Well I'd say base the yard at Potter as you can get everywhere easily from there and there is a ready supply of quart on hand.
The fleet would be mini subs with stealth capability.
The Yard could be called "Broads revival"
The object would be to hire out the subs FOC to anyone who can sink at least 20 plastics a day.
Laugh I almost cried!

Hello all and one
Does anyone out there have by any chance for a small fee, have any space to keep a smallish boat on a trailer under cover and reasonably secure?
I know boats are used to getting wet but I'd prefer mine to only get wet when in the river!
Any info or ideas would be gratefully received. So said the etc etc.

Well I never. So it is me and commuters or even computers. Yes a pitch pine painted hull, that was the normal Brooke way which made sense I suppose, only use mahogany if it's going to be seen.
She looks like she will be a lovely boat when finished but 'm not allowed any more!

Hi Jenny,
Yes that looks like a 20 foot launch from 20s-30s Brooke made several of these. They were power by the famous Brooke Empire 10D 4 cylinder with reverse gear. Brooke made thousands of these engines and they were sold as a kit to fit in other makers boats as well as their own. The 16 foot which Rupert is is actually a scaled down version of tis boat in your lovely picture.

Another name that came up was Wellby and Wheeler Co. Ltd
This name was stamped on a plate attached to the tapet cover on the Brooke 5hp Dominion engine that was fitted in Rupert when we bought her. We traced back to a previous owner who purchased Rupert in a sale at Bedford. We think what had happened was that a well know boat seller from Peterborough named Mr Jackson had purchased her together with several unknown other boats from Wroxham and taken them back home to Peterborough to sell them off. We know Rupert was owned by a Mr Littleboy of Wroxham who bought her from Broads Tours. We think it might have been his personal "Toy"?
If anyone knows of any of them please let us know?

No probably not. Mine reputedly hired out boats on Oulton Broad but not sure when or whereabouts.

The other was Kim, which we thought of as larger as she had greater seating capacity but that was perhaps largely due to Skippers long covered bow and they may well have been very similar in size. A fourth was called Gypsy but I don't remember her much, certainly we never hired her. It was suggested on another forum that Kim was the owners private launch but we hired her many times. I wonder if the memory is mixed slightly and that Gypsy belonged to the owner. Certainly Kim was dads favourite as she allowed him more room for fishing, whilst I always preferred Skipper for her elegant lines. I am looking at the photos of Rupert with more than a tinge of emerald envy in my eyes. She's very handsome.
I have no real reason to believe that Skipper or Kim were Brooke's other than the fact that they were, I know sourced from Lowestoft, and the possibility of them having come to the yard as kits makes even more sense. Jock I believe was an ex RN open sea boat.

Well thanks all for all the replies and interest. To answer the question about hire boats on Oulton Broad I think this was where one of the first 16 foot launches ended up. There were 13 16 footers which were scalled down versions of the 20 foot. Originally they had 10hp Brooke Empire engines and reportedly could reach 18 knots.
Unfortunately there are only three of these left that we know of but they should all be at Barton in September!
Will you be bringing your 18 footer Clive?

Hi all,
1st timer here who just want's to say hi and to tell you all that I'm mad about wooden boats, particularly Brooke boats!
On that note there is a meeting/Rally planed for late September on Barton Broad. Anyone interested please get in touch.
