  1. Well, you did mention it’s what NBN is famed for! We couldn’t let you down, now could we!
  2. Depends what sort of temple you mean. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
  3. You’ll be fine. Also, going across Breydon isn’t at all scary if you are going through Yarmouth at the advised time and make sure you stay within the green and red posts. Bear in mind that a lot of ‘distance charts’ showing travelling times tend to be far too generous. It’s never taken me more than an hour from Stracey Arms to Yarmouth, and that’s with checking that I wasn’t going too fast.
  4. Actually, I don’t eat that much chocolate. Just on special occasions. Then it’s extra special.
  5. Bit early for Halloween! (Not as bad as Jay and Christmas though.) Still, it’s never to early for chocolates.
  6. If by ‘not sure’ you meant you haven’t made your mind up ...fine. If you aren’t sure about coping with the tide there, maybe it would be best to phone the Yacht Station in advance, explain it’s your first time on the Broads and ask them what time they suggest you arrive. The reason I’ve suggested phoning the Yacht Station is that the pre- published tide tables aren’t always right as weather and other factors affect the tide. Also, if they know you are inexperienced they’ll keep an eye out for you hopefully.
  7. I’ve never actually stopped in Yarmouth, but I would imagine that it would be best to arrive there some after the tide has turned (about an hour and a half after low water) so that you can moor up facing into the tide. What do more experienced forum members recommend?
  8. Are you aiming to stop in the Yacht Station day after tomorrow?
  9. Yeh, I know. My post was a bit hypocritical, given my forum name.
  10. I’m shocked! Even I, Mrs Grinch, got a Christmas item in La’Tharms last month. Okay, it was the only a dog toy, and I’m saving it for Christmas Day.
  11. That does make things easier! Thanks. I’m terrible at remembering names and got a bit paranoid just after our first trip on Water Rail in case I’d got your name wrong.
  12. I would have thought the wide open spaces of the south would be ideal. Lots of room for manoeuvre!
  13. Errr, no. ‘‘Twas the bells that did it! Drat, given the plot away now!
  14. Reminds me of one of Dorothy L Sayers murder mystery novels, where a village in the fens gets flooded and all the inhabitants end up together in the church until the flood waters recede. The novel is The Nine Tailors (the tailors being an extended ring of the church’s bells). The victim died up in the belfry.
  15. Womack Dyke, leading:to Womack Staithe might be another option for you. You’ll pass the entrance to the Dyke on your way up to Potter Heigham. It’s an easy walk from the Staithe and the Dyke to Ludham village which has an excellent butchers, a village store and a good pub. You have a choice of side on mooring in the Dyke or stern on at the Staithe further up, and lots of room to turn around if you decide to continue up to Potter anyway. Personally, I prefer Ludham to Potter.
  16. Congrats on your purchase Mr MM. Happy cruising on your new boat.
  17. Recommend the Station Smokehouse, located on the platform of the railway station. It’s a bit of a walk and not cheap but worth it. They also have a takeaway menu. The Thai takeaway has been mentioned as being good, though I’ve not tried it (yet). There’s also a very good Indian (judging by reviews) in Coltishall that will deliver to Wroxham, called Ali Spice.
  18. As Jay said, two on board is plenty. If you moor side on, do so against the tide - the main thing then is for your crew member to secure you bow rope, the tide should then ensure that your stern is pushed onto the mooring. I found this website gives very clear instructions on mooring https://www.mynorfolkbroadsboating.co.uk/mooring up.html and also for leaving the mooring https://www.mynorfolkbroadsboating.co.uk/leaving moorings.html Just make sure that your crew member knows what you want them to do. Even though we’ve been on lots of trips now, I still tell my husband how I’m intending to do and which rope I’d like him to cast off/secure first. Communication is key!
  19. Thanks for the tip. I’ve been pasting the times into the file names, in a similar format that that you’ve used in your example. which is rather laborious, so I’ll search out that Bulk Rename utility that you mention.
  20. Thanks Tim. We are still very cautious about going anywhere, and judging by reviews not all establishments have good Covid precautions.
  21. Why would anyone think that buying an IKEA product from anyone else but IKEA would be a good idea? Their whole philosophy is to try to produce and transport products in the most efficient manner to be able to offer the customer a good deal. (Mind you...as my son works for them we get a good discount...so maybe I’m biased.)

    Hardly Cross..

We noticed a change in the areas that were taped off there toward the end of last week. Previous week there had been just a small area in the middle of the BA section taped off. Last week there were two or three other sections taped off, leaving just small mooring gaps between, so this news doesn’t really surprise me. Hope it’s sorted for next season. It’s a very handy mooring for taking the dog for a run.
  23. I think it probably is Jean. I’ve watched YouTube videos by Foxes Afloat and The Minimal List on the Lancaster canal. Of course they accessed it via the Ribble Link, but once they were there it seemed that there were a lot of boaters making that their home base.
