  1. Been a wonderful day celebrating our sons 30th Birthday Tomorrow we travel to Norfolk!
  2. So we should have been heading to Norfolk today for our first trip on Moonlight Shadow from her new home at Horning Pleasurecraft, but it's Julie's birthday today (I have informed her that I am looking at trading her in for a younger model! πŸ˜‚) and our son has booked a meal tonight at a local restaurant. Then Saturday is our sons 30th birthday and as we have a large garden and more importantly for him a bar, he wants to have a party at ours and has invited many of his mates round! As a result we will be setting off Sunday afternoon with a view to arriving at the boatyard around 7pm Hence missing the meet this weekend, but we will be with you in spirit....or more likely knowing our family and friends...lots of spirits, and beer and wine!!! 🍻🍺🍷🍾πŸ₯ƒπŸΈπŸΉ
  3. More than welcome We are probably heading up the Ant Monday / Tuesday, Wednesday we are going to give them a swim at Salhouse Broad so will probably spend the day and evening there and Thursday we are heading back to Horning If you see us, by all means come across and say hello
  4. Have a wonderful time and really sorry we couldnt be there We are on Moonlight Shadow that week also....... But its my sons birthday on Saturday and we are having a bit of a do, back in "Bolton" so wont get to the marina until Sunday evening as we are travelling to Norfolk Sunday afternoon when you lot will have finished your fun! Hope to see a few of you over the week though if still around Have a great meet
  5. My pleasure Helen I think its great that our members interact so regularly on the Whatsapp group and are keen to keep submitting blogs and other key information for the website We are certainly on the up as a group
  6. Loved the write up Helen On our last trip from Loddon to the Yare along the Chet we startled a deer on the banking which then started to run for some considerable distance along the bank in the same direction we were heading. The poor thing must have thought they were being chased! It eventually darted left through some reeds and out of sight I never tire of the wildlife you get to see (for those who care to look) on the Broads Look forward to reading your next update
  7. The mind is a wonderful thing and people can get very set in their ways! My wife will only have Cod......albeit when I have been to the chippy and for an experiment, bought Haddock instead (and not mentioned it), she has eaten it without hesitation or thought that it wasn't her favourite choice, because in her mind it was Cod. I went to a social event last week with my brother, his wife and my son. They had 2 lagers on offer (Carling and Coors) The Coors was frothing like mad and took ages to pull a decent pint, but my brother and sister in law both insisted on Coors because they can't stand Carling! I later went to the bar on my own and asked for 4 pints of Carling, but could they put 2 pint in a Coors glass for me because I couldn't be bothered waiting for a pint which was so difficult to pull. They did and my brother even commented "now that's a proper pint" Yep........... Ohh what a powerful thing your mind is!!🀣
  8. Deepest condolences to you and your close friends family and friends at this sad time
  9. Neither did I and until someone proved to me it was I would do it and plead ignorance...
  10. We recall sitting watching a very large (approx 60ft), very expensive, sea going, private vessel trying to moor side on in Brundall on the main river Yare with a skipper on board who obviously had no idea what he was doing He messed around for at least 30 minutes before he "luckily" managed to get in, during which this vessel was stern in, bow in, 90 degrees to the quay and much worse! He obviously was using a vessel he had absolutely no idea how to manoeuvre. I was refueling at the time and was told by the quay attendant that they get loads buying boats worth up to Β£1 million who have no idea how to handle a boat and don't even bother to get any training! So I fully understand!
  11. I must admit, I would regularly sign the declaration to say I could handle the boat and didn't need a trial run, I was content with a walk through and around the vessel to find out where all the "bits" where located I found the trial run a waste of time as it usually meant slow manoeuvres in a marina, or onto a river with little tidal changes or current and back to drop off the employee (normally at Stalham) I really don't know what you can do to change this as each boatyard is located in different places and none can replicate the issues you would have at the various locations around the broads I really can't see trial runs being of much benefit unless there are a set number of manoeuvres that must be completed to confirm a level of competence which all the hire yards adhere to
  12. Gorgeous photos and a great blog
  13. Do you have an aerial view of the location? Silly to ask I know, but can't wait for us to move! This has been a long time coming, very drawn out and then as quick as a flash we are going!
  14. We would regularly hire that type of boat because we have large dogs and a guardrail / pulpit is difficult for them to duck under, especially when stern moored at low tide I wouldn't like to see these boats requiring to be changed due to a tragic accident We understand the risks when moving around the outside of the boat and take precautions. I have walked down the side of a boat and tripped over the centre cleat before, and luckily I remained on the boat, but I wouldn't advocate removing all centre cleats for example
  15. The takeover time is after 4pm when the maintenance crew have been on board As a syndicate we are content with this all year round and many (like us) will arrive early and enjoy the wonderful village of Horning or other locations MS is equipped with navigation lights and is insured for night travel so it isn't an issue if the members want to remain on MS at the marina or venture out in the evening
  16. To be fair, where I reside the farmers would have just put up some post and wire fencing for their land with the appropriate signage irrespective of what any "outsider" may have deemed to be their property. But it doesnt excuse threats to cause criminal damage to innocent boaters who are using the facilities unbeknown to any dispute All a bit pathetic in my view and the farmer should be extremely ashamed
  17. Fantastic effort Is it possible to video the "wetting" and get it on YouTube?
  18. Thanks Helen Keeps me out of mischief!
  19. Fantastic pictures and holiday blog to date Malcolm We have ventured up to Dilham a few times and really like that run and the Bumble Barn B&B cottages we stayed at last year was owned by the landlord of the Cross Keys and the food and welcome there was first class You will have to send me a version for the website when you get back and I will upload it for you
  20. I am in awe at the work you guys are putting into this wonderful vessel πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
  21. Have a great week πŸ‘ Thats some cruise on day 1! Look forward to reading the rest of your trip Enjoy
  22. Have you been speaking with my Mrs...... πŸ€”πŸ™ƒπŸ₯΄
  23. I really couldn't image our life without a dog being part of it, as I was brought up with dogs and have had one for every year of my life to date They really are a huge part of our family and incidents like this are heart-breaking We were at Beccles when a nearby owners dog fell into the water and was lost even though my son jumped in to try and save it, but sadly it had sunken below the boat and he couldn't get to it. This memory is still very raw and no doubt to the owners also Dog ownership, love of the broads and syndicate ownership all come hand in hand for us and we probably wouldnt have been so keen to do the latter if it wasnt for our desire to give our dogs the very best experiences when in our care
  24. Next to the Flour Bean Cafe is a small footpath and you can just see the roof line of the toilet block at the back of the cafe Walk down this path and they are on your left
  25. An infrastructure that can support mass electric cars, trucks, buses and boats is many years away All the very best to those who wish to be pioneers, but it's not for me at this time as I believe they are not a viable option and certainly not as great for the environment as the glossy adds try to portray...
