  1. Money left on the post I guess, either that or as you said originally "I wonder how long it will be before that's policed properly." πŸ‘
  2. Assuming those posts are the same as the ones in their private moorings you have to "load" them using a card. The boats you saw either had cards from Woods already or were using money left on the post by previous visitors. If those posts are not on the same system... ignore the above πŸ™‚
  3. I have never used the power poinst on a public mooring (yet) but the splitter to share a post sounds like a very good idea πŸ‘
  4. It looks very inviting too, hopefully more will make it's way down to us! πŸ™‚
  5. Would it be possible or practicle to train up a team of handover instructors? In the same way cleaners are hired for changeover days maybe living around rivers are enough retired and experienced people who could supplement their income and enjoy being involved. On the face of it I realise it doesn't sound very practicle but even though it will increase costs a little it could be made to work and it could prove popular with hirers. It would increase the time available for handover instruction and the possible decrease in accident damage and increase in reputation would mitigate some of the cost. I should add this is just "thinking out loud" I know nothing about running a boat yard or business (obviously πŸ™‚)
  6. I didn't know that! Which one?
  7. Raise the bridges... nice civil engineering project! Infrastructure spending! Jobs! Make Yarmouth great again! # MYGA 😁
  8. https://aina.org.uk/ "AINA is the industry membership body in Great Britain for organisations with statutory or other legal responsibility for the management, maintenance and operation of navigable inland waterways for navigation. Collectively, we regard such bodies as β€˜Inland Navigation Authorities’. In discharging their duties, navigation authorities deliver widespread public benefits."
  9. How important are dual controls really? A week or 2 on hire, you could try an alternative layout boat next time. By the time you've decided (and are lucky enough) to own your own boat you have an idea of what style you prefer. Of course, if you are like me (and a few others here 😁) you can enjoy a boat (or 3 πŸ˜‚) and change until you find "the one" Dual steer strikes me as a gimmick, although the weather is a factor in it's favour it's possible with any style of boat to cruise comfortably in most conditions!
  10. I have a safety concern about probably the best practice to avoid drowning and yet noticeably the least well observed. Life jackets! I am a good case in point. Mine is within easy reach of the helm as are my crew's and my dog's but they are very rarely worn. There is a strange compulsion to believe other people should wear them but I'm always careful so it's OK. I am in fact, the sort of person that I would call a fool... I am also a non swimmer! Is there an argument for an actual law requiring the use life jackets? No doubt it would be unpopular but would eventually catch on with the occasional shout of "life jacket" from Rangers. Just as we perhaps resisted compulsory car seat belts at first but now wouldn't dream of driving without one.

    New Boat

Lovely looking craft πŸ‘ Congratulations πŸ₯‚
  12. She's a real beauty! Congratulations to you both and wishing you many happy voyages πŸ₯‚
  13. An improvement hopefully....
  14. Do you pick her up from anywhere near your new moorings? Asking for a nosey friend πŸ˜‚
  15. I love crossing Breydon, especially if there's some actual waves πŸ˜‚ A hundred tacking yachts on The Ant.... not so much 😁
  16. It's a wonderful event.... do the yards advise hirers I wonder? A great thing to see if you're on holiday but maybe a bit nerve wracking for first timers at the helm!
  17. That would be very nice to have, their prices are competitive to start with πŸ‘
  18. Β£69.99 + p&p from Pirate Cave Chandlery, online. 8 size 1 fenders and 8 free fender lines with pre made eyes. Happy with that πŸ‘
  19. That fits with the fact that our pulpit rail is on the salon roof. I understand this is because if it was fitted "normally" it could sustain damage from lock gates. I'm told she was in an Irish hire fleet originally.
  20. Sorry for your loss Carole, in every way a member of the family and who will always be kept alive in your hearts and memories.
  21. The current set came with the boat plus 2 loose ones in the locker to tie on ad hoc and a huge one towed in the water to protect the the swim platform (that was half white and half oil!) I think just replacing the sausages and keeping the 2 blue balls may be the way to go.
  22. That looks impressive! Thank you πŸ‘
  23. Good point, oddly our fender cleats are below the strake. In your photo Norfolk Lady looks very well protected πŸ‘
  24. Now that you mention it I think I saw an ad for buy 4, get a 5th free a while ago! Thanks for that! πŸ‘
  25. Any recommendations for an effective fender cleaner? Have just priced up a full new set and it seems a lot purely to look nice when the old ones are perfectly functional. She has 8 standard, 4 ball and a bow fender... £😱
