our favorite was Golden Bridge, in fact, we appeared on their website when hiring her, and was pleased to see that she was revamped and put back into the higher market, if you want to spend more they have the larger and more modern boats with all the bells and whistles, but personally, we like basic, we now have our own ex-hire boat which we are very happy with but if we went back to hiring We would definitely go back to bridge craft, regards Ted

I spent an absolute fortune (over £500.00) on a small Waeco Fridge (CR50). Now don't get me wrong, it is super efficient, quiet and gets lovely and cold - but my god you'd think it was made out of gold for that sort of money but that is the sort of going rate seemingly the smaller the fridge the more money they would cost.

You could try these 12v fridges manufactured by Boo for use in camper-vans, and do cost a little less than the Waeco versions and sold by Planar (who do great marine heaters and with whom I used to buy mine). The fridges come with a 3 year warranty - far better than the 12 month one Waeco offer.

Don't whatever you do go down the route of a thermoelectric 'cool box' style one. While they can keep things very cool, they are always on and very inefficient and will draw a lot of power.  You could use an Inverter, then buy a small domestic 240v fridge for a fraction of the cost of a 12v one. Ideal with a larger battery bank, ability to charge that bank quickly and a solar panel able to top it up too always helps - we have this set-up on Broad Ambition which works well, but it certainly would not be for everyone or those tight on space. Also there are efficiency losses from the inverter doing it this way, but it does save initial outlay and when the fridge packs up a few years later is cheap to replace.

Wish I'd known about those cheaper caravan fridges, I paid just short of £700 for mine, I guess we live and learn.

  5. I normally use mine throughout the winter but owing to some niggling health problems haven't been down to the boat as often as I should, but about the third week in March we'll have to be on board as our bathroom is being replaced and I need somewhere to wash and crap But I'm sure everything will fire up without a problem including heating, fingers crossed, so in answer to posters question mid-March seems a good time, go for it

  8. This threads headline is cheap diesel heaters coming from China what about meet range diesel heaters which are safe and certified to use on boats and I believe our Russian yes I said Russian in origin and the importers are AUTOTERM

The Chinese heaters are about £100, the other three leading ones are £1000 plus, but the AUTOTERM ones are about £500 and safe, I know which ones I would go for.

  9. Thanks for the heads up on the diesel supplied by some of the yards, I will only be filling up at my own yard if possible as I trust the diesel they are using, it's a bit like classic cars that unless they have been converted to run on E10 You have to use the super grade old E5 Which is more expensive of course or risk failure of rubber piping seals etc And then of course we have the modern road diesel with higher sulphur content, still no bloody good for our old BMC Marine engines.

  10. So glad the database is now safe and will continue, something that valuable just couldn't be lost, Craig Photographed my first boat a couple of times, and the one I own now when previous owners had it, I look forward to our new Custodian running and updating the site, regards Ted
