Stupid question from a stupid person, so be gentle with me please :default_biggrin:

We need to pass from N to S on Wednesday 14th October, on Waveney Pegasus which is probably about 8ft 6in (or so) air draft. I understand Slack Water is the best/easiest time to pass through with the tides...

But, we think we need to cross a little bit earlier than 1550 slack water. Will the bridge clearances at 1450 be the same height as slack? We're just worried about crossing at 1550 with a 1800 sunset, and not making the first moorings after Breydon

Still trying to fathom what this has to do with my post????

  2. Hello again folks

I am an old hand on the holiday cruisers but on this occasion cannot make my mind up when is best to make the trip from North to South and back. An age thing me thinks!

It may be you say don't bother but I have to ask.

Starting from Wroxham we want to at some point spend 5 or 6 nights on the Southern Broads without a stop at Yarmouth. We have 2 small dogs, a stupid Pug and a frisky Mini-Schnauzer, so at low water getting on and off can be a hardship for my old body and it ain't the place for any of us going overboard. The only other stipulation is we want to be back at BBC Wroxham for the Friday night.

The experienced amongst you will, I hope, give me the benefit of that vast experience.

The boat is Brinks Serenade so relatively new and I am hoping having the power to cope with most things and the following table is I think near enough to assist.

    Cheers

  3. Very glad to see people are still enjoying my trip down memory lane.

Great to hear from someone who went on to own a Broadwave. Did it remain as original when you bought it Beardshave?

Your route charlesa must have been the best as it is the route we used for years once we got motorised. A 150cc Lambretta was our first to pick up Sea Zephyr from Wards at Thorpe. The trip home was an experience as the seat got very hard with no adrenaline to make the trip exciting .

We still tend to take variations of it now. In a few weeks we will be going via Stoke onto Rutland Water for lunch and then Kings Lynn and onward. May try getting off the A47 at Kings Lynn and pick up the B1145 for a change.

    Take care all

  4. Hello folks

Watched "New name Same me" video yesterday regarding "A windy day at Potter Heigham" and it was interesting that an electric dayboat returned to said company by the bridge and was assisted in by one of staff. A few minutes later another family boarded without the boat getting so much as a quick wipe down!

I hope more care is being taken with the holiday cruisers at other yards.

    Take care out there.

  5. Hi there

Wondering if anybody else is getting these messages: "We have detected 3 failed log in attempts to your account from Coventry, Coventry, CV3, United Kingdom.

If this wasn't you, someone else may be trying to access your account. These log in attempts were unsuccessful. You may however want to change your password for greater security, especially if you use the same password on other websites.

If this was you, you can safely ignore this email and you will be able to sign in again at 06/08/20 13:26. "

Had this twice in last week or so and my account frozen for a short time. Changed my password to a computer generated which is great but I don't know it!!!

Is it time to close my account?

  6. Fantastic. Called them on that number.

Glad to hear the pubs are coping well and hoping they all get through this mess. Read the reviews on the Cross Keys at Dilham and nice to see them giving better than they got. There are some s**t heads about!

Still working on a face mask with an air tight straw fitted. Will need to be 15mm diameter me thinks!!

    Thank you all

  7. Hello Folks

Just a line to find out if the New Inn has opened?

Tried the email given on Trip Adviser but it bounced back. Holidaying, again, on the broads in September and we always moor there at some point.

    Take care

  8. Hi Vanessan

While dining it seems we had a little drizzle, of rain that is, which was next to nothing but enough to make the timber edging very slippy indeed. I stepped onto it trying to put the dogs down safely and my right foot went from under me as my left leg was making the next step.

Could have been worse I suppose but I certainly don't want another broken rib! (or 2 or 3) Coughing is a killer!!

Thank goodness for the comfy car we have to get us the 250 miles home.

    Thanks

  9. Just to let you all know we collected Silver Serenade from Brundall on the 6th April and cruised up river to Bramerton and moored at the common. Very nice boat for us.

Took the dogs for a run and when I returned I was ordered to tune the TV.

Surprise Surprise. Good picture within seconds.

That was the good news. We had evening meal on board feasting on a ready cooked chicken from Lidl and after I decided to take the dogs for another walk. Put their life jackets on so I could carry them off together like handbags, a Mini Schnauzer and a Pug, and stepped onto the timber edged bank, my right foot went from under me, as I was bent over the dogs dropped on dry land , my left leg went between the boat and bank into the water and I crashed down onto my left side on to the gunnels. Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or something similar.

The following pain meant there was no escape from The Voice so I drowned my sorrows and tried to numb the pain on board.

Next morning I could hardly move and the pain was immense so we returned home. A long no stops journey.

Doc found a couple or three cracked ribs. That hurt !  So it has been pain killers and no drink along with too much rest.

The second boating holiday on the trot abandoned and this one after only 16 hours and to add to the misery my annual insurance policy ran out in February. There is a lesson there.

    Take care out there

  10. Hello Folks

Please help settle a disagreement, shall we say.

We returned from our wonderful holiday at Box End cottage last Sunday and whilst there I asked Caro, the owner, l about the pronunciation of River Bure.

This is all Robins fault. I was perfectly happy with my own pronunciation from 1965 of "Burr" and then Robin comes up with Bure as in "pure".

Carol, whoo has lived in Horning over 20 years confirmed Robins pronunciation.

A few days later following a meal at the Ferry we were chatting about the days when the "ferry" ran across the river so I looked up its history only to find this:

"Horning is situated on the River Bure (pronounced locally "Burr") between Wroxham and Ludham. A ferry plied across the river for more than 1,000 years."

Anymore views on this before moving on to St Olaves?

If you felt like I do about the programme you would be grateful for no signal.   You are supposed to be on holiday on The Broads.

Quite frankly I would rather stick pins in my eyes than watch it,   all that screeching.   Supposed to be singing!!!   Just my opinion.

That is why I need the pub!!!

Brammerton iffy really? I've always found it very good If I remember correctly.

I have to confess I don't watch much tv on the boat however so you may well be correct. I didn't mention Hardley Mill or a few others as I was under the impression a pub was preferred

The art of conversation?? Hmmmm!! Sounds interesting.

We just play bones, have a laugh, get annoyed, drink and sleep!
