  1. Why do all your liquid measurements relate to alcohol? 🤔😄
  2. When you took your bike-related tumble, did you bang your head? Can't imagine what else could explain these weird thoughts you're experiencing. Be careful out there. No, not you MM, everyone else whilst you're pedalling about.
  3. I can spell properly - P-R-O-P-E-R-L-Y. AND I'M NOT ANGRY!!
  4. At least you can eat the pigeons. It could be worse - you might get a set of semaphore flags.
  5. It's a flux capacitor from someone's DeLorean.
  6. I built a similar thing for Sunbird's wipers, using a 555 timer IC. And had to do the diode trick! That stumped me for a while. If you don't know - if you have self parking wipers wired in parallel, as long as any one is still self parking, they all carry on going. In my case all 3 would happily chunder away until they all reached self park at the same time. Could be 30 seconds or more!
  7. Life is what happens while you're making plans. If you want to do something, and can afford it - DO IT. I had 20 years of ownership, and had to give up when I ran out of crew! I look back on 20 years of laughter and sheer freedom when afloat. Can't put a price on that. I thought I'd really miss boating, but I strangely don't. Perhaps I'm just one of those who can transit from one state of life to another without too much angst. The Broads was also losing it's appeal somehow - couldn't say what or how, it just didn't feel right anymore.
  8. Why do you have two wiper switches, could they be paralleled onto one switch?

Well that's cryptic! Are you spies?
  10. They've left out the hose drop opening. Probably to make it all symmetrical to the eye.
  11. Apparently, it's rust on a prop shaft coupling. The shaft has to be built in separate sections, joined by couplings, and that seems to be where problems are occurring.
  12. Easy to say, bit different when it's 8 oafs from a rough estate somewhere, who would welcome a bit of a punch up to liven up their hols!
  13. Being an ex-boater and user of these moorings, I think there may be trouble afoot. Until we know more, there's the scenario of a hire craft not aware of the situation turning up and mooring on someone's booked mooring. Will there be a 24 hour presence to check who's there? Will there be signage at the dyke entrance? All very worrying (although not for me!).
  14. Rene and I had a liver and bacon casserole at Surlingham Ferry a few years back. Had to ask for doggy bag, and it fed us the next day! Enormous portions and never disappointed on quality.
  15. The implosion/explosion of the "official" NBF is neither here nor there. As said, certain actions led to an exodus from there to here, and some erstwhile members to leave forum-land for good. If those with the largest axes to grind can find it in themselves to be the bigger person, and wish Richard a return to health, we as a forum should follow their lead. I wish Richard all the best, whatever his health problems.
  16. Well, this can't last. MM actually achieving success on the DIY front? Next thing we'll be hearing he's going to clean the boat. Whoa!! Mind that flock of flying pigs!
  17. I've been thinking (Oh, no, not twice this decade, I hear you say). Save money and turn your heating thermostat down by 1 degree. That's what the general consensus of the energy conscious tell you. So, how does that work? Let's say you set your 'stat at 21C. When that is reached, your boiler(or whatever) switches off. The temperature falls to 20.8 for example, and the boiler comes back on to raise the temperature back up to 21. The cycle repeats, until you turn it off. So, if you now set the 'stat to 20, the same cycle will occur, but between 19.8 and 20. The boiler runs exactly the same way, using exactly the same amount of fuel . . or does it? The only saving, as far as I can see, is that on start up it won't take as much energy to reach 20 as to reach 21. Where am I missing something? Apart from up top.
  18. Do you have to? I am now having a serious mental wobble, due to the resurrection of my buried memories of school chemistry lessons. It's the one subject that completely scrambled my (limited) brain. Never been right since.
  19. Was there ever? The point of the legislation was to stop insurance companies from charging loyal customers more than new ones for the same cover. That's worked out well, hasn't it? Now the greedy b*****ds rook everyone to maintain their profits.
  20. From Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue service:
  21. I was in the garden yesterday, bit of a North wind blowing. I swear I heard a Yorkshire accent on the air crying "'OW MUCH!!!". Now I understand.
  22. As far as I know, they don't free fall.
  23. I fitted a kitchen type plinth fan heater on Sunbird, that blew hot air at floor level. Might be worth considering, if you have the space.
  24. As soon as you turn a fan heater off there's no more heat to be had. An oil filled rad will gradually cool, giving up some residual heat. Depends what you need it for - fan for quick warm up, but instantly cold, or radiator for slower warm up, but slower cooling down.
