  1. i think a flat fee may be best and easiest to enforce. If we start doing multiple options it could lead to confusion and logistical issues with the team trying to enforce and then redeem correctly against bills.
  2. we would pay the farmer the money he would lose out on by not being able to put private boats on his side c.12k which would enable us to then do whatever we wish with his side. the downside is we have to charge both sides then to pay for his side.
  3. thinking a flat £7/7.50 at mo to hit the rent target of 12k, the previous estimates of 2000 boats at 7.50 would give us 15k and then 12k after tax
  4. i am inclined to think it will be easiest to do a set fee at this point with no redemption so as to appease people whom want just a drink and those who wish to eat. I could see a nightmare scenario of people wanting to redeem against food and then we cant feed them if full or something like that. it would be tough to redeem against just drink as the margin isn't there to make it work financially really yes free during the day until 4pm is the plan
  5. afraid not on those yet, hoping to add a dartboard when we do the other side of pub that is currently closed off and a pool table when arcade is finished, hopefully for 6 weeks holiday
  6. Hi all, I am looking to canvas opinion on how we can proceed with our moorings down at thurne in the near future. Currently we offer free 24hr mooring down the windpump side which is ours and have carried out works to ensure that side is now safe (13k worth), the other side is owned by a local farmer whom charges £4 overnight. By the end of the summer we will need to do a deal with said farmer to keep his side able to accommodate holiday boats and not long term moorings which is his wish (financially worth alot more to him). This deal will mean we have to pay him to keep his side open as such and will set us back around 10-12k a year. So the question I am asking is what sort of fee should be considered for both sides that is fair? £5 overnight £10 overnight with it redeemable against a meal Another figure? We would love to keep it free but unfortunately have had a lot of people abusing that basis already and cant swallow the financial hit. Love to hear anyone's opinions? Rick White Horse & Lion Inn
  7. that side of the pub was condemned during our refurbishment and currently just blocked off until we decide how to proceed. Our current plans would not involve reinstating showers currently due to the cost of doing the work and on going maintenance and cleaning of them. i certainly see a demand in part for such a facility but currently money that we have very little left would be best used elsewhere in the project. rick
  8. 3 gluten free beers available and our own gin & vodka is also gluten free
  9. ye and no, it stoppped alot of boats getting through and the regatta had their own beer tent. we picked up some good local trade though and did really well considering we were only doing a bbq.
  10. quality, pricing and style is all subjective so everyone will have differing opinions and that is fine. my bottom line is that my rent alone is around £200+vat a day so that will always dictate my pricing and i am sure it is the same for most broads pubs. freehouses can buy beer in cheaper but rent/mortgage may be higher than a tied pub that buys beer more expensive but has cheaper rent. swings and roundabouts
  11. you are correct there was only a bbq last night, we are launching the menu today (right now actually)... I am confused why £6 seems ludicrous to you, bun costs 50p, burger 1.20, salad 10p, sauce 5p (1.85 roughly net), after VAT from the £6 we have 4.80 left so make around £3 an item but then have staff to pay to serve/cook it and rent/bills to pay. we will be tweaking the initial menu over the weekend as we see how things go but very nearly there
  12. we looked at it last year but needs knocking down and starting again. i was told it has been bought by someone already that is greek/cypriot/turkish (excuse the vagueness)
  13. thank you for all the kind words and for all those whom popped down this weekend to say hello... it has been a manic 6 weeks but we got there and beer is flowing we will be offering a bbq this weekend fri night, sat day/night and sunday day/night normal food service should start from mondayand we will continue to potter about getting pictures up on wall etc rick
  14. 6pm tonight...drinks only...ignore the bits not painted
  15. yep, farmers side £4 overnight and ours will be free but needs repairing first before it can be used (work ongoing)
  16. i did some early ones, i will do a greatest hits post shortly
  17. dry rot, wet rot, damp and health and safeyy issues galore... working as fast as we can though...you can see updates on our facebook page www.facebook.com/whitehorseneatishead or on the i love the broads facebook group and the norfolk broads boaters group
  18. not yet, we are aiming for 19th may
  19. we are looking at doing something with them for the windmill side of the dyke but it is not a quick process to get sorted. in the meantime we have authorised around 10k worth of repair works to be carried out to make them safe so they can be reopened for the summer
  20. new flooring in restaurant but we are restoring all the original flooring in the bar areas that was hidden under carpet
  21. we are currently on skips 8 and 9 with 10 and 11 coming over today or tommorrow...
  22. one thing to consider and it is often lost in the arguments is that although pub co's do over charge on beer they do enable people who cannot afford to buy their own pub run a business with minimum ingoings and a lower rent than if they were to get a loan or finance for a purchase. as i said the price of a pint is all led by business rates, wages and overheads etc the dog has a business rateable value of 7.75k but due to location and being so low they will pay likely no business rates hopefully that would show why such a variation in pricing across the broads
  23. we are currently 3.50 for ales and keg stuff goes from 3.20 to 3.90... pricing is down to rent, wages and business rates... our business rates go up 20 grand this april along with another living wage increase, supplier increase and interest on a 700k refurb. unless places are ran by a couple and owned outright you probably wont see much under 4 quid after april when it all kicks in i am afraid and prob hitting 5quid a pint on some riverside pubs
