  1. Hi Yes you are right it costs me just for mooring, tax and insurance £1500 per year, and it only on the river for max of 6 months, and I do all the work myself but at coming up for 69 it was getting to much so it had to go.
  2. No I was not having a go at the rangers but at higher up the ladder people, and as for the locks ect it will not be my problem as it is sold. there are sadly a lot of wooden boats up for sale on the broads and not many people want them as they take up a lot of time painting and varnishing, Nobody from the broads area was interested in buying her, only a lot of time wasters, Got more response from the Thames and there is more clubs ect for classic boats. I know what the Thames is like as having worked at Penton Hook Marine Derek
  3. Moorehen 1 is now going onto the Thames as in the last few months she has had 1 hit and a few near misses, If you inform the Broads Authority they do not want to know, they are not interested in the old wooden boats, only in collecting taxes on them, they seem to love the hire craft bigger the better The only wooden boats they seem to like are the wherry's, soon all the old varnished and painted boats will either rot or be removed from the broads due to lack of interest by the broads Authority and high costs which do not seem to beneifit the private boater, only the high priests of the Broads Authority It is a shame that this will happen, holiday makers love to see them and take pics of them, I have been involved in boating the last about 43 years and its not getting any better regarding private boaters. So end of an era Derek
  4. 1972 Moores holiday brochure for sale good condition for year £10.00 + postage 1952 The Norfolk Broads holiday book and pocket pilot by Norman R Satchel good condition for year £20.00 + postage

  6. I wasn't sure either, but thought put the link up anyway. Well found JA, clever boat, must have been the smell of wood is why you found it ! Iain Hi
  7. Hi Due to ongoing health problems I have decided to put moorhen 1 up for sale, have had it a few years now (since 1991) Details and photos of the boat can be found in Moores of Wroxham boating section, I think a lot of club members have seen it on the broads over the the years, but it is being used less and less now as family has grown up. And I have fell in 2 times in the last 3 years and not easy to get out when you are skipper and full crew. Regards Derek The price guide is £14,000 Please phone 07783292594 or e mail derek.royall@yahoo.com
  8. Hi again There were only seven Moorhens built for their fleet, mine is the first one it was called avalon at some point then I changed it to original name. One was destroyed by fire a few years ago, One at Dilham under the bridge (Dr Moores), Teroy no 7 was up for sale last year she had a dinnete in instead of two fixed bunks There were two at coxes last saw them out of the water about 6-8 years ago Edward G bear, and jacks old boat which he lived on for a few years .They did build a small amount for other fleets but not 16 and not to the same standards as their own fleet.I am still in touch with the guy who helped to build mine and went on to be yard manager till he retired a few years ago, Moorhen 1 was built for the owners of the yard and not as a hire boat so a bit special, Hirers saw it on the yard and wanted to hire it so more were built, No 1 is the only one with original petrol engine all others have diesels, and also have original cooker, water and petrol tanks and engine service/book. and full owners history from when first onto the broads, The boat is now getting to much for me to handle as have a few health problems and I fell in last year so I may have to look for another person who would be prepared to love the boat as much as I have, and enjoy the broads on a classic boat Derek
  9. Hi Thought I would put a little bit in about my boat, had it since 1991, Its getting an old girl now but still keeps plodding along with its yearly varnish and paint and original engine serviced, she is 68 years old this year same as me but she looks a lot younger than me, I first met her in 1974 when she was called Avalon, and kept in moores wet shed in private hands, while I was working for them and jack powles I have now retired but not using her as much as I would to.but she should be on the Ant or thereabouts 2016 season
