  1. Apologies if I've mistaken a partly built boat for one having a fire. I saw a boat moored with some windows in place and others missing. The hull looked dull and grey, like smoke damaged. My mistake, but I'm pleased to understand no one came to any harm. It would be nice to know the plans/timeline for this boat by the builders........🙂 Microbe.
  2. We passed a large burned out boat (looked like one of the Richardson Bolero class) moored close to the Ferry Inn at Reedham yesterday afternoon. We did not spot it when heading out Saturday afternoon. I hope no one was hurt. Does anyone know more?
  3. Moored at the the Commissioners Cut. Another boat at the mooring has just shut the engines down at 20:17 hrs after being moored here all afternoon and starting them up at dusk. Is it just me that finds it inconsiderate, selfish and rude. I was hoping for a quiet end to the beautiful day.........🥺
  4. Good afternoon all, some final feedback about the new propeller and the choices made. Firstly thank you for all the replies and comments. I am especially grateful to Paul Richardson and also to C.Ricko for being spot on with the original fitment of the 16 x 14 LH prop. I decided to go with this choice and I am very happy with the results. After having adjusted the governor settings the boat will achieve 7mph at 1800rpm, which is more than enough for my needs and the speed limits on the water. Most importantly the boat will reach 4mph at 1000-1200rpm depending on tide and wind. The old prop (15 x 13) would manage about 3mph for the same engine speed. There is no sign of black smoke, so I do not think the engine is under excessive load. Wishing you all happy boating for the remainder of the season! Microbe
  5. Update: Thank you all for your help and advice on my enquiry. It has been a learning journey and, whilst still very much a novice, I am more informed now. Both Clements and T Norris were very helpful in providing advice. Paul Richrdson confirmed the dimensions on his hire craft as 16x14 left handed, as Meantime advised. On this basis I ordered 16x14 from T Norris and fitted it this week. The boat will return to the water shortly and I will find out what changes (if any) are noticeable from the 15x13 that was fitted previously. I'll report back in the coming weeks....... Microbe.
  6. Thank you the dimensions for the shaft match my measurements exactly. I have completed the spreadsheet for T Norris to see what is recommended, together with cost and lead in time.......
  7. Thanks Mouldy, I've just had a phone call from Paul Richardson. He is lifting one of the Horizons tomorrow and will advise what size is fitted. I believe that the current prop is left hand......, but will await Pauls update. I really appreciate all the help and responses from you all on this one!! Microbe
  8. Yep I was quietly hoping that too, but let's see!
  9. Hi All, just to keep you updated. I have revised the calculation for power from the BMC 1500 engine to a modest 20HP at 2000rpm. In another discussion with Steel Development the recommendation is a propeller of 20" x 12". Using the Vicprop website recommended by Mouldy (thanks again), the recommendation is 18" x 13". I have also spoken to George at Ludham Bridge Boatyard, who was most helpful in suggesting contacting Richardsons boatyard to ask if they will share the original design data. I have emailed Paul Richardson today and await a reply. Fingers crossed!! Microbe
  10. Thank you Mouldy, a really useful website. I will contact Steel Development again, as I suspect the calcs are distorted by my advice of the BMC power output as 35hp. Further research from the Web suggests something like 22hp at 2200rpm. This gives a smaller prop size, but similar pitch dimensions.
  11. Hello All, the propeller for my Horizon 35 has been sent off the repair last week to Steel Development. I've been contacted to discover that it is beyond repair due to electrolysis corrosion. They have advised that they can obtain a replacement which will be identical to the 15 inch (not sure of pitch) that was on the boat. I have no idea if the prop on the boat was the original. It could have been fitted as it was available (but not ideal) when replacement was needed, at some stage, over the years. When enquiring about the best option for the replacement (size and pitch) it starts to become difficult, as the calculation from Steel comes out as 22 x 13. This seems excessively large and I would need to check hull clearance. Can anyone advise what thay have fitted to the Horizons over the years and what may best suit this boat for pottering about on the Broads? Horizon 35, 35 x 12 feet, 1500 BMC diesel, Newage 2:1 gearbox. Thanks Microbe
  12. We use Rob at Sutton Staithe and are moored at Somerleyton. We have not had to use the service, but it's good to have cover in case you are stranded in an isolated or vulnerable spot. I had a sticky starter motor last year and managed to sort it out myself, but would not want to be without support from the professionals if needed. Having cover does not excuse owners from ensuring that regular servicing is performed though.
  13. Thanks all for your responses. I'll be up at Sutton Staithe at the end of the month, so I'll haunt Rob for a pump out and a top up - that's assuming the Richardson's boats have not taken all the moorings! I'm on a Horizon 35 called Summer breeze (H814 formerly Tranquil Freedom), give us a wave when you spot us. Bye for now! Microbe (Thank goodness I'm not working in NHS labs these days)
  14. Hi all, I note that the fuel prices section has not been updated for a little while. I have just received an invoice for fuel and thought I would share for you all: Norfolk Yacht Agency (Brundall) date 16/04/2021, 60/40 split diesel, £1.24 per litre. I'll be out and about from 23rd May and would appreciate knowing the experience of others. Cheers for now.
  15. I have an Easticks of Acle, falcon 26, same as your pictures. It is a different boat from the hampton. Its bigger with some advantages. I paid less than the hamptons, which are very popular and generally sell for more. Its a bmc 1.5 diesel and v drive gearbox. I bought mine without survey last year. Price will always depend on condition and time of year. Happy to discuss off-line if you share your contact details.
