You syndicate folks are dedicated. I admire you giving up your valuable holiday time, I don't think I could do it.
It just feels different when you have so much time on the boat. Also, the longer you are in a syndicate the more ‘ownership’ you feel. Well, maybe I’m generalising there, but that’s how Graham and I feel. I recall on our first few trips how unsure we were of everything. It took us quite a few trips before we really got to know the boat.

We went back to our home mooring in Horning yesterday afternoon.
Today we had a car trip. First we went to the Ellough Industrial Estate, near Worlingham (past Beccles) to try to source a new 3 plug connector for our electrical wire to the canopy from ASAP marine suppliers. Success!
Then we went to Bungay, which is a charming little historic town. Not as prosperous as it used to be, with several old pubs/ shops closed down. However, they did have some lovely independent shops and cafes, including bakeries, fish monger, what looked like quality butchers and greengrocers, art supplies shop, cooking supplies shop (unfortunately closed on Wednesdays) etc.
There’s a ruined castle and two churches, one decommissioned, which was open, and one still in use, which wasn’t.

Nice to see you at Neatishead. Sorry we didn't join you in the pub. I'd made the mistake of cooking a large brunch and we were still stuffed early evening.
Pozzick has a thing about small dogs and puppies, he's a friendly character and just wants to play.

We passed Sam and Graham near St Benet's. Mermaid is looking very smart!

Couldn't post yesterday as we went to Neatishead and I can never get any signal at the staithe, though I did receive a text when we took the dogs along the footpath that runs from opposite the fudge lady's place.
We had a pleasant pootle down the Ant this morning and up to Potter H. We aren't sure whether to stay here overnight or go back to Horning. The original plan had been to go to Horning, as yesterday morning's forecast Wednesday was for high wind. The forecast has changed though to a moderate breeze.

Must visit Dollies this year. Do they do a brown wholemeal loaf as our local Baker spoils us
Roy's do a nice one but we struggle elsewhere
Kindest Regards Marge and Parge
As I visited on a Sunday the selection was fairly limited. They had either white or wholemeal sourdough loaves but I'm sure they probably have a lot more selection during the week as there were several empty shelves.

Another day of not being carried away by Moonlight Shadow. Graham has taken Harry back home.
I had a lovely walk this morning to Ludham Bridge. Grabbed a coffee and cinnamon bun in Dollies bakery, which sustained me for the walk back.

Talk about appropriate What3words.I’ve just looked up my current position on our mooring in Horning, and it came up with perch.senior.alongside. Quite apt.

I’ve been wondering if next week will suddenly become busy.
I suppose I can’t judge what it was like on the northern broads last week, as we spent almost all last week down south, but even on the journey there and back, observing the very small number of boats moored up on the Bure (Cockshoot, St Benets, Boundary Farm, Acle, Stokesby), it appeared that it was very quiet.

In our street people respected the rules. We are lucky enough to have an allotment at the top of our cul de sac. During lockdown this was a lifeline. Walking to and from the allotment we got to know several of our neighbours, at a respectful distance, more than ever before, so there were pluses. I also remember how peaceful it was without airplanes or road traffic.
On the negative side, during the first week of lockdown in March 2020, our next door neighbour Anne was one of the first victims. That coloured our view of Covid for a long time.

Sorry but Tescos greatly reduced the footfall in the high street, before there was an Auction and big ish market on the grounds Tescos occupy. That day of the week the high street was heaving. Every other day it was busier than it is today.
Now people drive to tescos shop and leave . Tesco killed several shops which just couldn't compete.
Well at least the Tesco’s in Stalham is relatively near the high street. In Holyhead, similar sized high street to Stalham, but slightly bigger town overall, Tesco’s and Morrison’s stores have been built on the outskirts, so the high street is effectively dead. Not even a butchers.

