  1. Does anyone have any info on what Horning looked like when Arthur Ransom wrote ‘The Coot Club? He describes, just downstream of the staithe… The boat-sheds were astern of them, the willow-pattern harbour, The description has always intrigued me.
  2. What a lovely post! Wish more people would take so much pride in their neighbourhood.

    Sunset!!

We might be unlucky Kate, although I’ve not been impressed with what we’ve bought at the Latham’s bakery, there are lots of other members here who love it.

    Sunset!!

Hope the shop is open for the sake of locals.

    Sunset!!

Pub/shop open or closed? Whole lot was closed last winter. Love their choccies.
  6. Get well soon Mark. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't go down with it again before go to the Broads on the 30th. We had our flu jabs on Monday and I felt really rotten yesterday, better than getting flu though. I've heard on the grapevine that this year's flu is a particularly nasty one.

    Brrr!

You should get a reminder from the admin mailbox on 23rd. I've set up all the pre-holiday reminders up for the year in advance.
  8. That’s not a pie! It’s a cheats pie! A personal view, but I’ve always felt cheated if served with a casserole topped with pastry masquerading as a pie.

    Brrr!

Flippin ‘ek Kevin. You almost sent me in a spin then, as I'd been thinking we are on the boat the first two weeks of January (from 30th December). I went back to check our weeks! Enjoy your week. Just do like we do and take low wattage electric heaters, electric underblankets and so on with you and you’ll be toasty. We have left one of our electric heaters on board, it’s generally stored under the sofa and doesn’t use that much electric overnight on shore power on a low setting. When we have the family with us and have two radiators and underblankets going on a very cold night we usually need more than £2 on the shore power post. I must admit our ‘winter gear’ for the boat has expanded over time.
  10. I’m hoping it’s going to be above freezing temperatures the first two weeks of January! If it is freezing or very windy we will stay in our Marina and explore Norfolk and Suffolk by car. Lots of places to visit, so it won’t be a hardship, though I’d prefer to be cruising any day.
  11. I think Pozzick will be fine, whatever the weather throws at us. His coat has got even thicker since he's regained some weight. However, your post has reminded me that it would be a good idea to take Seren's cuddly coat with us this time. She's had it a while and it's hardly been worn, but this trip could be just the time when it's needed.
  12. Congratulations grandad Chris. Baby looks gorgeous. What a lovely Christmas present! Thanks for your reflections over the NHS. I wonder how people cope in Australia (and other countries with mainly private health care) if they can't afford health insurance.
  13. I must admit I was amazed at how calmly he took to his costume. He's certainly laid back!
  14. Sorry, I've been a bit slow in posting these photos/video from the doggy's Christmas party. A fine time was had by all the doggies and most of their humans too. Seren and I won the musical chairs, all doggies managed to get treats during the pass-the-parcel (gravy bones between each layer of wrapping). I was outraged (only kidding) that we only got second place for the fancy dress though - mainly because the dozy judge asked why Pozzick was wearing a dress and Graham didn't explain that he was supposed to be the big bad wolf in grandma's clothes. Peace

Confused here…have you returned or haven’t you?
  16. I’m surprised it fired up. I did have a kindle, but it won’t switch on, probably because I only used it once in a blue moon, which probably knackered the battery. Having kindle on my tablet is handy, except when I want to use it outside when there’s too much reflection on the screen. Sigh…wish my kindle hadn’t died.
  17. Hope you get some serious interest in the boat soon. If finances would allow we’d be queuing up. I certainly think you have your priorities right though. Hope someone will look after me if I last that long.
  18. And mine! We had a bit of an explosion in our house last week. At least it sounded like one. Alec had lit our wood burner, and it went off BOOM! I was in the next room. The glass hadn’t exactly shattered but a big chunk had blown out from near the top of the pane and smaller pieces from near the handle. Thank goodness none of the pieces hit him and the dogs were out with Graham, so weren’t traumatised.

We are looking forward to 30th December when we are next on the Broads, especially now that eldest son Harry has finally got confirmation that he has that week off, so we can have a family New Year together afloat. That’s a first. First time with two dogs too.

Have a wonderful time! By the way, where’s the photo from?
  21. Thanks Jean. It’s taken me a while to catch up with the video. My cousin visited for an extended weekend, so it’s been a bit difficult to keep up!
  22. Looks beautiful. I love the colour of the reeds and trees in the sunshine this time of the year.
  23. So there may be an extra option for dining in future if you moor at Salhouse? The Fur and Feather seems to have gone through quite a few changes in management the past few years and a bit up and down in reviewers opinion. Isn’t competition supposed to be good? I hope it won’t result in both venues being unsustainable.
  24. I think once the lovely bundle arrives the memory of the morning sickness quickly fades. I get the impression from Catherine that she felt the (more than) discomfort was well worth the resulting little bundle of joy.
