  1. Is it entirely down to the BA if there is going to be a charge? As I mentioned earlier, we tend to be daytime visitors for a breakfast in the cafe, walk to the church (with a donation to walk up the tower) a visit to the shop for an ice cream. a charge for daytime mooring might just put me off. I wonder what the views of the local businesses are?
  2. Just to play devils advocate, when we hire, we tend to moor at Ranworth through the day so that we can take a walk up to the church but we tend not to stay the night, likewise when we travel north to south we tend to skip past Reedham and head up towards Brundall, I appreciate we are probably the exception rather than the norm.
  3. Thank you for the info, is this the 24 hour mooring? Just on the off chance that I get lucky!
  4. Thank you! I will have a look, our next hire is at Easter, so we might get lucky.
  5. It doesn't seem unreasonable to charge a mooring fee on a private mooring as long as there is a refund against a meal. I have to admit that I have never actually moored in Horning. Is there even a Broads Authority free mooring there?
  6. Not certain, but it looks as though there are runners on the coachroof in front of the windscreen, so my guess is that the bottom slides forward and it lays flat on the coachroof.
  7. This is why I love this forum, such a wealth of information! Thank you everyone!
  8. Hi All, pretty much every time we visit the broads, we have visited Ranworth and taken a trip up the church tower to see the view from the top. It is unique as far as I know in that you are allowed up the tower. Are there any other churches on the broads that allow access to the tower or are particularly worth a visit? thanks David
  9. Nice idea for a thread, I know of one… Two new Platinum Light at Herbert Woods cheers David
  10. We are also booked for early April this year, I suspect it may be the same week. Getting south is easy, but coming back north is a bit more restrictive.
  11. And the lottery numbers?
  12. Probably around Easter, we are a bit restricted by school holidays, so daylight might be a bit limited and want to jus see if one week will work better than another, if that makes sense.
  13. This is the one I was looking at, unfortunately it only goes to the end of 2023…
  14. Hi All, I know we have only just started 2023, but I was looking at dates for a 2024 Broads holiday and wanted to look at the tides to help me decide when to book so that we can include a trip north to south. Unfortunately, the on line tide table that I normally use, showing LW Gt. Yarmouth and the slack water passage time, only goes to the end of 2023. Does anyone know of an online tide table for the broads that goes in to 2024? Thanks, David
  15. We stopped this April, for as long as it took us to run to asda and back (and I do mean run!) certainly no more than an hour, but they did charge us for the privilege.
  16. I am probably over thinking it! I should have added that I have done the trip several times before. Getting under the bridges is always the deciding factor. I am always aware of the water gushing out of the Bure and how long it takes for the incoming tide to overcome that flow, but I had never really thought about what is happening in The Yare, hence the question.
  17. Hi All, I was looking at passage times for heading through Gt.Yarmouth from North to South and then back again. I have always understood that the slack water time 1 hour after low water is the best time to pass through the yacht station because that is roughly when the incoming tide starts to flow up the Bure, but does the tidal flow in the Yare and Breydon Water change at about the same time or is it closer to low water? Thanks! David
  18. Similar situation for camping / caravanning, we have lower wattage kettle / toaster / hair dryer that we keep in the caravan, they take slightly longer, but less likely to overload the electrics on the camp site. If I owned my own boat, I would probably do the same thing.
  19. Do Richardsons still own that yard?
  20. I know, Silverline at Brundall were always on my “To Do” list, guess that won't happen now. We actually had a Silverline boat booked before Covid but had to cancel it.
  21. Hi All, Mods, please feel free to delete if this post is not allowed… I have just seen an announcement on the Silverline FB page that they have secured an order to build boats for Richardsons and that their entire hire fleet will be transferred to Stalham. It's exciting to see some new boats in the Richardsons fleet but sad to be losing another hire base from the southern rivers. David
  22. I agree, I really like the seat, but the first hire boat I remember is Seafarer 3 from Brooms with my parents and grand parents so it reminds me of that. Personally I really don't like the sloped forward roof of the modern Alpha moulds, it looks nice, but seriously reduces the headroom in the forward cabin and there is nowhere to sit comfortably at the bow.
  23. This next trip will be our 4th and we will be sailing from Gouvia on Corfu, the flotilla lead crew decide where we are going but usually there will be 3 or 4 hours easy sailing each day between Corfu, Paxos and the Greek mainland. It's lovely and very well organised.
  24. I can recommend “Sailing Holidays Ltd” when you finally get round to it, a real family run company.
  25. I forgot to mention that Actual cruises rather than smaller boats. If money was no object a round the world cruise would be interesting. I hope you have a wonderful time Andy, my experience of cruise holidays have all been a great way to see different places. My advice would be to book any excursions that you really want to do in advance and read the daily newspaper so that you know what is happening on the ship each day so that you can plan the on board entertainment.
