  1. Thank you for the tip. however, whisky isn't my tipple so I substituted that for wine in suitable quantities. Sadly the tooth remains broken but I feel a whole lot bettter about it. Carole
  2. I had the misfortune to crack a back tooth last week . On contacting my usual dentist I was told that they were now only carrying out private treatment. Thinking that the priority was to get it sorted I asked how much they would charge to remove the broken piece and they said the charge would be £85.00 which would include x rays and any tablets needed. It obviously neded to be treated so I agreed. I was asked to pay the fee immediately before attending which I did. the dentist had a prod about as they do and announced that it needed specialist care possibly at a private hospital but first I needed a course of antibiotics as an abcess had started to form. I had suspected this . I queried the need for a specialist asking why trhe dentist couldn't just remove the broken piece now and leave the rest of the tooth as it was. He admitted he could but there was a risk it could cause problems in the future. So I asked that if I was prepared to risk thart could he go ahead and take out the broken piece. He said no a special appointment would have to be made incurring a further charge of £109.00. apparently ther £85.00 was simply for the consultation and x rays I have even had to pay for the tablets. I feel ripped off. I spoke to the practice manager pointing out that I had been mislead in to paying the £85.00 but there was no satisfaction to be had. I enquired at my doctor's surgery about obtaining a prescription for antibiotics to be told that doctors no longer prescribe for mouth problems. What a horrible place the world is becoming. Carole
  3. This is not the first time this has happened at this mooring. There was an incident in the late 2000s where some one had been burning off paint in his boat with a blow lamp, went to his car to get his lunch and in his absence his boat went up in flames taking several others with it. We considered ourselves very lucky as only a few weeks before we had enquired looking to have a mooring there but they were full! Carole
  4. This is very sad news and totally unexpected. Condolences to his close friends and family. Carole
  5. Yes, it was already done when we bought her in 2008 and was instrumental in us deciding to do so. She was a very well appointed boat. We were moored on the RGO and when we moved to the Broads in 2010 we quickly realised we were no longer restricted by locks etc and bought a Sheerline1050 which we had until 2020. You will never regret buying a Sheerline. They are by far the best company to deal with. And can be counted on to offer support. They are still looking after us and our Renaissance with the same level of care. Csarole
  6. I think those charges are pretty disgraceful. They will get away with it to some degree with those patrons who are merely there for holiday who, will accept it as part and parcel of their holiday costs especially those who are hiring on the Broads for the first time and will be completely unaware they are being ripped off. Sadly racking up costs like that could deter them from taking a similar hoiliday again so indirectly these sorts of establishments' blatant greed could have an adverse effect on the hire boat industry. 7. Yesterday, we went to the marina to take off the winter cover, reinstate the framework and fit the canopy. It was a bit of a struggle as the wind was much livelier than the forecast had predicted and the winter cover almost took off on a solo flight! as we laid it on the pontoon to fold it. Still we managed it and the canopy is now back in place. The tide looks to be suitable for us to make the trip North on March 31st and the long range weather prediction is sun and cloud not that the weather is crucial on this boat as it was with Hot Gossip 2 whose height meant we had to cross Breydon with the canopy off and the radar mast lowered, a real fun journey in the rain and howling wind - Not!. We sampled the food at the Grey Heron forthe first time, calling in there on our way home for lunch. It was very nice indeed, well cooked, generous portions and very friendly, prompt service. I still find the ambience a bit soulless and the absence of any soft furnishings make it very loud with just a few not particularly noisy people present. Having said all that I would have no hesitation in returning on the back of yesterdays' experience. Carole
  8. Was just browsing L.H. Jones brokerage list and spotted what I am fairly sure is our old Sheerline 950. The change of upholstery, name etc., fooled me at first. It's nice to see her in good order. she is sold , so someone is in for some enjoyable boating. When we owned her she was called Hot Gossip and she is now called Saturday's Child. I wish her new owner joy. Carole
  9. Just the grassy areas, flower beds, patio furniture and roofs showing about 2" of snow here in Cambridgeshire just outside Ely. It lightly snowed/sleeted most of yesterday late afternoon, evening and through the night I think but none settled on paths roads etc. Despite continuing to sleet all morning most of it has now disappeared. Good riddance! Carole
  10. I hope you're right, I find the trip over a bit daunting at the best of times but in weather such as has been mentioned it would be a definite no no. The marina has very kindly given us a little leaway should the weather prove a problem. But having made the decision to relocate I'm anxious to get it done sooner rather than later. Carole
  11. All this talk of imminent snow is very worrying. We're re-locating from NBS Brundall to Ferry marina for the coming season and want ideally to do the trip by the end of March. I don't fancy making it in the sort of weather being predicted . We liked it at NBS very good service helpful staff etc., however we spent the season of 2019 at Ferry and liked it. Plus with the boat we have now we can go to many more places than we could then. Carole