Absolutely astonishing the other thing that has struck us is how Unstable and selfish the whole World has become. Since Lock down. We hope that good will, love ,and common sense will return to a potentially beautiful world without greed, idleness and lethargy.
Kindest Regards Marge and Parge
Not the whole world thankfully. The majority are still doing their best in an increasingly confusing world. However, I think most people’s sense of decency remains intact.
We have to remember that, even during the dark days of WW2 there were despicable criminals who took advantage of the situation to make a profit and rip off others.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been increasingly disgusted at how the Princess of Wales has been treated by our media and social media. However, from reading comments posted in response it’s clear that the great British public has rallied around in support of her and her family. When it comes down to it, most people can spot hypocrisy and sheer nastiness a mile off, and most of us don’t like it.

It was windy?
Yes it was, though not as bad as the last visit we made to Southwold in November 2020, when the waves were splashing up surf onto the prom. Visiting Southwold again brought back memories of that week leading up to the second lockdown, when Covid protocols were still very much in place.
It was pretty gusty here in Horning earlier this evening too, with the boat rocking about a bit.

Southwold was lovely, well worth a visit. It was mostly sunny too, though we did dodge a couple of brief showers.
-
Another trip by car today. We are off to Southwold for the day.

How lovely! March is a brilliant time to be on the waters. This week was very quiet, but I expect things will liven up a bit next week.
Do keep an eye out for us on Moonlight Shadow from Monday onwards.

Room on there for both of them.
Indeed, I think we slightly underestimated how large a bed it is!

So, catch up…left St Olaves yesterday after lunch to get through Yarmouth 3’ish. It was after 5 by the time we got to Acle, so although we were aiming for our home mooring in Horning we stopped at Acle instead. I didn’t think it would be good to try mooring up at our home berth whilst light was failing and I was feeling tired.
This morning we set off from Acle early, as I had told the yard that we would be back on our home mooring by yesterday evening. We had an issue with our forward heads. It was leaking, and not leaking from the intake (if you take my meaning) so rather smelly.
We went to Norwich by car today, to give the engineers free access to the boat.
Whilst in Norwich market, Graham spotted a large dog bed for Pozzie, as the one we had bought him was pretty poor. Guess who claimed it…

Just returned from a very pleasant walk from the St Olave's (or as I accidentally posted earlier...St Loaves 🤣) moorings, skirting the Waveney Forest and then returning through the forest.

I regret giving away the fox fur jacket that one of my grandmother's customer's gave me (she was a seamstress and had a few valued customers that had become friends over the years). As Mark said, it was vintage, made long before the current anti fur views became accepted. And it was fox, not mink, so not from a caged animal.

Helen, one of these days I'll summon up the motivation to get out of bed as early as you to beat the tide. I see the benefit but when boating I tend to stick to my normal sleep pattern and put up with the tides.
I don't generally worry too much about tides much on the northern broads, but it can make a huge difference on the Waveney and Yare, more so the further downriver you are.
Yesterday, I had set my revs to take me along at roughly 6mph once I came out of the New Cut. When I passed the turn off for Oulton Broad, I noticed that I gradually lost a bit of speed. By the time I passed North Cove I was almost down to 5mph on the same revs. I checked the tides again, but still had a rising tide behind me.
The plan today is to leave Beccles around 9am aiming to head up north, with a walkies stop on the way, probably St Loaves or Burgh Castle. The earlier we leave, the longer the walk will be. Slack water at Yarmouth is 2.30'ish.

I felt too lazy to cook much this evening. Maybe the early start, reasonably long cruise (though Harry did helm through the New Cut), shopping trip into Beccles and then a decent walk had something to do with it.
We didn’t want to spend much either. Luckily, Lidl isn’t that far away, and their pizzas are decent.

Seeing the weather forecast, we didn’t cruise anywhere today either. The dogs enjoyed a walk this morning at Caister-on-Sea and we just hunkered down this afternoon.
I just hope the strong winds die down before we visit Boulter’s tomorrow morning!
