  1. hi eveveryone not long now until my little adventure on the broads. For the last 20 years or so I have hired either house boats or cottages, but before that I used to hire cruisers in the autumn. Does anyone know if there is a company that hires boats out in the winter? Ideally I,m looking for a small craft as I come down by myself for 10 days of pike fishing !
  2. Hi everyone, the clock is ticking till my fishing adventure in January. I know it's early yet but has anyone noticed any changes to the sport since the temperature has fallen ? I'm assuming that the temperature has fallen down there !
  3. Hi Stuart,  thanks for the info.  I stayed at Potter Heigham 2 years ago and the pikiing was very poor., only 2 fish in 10 days !! However there were a lot of otters !!

I did  okay at Neatishead last year,  hope for more of the same.

If you can get yourself up the Ant towards Wayford bridge, that has always been a great stretch, its also very quiet and pretty. Got my PB of 22lbs along there a couple of seasons ago so worth a try.

      Best of luck

  4. Hi there Jenny, in my experience I've found that the pike fishing has declined in the areas that it used to be very good, such as the Thorne systems, and also in the town areas (Wroxham and Horning ). But there is still some very good fishing in the dykes and back waters,  mind you, I only come to the broads in the winter,  so it might be different in the summer.  I agree with you that inexperienced anglers don't help the situation,  but last year in Wroxham I witnessed an "experienced couple of anglers catch a 30 lb plus fish. They kept it in there boat for over 20 minutes while they took their 'glory' photos,  no doubt to send to the angling press to show how good they are !

I think this trophy hunting attitude of angling is part of the problem, pike are superb creatures and should be treated accordingly. I, ll get off my soap box now,  and I am so looking forward to my 10 days bobbing around the broads,  taking in the scenery, the wildlife and the local public houses !!!

Hi Les, thanks for your comments which I entirely agree with. Some 'experienced' anglers are the worst offenders in my opinion! Oulton Broad had a well known 30 which John Wilson caught for a TV film that he was involved with. He was timed, over forty minutes before the fish was returned, never to be seen again.

  5. Hi there, I will be staying at Anglers Cottage,  looks very good on it's Web site, and its got a small slipway so I can launch my dinghy.

Hiya Les,  is that the one just up from the road entrance to Gaye`s staithe?. It rings a bell, and i think my wife and i stayed there 3 years ago. A white place with car paking to the side?. If that IS the one, it certainly is nice, and we did say we`d like to go back there some time. Very roomy, and very comfortable too.

  6. Hi, everyone, been coming to the broads for the last 30 yes, and will be back again in January for 10 days pike fishing. Will be staying near Irstead, just me and my little boat. If anyone has been fishing in this area recently , I, d love to know how it s doing. les.