    New Boat!

Oh you lucky people! What a beautiful boat and what a great time to acquire her. You have the whole season stretching out before you. You must be beyond excited and rightly so. Congratulations. Carole
  13. My son-in-law who always observes Lent by giving up wine and chocolate asked my youngest granddaughter aged at the time 9 what she intended to give up for Lent. Phoebe in true Phoebe style replied Lent Dad. Carole

    Balmy

There used to be a boat moored at Hartford marina on the RGO in the late 80s early 90s called Sir Osis of the River. I can't remember what sort of as boat other than to say it was a smallish white cabin cruiser. Carole
  15. Hope all is well Ian and you have no reason to be concerned. Carole
  16. In the 70s I helped run a small building/development company and we used to buy old houses at auction and refurbish them, mostly in the North London area. They were usually completely original having been built in the late nineteenth century and always tenanted. Often the previous occupants had been elderly and there would be a plethora of artefacts of their era to be found especially in the garden shed. We were due to start work on one such property in Edmonton and sent in a couple of labourers and a skip ahead of the main work force to get it cleared out ready for refurbishment work to begin. I received a call from them after they had been working there for most of the morning to say they had found what appeared to be a bomb in the garden shed. I phoned the police who advised that they would be sending in the bomb squad. While they were waiting for them to arrive they sent a constable to stand guard. Our labourers carried on working in the house demolishing what was not going to be salvaged. By this time the bomb had been placed in the middle of the lawn. The bobby instructed them to stop work until the bomb had been disposed of. When they refused, saying their boss couldn't afford to have them standing around idle the bobby went into the garden and placed his helmet over the bomb then went back into the street to resume his vigil. 17. What a happy day it was for both you and Pozzick/Treebeard when you came across each other. You have all had your lives enriched by being together it seems to me. Carole
  18. For anyone interested Howards Way has been having a re- run early afternoons on ITV 3 (channel 10) . P.S. Hooray the little arrow is back to access the top of the page. Carole
  19. While I wouldn't eat undercooked chicken what was served to Tony had the texture and appearance of rigid plastic and parts of it were quite literally inedible. I find it hard to understand how any chef could have allowed that to be served.
  20. i think in this instance incinerated would have been the most appropriate description, certainly it would be the most accurate. Carole
  21. No, there was not the usual enquiry had there been so we would have pointed out the shortcomings immediately as it was very apparent. As my dad used to say, When it's brown it's done, when it's black it's bu***ered! Carole
  22. Yes we did, pointing to the remainder of the cremated chicken when the plate was collected and the response was a friendly smile, apology and a promise to inform the chef. Carole
  23. Went to the boat today just to give her a quick check over to make sure the tube heater we installed a while back had done it's job without racking up a colossal electricity bill. All seems to be o.k. So off to lunch. We went to Horning. The convenient Ferry Inn where we enjoyed an excellent lunch on New Years Day was still closed for refurbishment sadly so against our better judgement we went to the New Inn. If I relate how it was accurately and truthfully I'll incur the attention of the peskies so I'll leave it to your imagination and just add NEVER AGAIN! However to be fair I can say that the service was very friendly. Carole
  24. Felt just the same when Tony and I found ourselves at the wrong funeral last Summer! Carole
  25. Very very frosty here in Cambrideshire, minus 2.4 at 8.45 this morning with thick frost everywhere and showing no sign of melting at the moment. Carole
