  1. Evening folks, quiz night Friday, all welcome in the chat room, no password required (just a name), 6 rounds of 6 questions 36 in total with an interval in the middle to recharge your glasses. Without going into the detail of every round at this stage suffice to say it will be Norfolk and good! I promise everyone the opportunity to win and/oar learn something new. See you at 20:30 sharp’ish Norfolk time.
  2. The website suggests heading east to Reedham in the day boat section as a destination, I guess instructions on the day may vary.
  3. I’m still awake M&P! Agreed liquid engineering (for those of us who can remember the adverts) is the right sauce for the goose. Now, I hope this doesn’t breach the TOS (advance apology otherwise) but can I recommend a good website for tinkers of British cars of yesteryear, “aronline”, I did find a photo of project Utah at the Pleasure Boat Inn on there a while back and what with bmc 1.5’s having been a staple broads boat propulsion lump it could be linked either hydraulically or by wire if appropriate...
  4. Sound advice M&P, the additive is still available, saw someone pouring it into their jag mkII tanks the other day when filling up (with E5 of course, my wife stuck some e10 in her car the other day and it’s been a bit rough on start up since). I am really enjoying this thread. Brings back memories as an infant of my dads Wolseley 1500 and Riley 1.5, think the Riley might have been twin carb but zero seatbelt. The engines outlived the chassis for sure! Later my brother had a few mini’s but he was also a hillman imp fanatic. The pinnacle was the Sunbeam Stilletto. It was Porsche’ish red, and the closest I’ve ever got to driving a Porsche: rear engine, fastback, his other car was a Hillman imp albeit saloon and laid up with rotten rear wings, no sticker to say ‘my other cars a hillman’ though! My wife’s first car was a mini Piccadilly. Metallic gold, great for mascara of rust in the early stages I expect. Good luck with the resto, trust the engine isn’t seized but if it is don’t despair, I found a trickle of diesel in the plug holes soon sorted a seized Volvo engine which had been standing in a boat for several years, full flush and service thereafter before starting of course. Is the BMC badge engineering era responsible for the word ostentatious? I am joking, love the Hornet, Elf, Morris Mini Minor etc.
  5. I don’t suppose it’s in the ether? I have tried googling but if anyone has a link I’d love to see it. If not was it the year when competitors got fogged in, in which case visibility might have been poor anyway (jib stick in cheek...
  6. Welcome and ask away. If it’s any comfort you’ll not always be out of your depth on the broads, at some heads of the navigation you’ll be lucky if the waters above your knees Smee!
  7. I like the west facing beaches north of Newquay up to Trevose, great with an easterly breeze and opposing tide, Atlantic barrels, the waves literally pick you up and blast you back at pace. Norfolk would always be my first choice abode but Cornwall second place for shore. If you like camping recommend Sandra’s site, think it’s fittingly called Atlantic view. Enjoy Mouldy!
  8. And a spare tube, or even two! I use continental tubes & tyres, marathon 4 season or gator skin, still get the occasional puncture once or twice a year usually tube wear though as the strips in the tyre even fend off the dreaded Norfolk flint!
  9. Skeleton crew? Make shore you put T back in the cupboard....
  10. Full results now on the 3rr website, list of cup winners too, albeit everyone’s a winner especially if they made it to the breakfast bar!
  11. YnysMon, you are correct, a protest is a very very rare thing on the broads indeed, especially if the protest is only valid if submitted to the committee in writing on the back of a fifty pound note….
  12. Ignore my previous post folks, there is a second results page with some retired and also one boat that is already, albeit provisionally, placed on the first page so could be awaiting moderation or a protest even!
  13. Everyone’s a finisher judging by the provisional results on fb. White boat first followed by a mash of classes from dinghies to the bigger keels. Optimum conditions for most!
  14. Conditions look favourable for a swift circuit for some but not a gear buster, everyone a finisher I hope. Sunbloc, hat and pocket snacks!
  15. It’s great that some realise their boat ownership dream sooner than they might otherwise have planned, what next then, new avatar in due course, change of name even? Owner that is, not the boat of course. Might I suggest “Boatertov”. I’m jesting! Congratulations and I’m looking forward to anecdotes from a broadsboateye view of the fens, I’ve driven past numerous points where roads meet drains over the years but never taken the opportunity to trial the navigation. Pictures please! Of course not everyone realises the dream as soon as they perhaps can and I’ve had conversations with several who said when I retire’.... always at pains to point out sooner they do it the more they’ll be able to both enjoy it and probably afford it (not being at the complete mercy of the boat yards eg diy). However if they can’t afford ownership I always recommend they hire (so they understand what they may be taking on, or missing...
  16. Maybe the wildlife boat trip from Horsey for a look see. If you like the idea then you could hire a day launch or small cruiser from Martham as it will be a nice gentle introduction to boat handling and moorings are plentiful. If you have the appetite to proceed to the busier side of the Broads then the boatyard will take the cruiser through Potter bridge. Hope you give it a go and enjoy!
  17. Looking at pubs in Horstead on the Norfolkpubs website this might have been the Groves End situated at Marl Staithe. Possibly destroyed by fire in 1941, accidentally or otherwise?!
  18. Put the bunting up this morning somewhat hastily. The weather is holding up nicely here!
  19. Went on a day boat trip today with my bains, a gaggle of nieces & nephews, their/my parents, parents+.... starting at Wayford, cruised down to Thurne Lion, wow what lovely weather. Now, is it just me or is it fact that like butterflies beautiful broads yachts come out earlier than they used to, saw Loyalist on the way out and Waxwing on the way home. Two of Ernest Woods finest! Early April can be pleasantly surprising. Think I saw some NBN members en route and stuck my hand up which was kindly reciprocated, thank you members.
  20. Are you sure you can make it Bucket, isn’t there usually a rally at some seaside town to attend, maybe head down to Yarmouth and take your scooter with you just in case. If the weather takes a turn for the worst I’m sure you’re used to it!
  21. Did a bit of a time and motion study with a contractor on an overgrown communal garden and joked that perhaps we should consider an Allen Scythe. He didn’t laugh but carried on saying it would be the best thing for the job but they’d stopped using them years ago because of H&S rules. I see the modern equivalent is still available and I guess with balloon tyres is what’s needed for reed cutting etc.
  22. “The car in front, is a Vauxhall Frontera”... except it was, only for a while, because it was unreliable, and then broken down at the side of the road, with traffic passing. Vauxhall ecu’s don’t seem to be mounted in the best location, I’m on my second one and from a different model and I wonder how many have gone to the scrapyard in the sky because the dealer Ecu replacement cost sends it there.
  23. Why is the grant cycle out of sync with annual financial budgeting. Or is it a matter of poor communication between PSB’s? If so why?
  24. When I lived in the big smoke (Norwich) and I first got a DAB radio it was amazing, loads of channels, Future community radio etc. Traffic news was great to get the full picture of roadworks nationwide. Then moved to a valley behind Cromer ridge; no go and back in the box for a few years. Moved to North Walsham, tried again, hopeless but then read that the infrastructure was being upgraded to improve the signal. If it has happened it didn’t make any difference when I got it out of the box recently. TBH I don’t mind a bit of hiss or noises that sound like space beings trying to make contact, I’ll stick with analogue!
  25. Interesting. So, over the summer repairs at night. How does that bode for 3rr competitors who don’t transit in daylight?
