  1. Oh the joy of youth 2 shillings and sixpence aka 2 bob and a tanner 25p to you
  2. Whenever I am unlucky enough to find myself encumbered by cash my wife kindly relieves me of it for boot fairs and charity shops. Indeed I haven't really been closely associated with cash for over 40 years... I'm told the half-crown is no longer in circulation?
  3. Do tell.. I absolutely love Italian food, what's the recipe please? :)
  4. There's always more than initially meets the eye with boats isn't there! I'm going with the thermostatic bar shower this time, it's relatively cheap and a simple DIY job that solves the current problem. Of course, now I know that there's an alternative it will probably go on my 'oneday' list :)
  5. Eggs and baskets, more than one account can be very handy, no need to keep much in them, but useful when computer says no
  6. Many thanks, I think the anti scald units are very good... the hot water temperature is a bit scary!
  7. I'm going to replace my shower mixer valve with an anti scald one. Most seem to say they need at least 1 bar. Is it safe to assume that I have that or near enough that if there is already a working shower? Pressure at the taps seems strong, there is one of those flow regulator things and I believe the water system was replaced and uprated an owner or two ago.. SS tank etc.

I think you may be right! Now I'm older I've cancelled it in case the temptation gets too much lol
  9. The weather is set fair, have a great time and Bon Voyage
  10. I predict a long thread....
  11. Rights and responsibilities.. it's our right to have pets, it's our responsibility to care for them, clean up after them and not let anything about them impact negatively on others.

Hi Kev, thanks for asking, she is doing quite well generally although not the dog she was. But most importantly she is OK on the boat. I bought a wooden dog ramp which extends by sliding the middle out for different heights of mooring, made a few modifications to give her confidence and stop her falling off the sides and she uses it bless, quite a leap of faith when you think about it!

Lovely overnight wild mooring on Womack. This morning a boat passed us with enough speed to pull our forward rhond anchor out, The stern held leaving us swung out blocking half the river. No damage to boat, rhond anchor securing ring opened up! Hey ho, didn't get boat name or number so just moving on and putting it down to "one of those things"

It's working OK, less water came through the wells than I expected.. rather than silent running

Lying here in my bunk, enjoying being cool after the heat yesterday. Relaxing to the sound of rain on the roof, dozing on and off, when suddenly I have a thought! It's been raining a couple of hours... Why haven't I heard the bilge pump! Time to get up and have a look!

I love it too, only been on a boat once during lightning, sometime in the 80s. My young wife (as she still is in my eyes of course) sat inside, life jacket as tight as it would go and handbag clutched even tighter LOL

I guess that in case of a near by strike into the water it would be a good idea to have some chips ready

Plenty of info and common sense available about what to do (and not do) during a thunderstorm. But I can find no specific advice for those afloat, particularly in something like a motor cruiser on the Norfolk Broads. As our boats tend to be on tree lined rivers or open Broads there doesn't seem to be an ideal course of action As storms are forecast does anyone have experience and or advice on the subject?

Good point! The EDP are terrible, I should have taken that into account!

Clearly a waste of valuable resources BUT it was a judgement call by the boat that called for help that under other circumstances could have saved a young man's life! The press have a little more detail and alcohol was a factor in the accident. Under completely different circumstances I once called the Coastguard to the beach where I live. It was a 100% waste of time but they could see how the situation looked from my viewpoint and thanked me for calling and told me not to let it make me hesitate to call in the future. Glad everyone was OK
  21. I once heard them described as Gentlemen's Special Interest Magazines lol Sounds more English than "nice cup of tea"
  22. I would add Broadland Vets at the top of Stalham High Street. I've taken my dogs there and on one occasion they kindly took in wildlife I found in need of urgent help.
  23. I should have clarified, adding the link to Useful Information would be something only forum admins/mods can do.
  24. Nice one.. I count myself as another soppy git
