  1. Comes with a nice view; you can see all the way to the horizon.
  2. Thank you MT, I'm going to have that printed onto a T-shirt, no, on second thoughts, a winter fleece, for Mrs Raser!
  3. Your boat has replacement hips? My late father in law had three replacement hips.
  4. At the risk of sounding a bit daft (which has never been a barrier anyway!) have you looked for the phone number? Round here, when the numbers went to 6 digits they just added two numbers on the front and they are still the same today.
  5. I can't remember exactly but I think it was the bloke who delivered our first "new" cooker in November 2022 who commented on our old conventional boiler. He recommended that I should change it if not for a combi, for a new conventional type with electronic ignition instead of a pilot light, to save gas. Glad I didn't in light of the above but if I did I think we worked out that I would have live another 50 years to be in profit!
  6. It may not happen often but here's someting to beware of if you need to buy a new cooker. With the best will in the World Hotpoint Cannon have tried to update their cookers to fit in with modern ideas of saving gas/climate change etc. but it's faltered slightly. We had an old Cannon cooker for donkey's years until it failed in 2022. As we were approaching retirement we thought we would have a decent new one as it would (should!) be our last. So we replaced it with the updated Cannon model which replaced ours, in November 2022. Next Sunday 24.01.2024 Curry's are delivering a new Beko cooker and our "new" one has been written off by curry's and Cannon as scrap! And I mean scrap; I am free to do what I want with it. Luckily we had the 5 year careplan as it packed up after 13 months so we have had all but £15 of all our money back including the delivery and fitting charges. In the Ts and Cs it says if they can't repair it we get a replacement. The replacement is an e-gift card for the value. The problem is with the new electronic flame failure device, or gas safe device. It's a bit like the eco function of a car where the engine stops and restarts automatically at junctions etc. When you turn on the main oven there is no spring to overcome, you don't have to press the **** in, just twist. A light comes on and there's a clicking to light the gas. When the oven get's to temperature it just switches off completely until it cools, then re-lights automatically all through the cooking cycle. But it doesn't. After a while they fail and your cooking stops part way through. It's either bad design or they haven't tested the system enough before putting it out on the market. When the engineer came out he went straight to the problem and told us what it was, then said they would order the parts. After 7 days I rang and they said it would be written off. I understand it's a common problem with Hotpoint Cannon models and some Rangemaster models. Our new Beko is conventional! When I went back to Curry's to buy the new one I asked if it had an electronic flame failure device, he looked blank! So much for their adverts where girls have beards of wisdom and they all eat the instruction manuals! Maybe I should have asked him in Japanese!
  7. I just did a quick google search and found a website under construction at https://www.broads-reform.org/ I heard they had the intention, let's hope it's up and running soon.
  8. I think it's there somewhere. By the nature of it, there has to be stuff going on behind the scenes but the committee do report every so often what is being done.
  9. No, Peter Waller is NOT the main driving forces behind that organisation. Let's perfectly clear, that is an easy assumption to make. He and anyone else of similar experience have open access to contribute their opinion. Colin Chet is the main driving force along with others and Peter is just the moderator of the webpage. He has in the past, had to be pulled up by Colin for allowing thread drifts on there! I have been watching BRAG from the start and Peter's early contributions were surprising. He was actually expressing himself in a very dignified manner, in a constructive way and passing on the benefit of his vast experience. I thought he's either learned from his experience on this forum or had a bang on the head but I say well done; I wondered if it was the same person! Peter was mentioned because he was the one who started this thread, no other reason. I don't doubt his ambition or where his heart is, it's just the way he expressed himself on this forum which has been, let's just say, not quite as effective as it could have been, and leave it at that. I should also add that I have actually met the man and shook his hand. It was when he came to the Denham Owl to collect the mains fridge I gave him for his daughter to use when she was a medical student. While all you old boys should be listened to for the benefit of past expeiences, the future of the Broads should be in the hands of those who live there and those of working age who have a future there. Not even me, as someone who pays for moorings and tolls; I can just upsticks and leave whenever I please. Every so often we have a vote to find out if we want our village to become a town. While the good people of Norfolk are entitled to an opinion as to whether that should happen, I would be pretty hacked off if they had a vote. Edit: BRAG do not discuss the Nation Park issue as they say it would be a distraction. One thing at a time, remove JP first.
  10. Well Vaughan, we'll have to disagree on that one; I think mine was a fair comment. I came here in 2018 as a new member and was constantly leaned on to say and think in a certain way, and told who I should respect, but not why. Like it was some kind of Old Boys Club. JM was as you say passionate about the subject but to the point of obsession. The evidence is there in the archives: every week a national park thread, constant bumping up of threads to keep them going, automatic "liking" of one's mate's posts. As I said before, it's just a forum and some people attach far too much importance to the content. Just because he's an old mate of yours doesn't put him above criticism for going public with his views.
  11. Yep, it's truly a forum alright. That reads like I believe my ideals are the right ones. Not so. I just pointed out that whoever is making the decisions are doing a good job and I like what they are doing. If I didn't, I would go elsewhere. But It's a forum so you are free to interpret a view in a certain way so as to punctuate your own.
  12. Because people like you and I Fred, keep hitting the keyboard. It's just a harmless forum. This thread started as one of Jenny Morgan's weekly "lets keep the national park in the top of the top ten threads" actions. His legacy is still with us obviously.
  13. It would seem that some people are so single minded about this National Park debate that they just don't want to hear anything about a National Park that is actually successful. The point I'm trying to make is that the success is down to those who embrace the idea and make it work, even with ups and downs. If the Broads could find a way, and find a trusted body to administer it.... It's a shame it can't be seen as a golden opportunity for the right reasons. It could be done for the future and with every respect for the past, it just needs work and some flexible ideas.
  14. Yes, businesses were given 5 years to adapt, so why were there boat sales businesses there still selling fast boats way after that date? Probably as a protest but still no surprise if they went. The guardians of the Lakes are doing a good job of avoiding the fate of places like Newquay, Cornwall. It's where my youngest son did his courting/partying in the 90s. He finds it depressing now to see all the same venues still there, boarded up. Boom and bust. I was up in the Lake District from Monday to Thursday last week. The hotel was as busy as I've ever seen it. We still had to queue for the buses which soon filled up. In early January. The Lakes are about the beauty of the place. Plenty of old quarries about to have a venue for fast boats and jetskis. How about a few pot plant festooned narrowboats on Windermere? I'm sure someone could argue a right to live on one, affordable housing for the poor and all that. See what that would do for tourism!
  15. Quoted from the renewal email: You have been with us for a number of years. You may be able to get the insurance cover you want at a better price if you shop around. Thanks, I will, before calling you to discuss. It'll only be worth keeping the car if it's cheap enough.
  16. Thankfully, the hornet's nest you just poked is not as big as it used to be when this thread started. There seems to be varying opinions depending on a variety of things. Sandford seems to have written the 11th commandment; nobody has ever suggested his principle may be out of date, or could ever be out of date, it's just there and has to be applied. Why it can't be re-assessed in the light of modern attitudes and climate change etc is beyond me. There was also talk of someone doing something like that I think, was it Danford? Anyway BRAG have subdued a lot of the discussion by coming along and applying some common sense. Within their posts was what I thought to be a very good question indeed, something like: Is it that you don't want a National Park or is that you don't trust those who would be in charge of the administration of it?
  17. I past it on my way home yesterday. Yep, plenty of expensive boats.
  18. Corsa insurance renewal notice just in: last year £160.75 this year £320.51. I reckon someone just couldn't be bothered to think about it, "Ah just double it and see if the idiot pays up". Nope. Retired now so don't need two cars. They'll probably end up with 100% of nowt and I'll have to do that silly dance after selling the car to wbac dot com!
  19. If insurance prices go up because of large event causing a massive payout, then the insurance business carries no risk and that's the business to be in. But they are supposed to be covering our risk for us so by raising prices for the reason mentioned, surely we are insureing THEM?
  20. All correct but if they did that the results would be so accurate that there would be little scope to be creative with the interpretation. The way the BA operate has been challenged; is there any sign of a reply to that letter yet?
  21. From the evidence presented on this forum especially by one Mr Nog, I think it's safe to assume that the more time you spend in pubs, the less water you need on the boat. Have I got that right?
  22. That's the only problem with what3words, the satellite view seems way out of date. Still very useful though.
  23. On what3words: ///swing.tripled.brilliant The Owl's there showing it's white roof, I must have been onboard.
  24. Oh no it's not: https://www.pbo.co.uk/news/calor-gas-u-turn-on-phasing-out-3-9kg-4-5kg-bottles-83635?fbclid=IwAR3N-FURcgQ1YDaEVNEg7wvKqvnkq5C-YCKWer7syOacRRcIgU9QaCaJLQo Still panto season.
  25. Good luck I say. Looking at the Stalham plan though, there seems to be a lot of private moorings but not as many parking spaces? Coffee/tea shops and free parking are the way to go to get bums on seats- day visitors that is. Go to any garden centre round here and there will be more people in the cafe than actually buying garden stuff. There's no money about though...
